1 CARDINAL CONNECTION Wednesday, April 26, 2017 EVENTS TODAY April 26th Time Versus Location Dismiss Leave Return Golf: Girls Varsity 10:30am Home Invite Alexandria GC RESULTS FROM YESTERDAY BASEBALL VARSITY Game # 1 Alexandria 12 Apollo 2 In game one Blake Anderson continued to do a good job on the mound picking up his 2nd win of the season. Blake tossed 4.2 innings giving up 2 earned runs on 5 hits. He walked 4 Apollo batters and struck out 4. Calvin Waage came in and pitched the final out in the 5th inning. Along with doing well on the mound, Blake Anderson also led the team offensively with 3 hits in 4 at bats recording 4 RBIs on the night. Behind him at the plate with 2 hits was Jake Drew. Other Cardinal hitters in game one included: Tryg Burgau, Austin Johnson, Reed Larson, Braiden Reisdorf, and Brock Anderson. Game # 2 Alexandria 10 Apollo 9 In game two we quickly jumped out to a 4-0 lead after the first inning but the Eagles were able to battle back and take advantage of some walks and couple throwing errors in route to 9 runs in the bottom of the 3rd. Trailing 4-9, we were able to chip away scoring 3 runs in the 5th, 1 run in the 6th, and 2 runs in the 7th to regain the lead. Defensively after our miscues we played well not committing another error and not giving up any more runs leading to comeback victory of Hunter Schoenrock started the game pitching 2.1 innings giving up 5 earned runs. Brady Burgau relieved Schoenrock, picking up the win, going 4.2 innings giving up 4 earned runs on 7 hits. Burgau struck out 9 Eagle batters and walked 4. Reed Larson led the way offensively recording 3 hits in 4 at bats. Multiple players had two hits with Thomas Anderson, Jake Drew, and Brock Anderson recording those. Other hitters for the Cardinals were Blake Anderson and Connor Busse with 1 hit each. Next up we travel to Avon on Friday to face Albany in a key section match up. Game time is slated for 5:00. BASEBALL JV Game one Alex 12 Apollo 0 Game two Apollo 4 Alex 2 Behind the stellar performance from Luke LeVasseur the Cards pounded the ball in a mercy rule game the bats were hot & the gloves weren t far behind w/a couple golden glove plays from SS Isaac Peterson. Game 2 the Cards ran into a good hard throwing Apollo Eagle toss in a couple E s and it is a formula for a loss. Josh Wagner was the starter and pitched in & out of trouble all night Wyatt Blahosky finished the game in relief. The Cards are now 3-3 on the season & hit the road to Albany on Friday. BASEBALL 9 TH GRADE Alexandria 12 Apollo 2 After going a week without a game, the Cardinal 9th grade baseball team traveled to Apollo Tuesday for a scheduled double-header. In cool and misty conditions the Cards defeated the Eagles 12-2 in the opener. Riley Simonson had a hot bat on a cold day as he found outfield gaps twice for doubles and added a line drive single

2 for a three hit day. Riley drove in 4 runs and had a stellar day behind the plate, allowing no stolen bases, or passed balls and picking a runner off first in 1st inning. Matthew Carlsen continued his torrid hitting with 2 hits, 2 runs and 5 rbi's. Other Cards picking up hits were Josh Ballou 2, Dominic Schmidt 2, Tate Breitkreutz 1, Blake Hoelscher 1 and Matthew Zick 1. Alexandria 2 Apollo 2 Carlsen started on the mound for Alex and picked up his second win of the year with a line of 3 IP, 0 hits, 0 runs, 0 walks and 4 K's. Andrew Revering struggled with his fastball location and gave up the Eagles only runs in the 4th. Josh Ballou finished the game striking out the side in the last inning. The win upped the Cardinal record in the CLC standings to 3-0. The second game was called after 2 innings because of the playing and mound conditions with the score knotted at 2-2. The Baby Birds return to action Friday facing Albany on the road. SOFTBALL VARSITY Alexandria 5 St. Cloud Apollo 8 Alexandria traveled to Apollo and the Eagles defeated us last night in game one of a DH. Game two was rained out. Sydney Christenson led the way with three doubles and Ellie Ronning hit her 4 th homerun of the year R H E ALEX APL X Hitting: 1B:Allison O Kane, Emma Ziegler. Ellie Ronning 2, McKenzie Revering, Kendra Hardy 2B: Ellie Ronning, Allison O'Kane, Sydney Christenson 3 HR: Ellie Ronning TB: Ellie Ronning 6, Emma Ziegler, McKenzie Revering, Allison O'Kane 3, Kendra Hardy, Calley Richardson, Sydney Christenson 6 RBI: Ellie Ronning 3, Emma Ziegler, Allison O'Kane SAC: Emma Ziegler Pitching: IP H BB K R Emma Ziegler Ally Albers SOFTBALL JV Alexandria 24 St. Cloud Apollo 15 The Alexandria JV Fastpitch team travelled to St. Cloud Apollo for a DH on Tuesday night, but were only able to get one of the games in due to a very cold rain that persisted through the final two innings of the first game, which forced cancelling the 2 nd game. The score looked more like a football game score with Alexandria coming out on top. Carly Burns got the win on the mound scattering 10 hits, 2 K s, and 12 BB with Sidney Drew and Taylor Wagner sharing time behind the plate. Freshmen Taylor Sayre went 3 for 5, along with Autumn Botz and Paige Honkomp getting multiple hits in the game. The JV record is now 3-4 on the season. GIRLS TRACK AND FIELD Girls Track and Field Captures 1 st Place at the Monticello Invite by Over 100 points. Our legs were TIRED and our performances were flat (only 16 personal bests and 2 season bests), but that is exactly how we should be feeling during this training week of our season. However, even though not many personal bests were achieved, the girls competitive instinct came alive as they pushed for top performances in every event. Last year the team won by a relatively large margin (22points). This year the team won by over

3 104 points! Once again, the girls demonstrated a POWERFUL presence on the track and in the field despite being tired from competing on Friday and from an intense week of training!
