Our opponent for this round was Battle Lake. Alexandria argued the plaintiff s side of the case during this trial and Battle Lake was the defense. Our three witnesses Paige Mackadenz, Josie Nelson, and Brennan Chase did a fabulous job of portraying their character witnesses. Our attorneys Emma Ziegler, Luke Paschka, and Sam Kuennen presented a solid case. Battle Lake had three very good witnesses and one very accomplished attorney. It was a tightly contested trial. The judges ruled in favor of the plaintiff (Alexandria) on the merits of the case. Scoring-wise, Alexandria received a score of 208 and Battle Lake a score of 197. That puts our team s record at 3-0 as we head into Round 4 of the Region 2 competition. Our next trial is on February 9 th, but we won t know who our opponent will be until January 30 th. VISUAL ARTS Abby Eck, Erika Stenvik, Eden Phillips, Olivia Swiridow, Emily Wallerich, Bryant Hargreaves, and Samantha Gilbertson from AAHS entered the MSUM Visual Arts Competition in Moorhead. This past Friday, January 20 th, MSUM held a day of workshops and awards ceremony for the students who entered. With over 20 schools participating, and over 200 artworks in the show, there was no shortage of competition. Alexandria came away with two honorable mentions from two of the eight different categories. Eden Phillips received an honorable mention for a digital self-portrait and Erika Stenvik also received an honorable mention for her multi-media project of a girl dancing, entitled St. Pepsi. Students who came to the event were able to participate in workshops ranging from film/directing to caricature drawing. REGION 8AA CENTRAL VOCAL SOLO & ENSEMBLE CONTEST Alexandria Area High School singers participated at the Region 8AA Central Vocal Solo & Ensemble Contest in Brainerd yesterday. Schools from Brainerd, Sartell, Sauk Rapids-Rice and Little Falls also participated. There were five sites, each fitted with a qualified judge (certified by the MSHSL) where vocal soloists, vocal duets, and small vocal ensembles performed for critique and "scoring" from a possible 40 points. Alexandria brought

2 19 entries: 12 scored 35 points or higher for a rating of "Superior." 5 Entries received the rating of "Excellent." Notable Alexandria performances included solos by: Henri Santelman, Rachel Meyer, & Claire Wilmesmeir; the Vocal Duet by Kitana Grimmer and Jillian Sparks (accompanied by Allison Prestby), and the Chamber Singers (our Pop Group/Carolers). Special thanks to our adult accompanists: Nathan Doege, Amy Engel, and Karen Erickson. Watch for a video feature of the event on the upcoming "Cardinal Cast." A & B Days if School is Closed We apologize for any confusion there may have been regarding A & B Days at AAHS following the snow day last Friday, November 18 th, when school was closed. Due to the fact that AAHS interacts with many business partners and we have many speakers set up to come into the classrooms, the A & B Day schedule is set and remains the same regardless of snow days. For

5 example, Monday, November 21 st was scheduled to be a B Day. AAHS was closed on Friday, November 18 th due to the snowstorm and it was an A Day. Therefore, Monday, November 21 st remained a B Day. If we have a number of snow days and they all happen to be on A Days (or all on B Days), then administration will re-evaluate and may change the AB schedule near the end of each semester to make sure students are receiving the same number of A & B Days. You will be informed if the AB schedule changes near the end of the semester. If you have any questions, please feel free to call the office at LOOKING AHEAD January 27th Time Event Location Dismiss Leave Return Basketball: Boys 9th 5:45pm Fergus Falls FFHS 4:15pm 10:00pm Basketball: Boys JV 6:00pm Fergus Falls FFHS 4:15pm 10:00pm Basketball: Boys Varsity 7:30pm Fergus Falls FFHS 4:15pm 10:00pm Dance: Varsity 7:00pm Home Quad AAHS Girls Hockey: JV 5:25pm Thief River Falls at MAC 2:30pm 3:00pm Wrestling: Varsity 7:00pm Sauk Rapids-Rice SRR HS 3:30pm 10:00pm One Act Play 7:30pm Public Performance AAHS - PAC January 28th Time Event Location Dismiss Leave Return Basketball: Boys 10th 5:45pm Bemidji AAHS Basketball: Boys 9th 5:45pm Bemidji AAHS Basketball: Boys JV 4:00pm Bemidji AAHS Basketball: Boys Varsity 7:30pm Bemidji AAHS Basketball: Girls 9th 4:00pm Bemidji AAHS Basketball: Girls JV 4:00pm Bemidji AAHS Basketball: Girls Varsity 5:45pm Bemidji AAHS Hockey: Boys JV 1:00pm Bemidji RCC Hockey: Boys Varsity 3:15pm Bemidji RCC Hockey: Girls JV 3:15pm Bemidji RCC Hockey: Girls Varsity 1:00pm Bemidji RCC Swimming: Boys Varsity TBD State TT U of M 9:15am 6:30pm Archery 9:00am Melrose Melrose HS January 31st Time Event Location Dismiss Leave Return Basketball: Girls 9th 5:45pm Fergus Falls AAHS Basketball: Girls JV 6:00pm Fergus Falls AAHS Basketball: Girls Varsity 7:30pm Fergus Falls AAHS Hockey: Girls JV 5:30pm Sartell/SRR RCC Hockey: Girls Varsity 7:15pm Sartell/SRR RCC Nordic Skiing: Varsity 2:00pm Home Invite Andes February 1st Time Event Location Dismiss Leave Return Solo Ensemble Band SRR HS February 2nd Time Event Location Dismiss Leave Return Basketball: Boys 10th 5:45pm Apollo AAHS Basketball: Boys 9th 5:45pm Apollo AAHS Basketball: Boys JV 6:00pm Apollo AAHS Basketball: Boys Varsity 7:30pm Apollo AAHS Gymnastics: Varsity 6:00pm Tech Gym Center Hockey: Boys JV 5:30pm Brainerd RCC Hockey: Boys Varsity 7:15pm Brainerd RCC Hockey: Girls JV 7:15pm Brainerd-Little Falls RCC Hockey: Girls Varsity 5:15pm Brainerd-Little Falls RCC One Act Play 4:00pm 8AA Section Final AAHS - PAC Swimming: Boys Varsity 6:00pm Willmar Willmar HS 2:30pm 3:00pm 10:00am
