Sidney Drew led the offense in scoring, getting her first goal with 12 ½ minutes remaining in the first half after making a long run with the ball and finishing from 16 yards out. In setting what is probably an unofficial team record for scoring two goals in the shortest time span, Sid knocked in her second goal 26 seconds later off a Camille Hegstad pass, from 15 yards out. Hadlee Hanson scored her first varsity goal 20 minutes into the second half on a shot from 20 yards out after receiving a pass from Sidney Drew. Camille Hegstad wrapped up the scoring 2 minutes later after receiving a pass from Sid, who was in on scoring sheet for all four goals of the evening. Defensively, the Cards held Rocori to two shots on goal with strong play by defender Abby Johnson and defensive center mid, Moly Panther. GK Saves: Alex: Sophia Vine 2 Rocori: Maggie Linz - 18 BOYS SOCCER VARSITY Alexandria 1 Rocori 2 The Cardinal Boys Soccer team travelled down I-94 for a match against a growing program in Rocori. The Cards knew this would be a tough match looking at the strength Rocori has shown thus far in the season against other teams. Yesterday s contest, was no surprise as Rocori proved to be a strong team. The Spartans were first to find the goal in the 36th minute of play, which was the only score in the first half. The second half found Rocori with another goal on a penalty kick in the 48th minute. JJ Foster was able to put the Cards on the board in the 54th minute as he dribbled fiercely down the pitch. Zach Wosepka is seeking the asset, but the film has yet to be reviewed to confirm. The Cardinals played a great match against a good team. Provided they continue to move the ball as they did yesterday, the team will continue to improve. The Cardinals Boys Varsity Soccer team is currently 3-6 overall. Their next match is Tuesday when they host St Cloud Apollo with a kick-off at 7pm. BOYS SOCCER JV Alexandria 2 Rocori 3 It was a humid afternoon as the Boys JV Soccer Team took on the Rocori Spartans. The Cardinals came out talking and communicating better than they had all season. Late in the first half, the Cards put one in the back of the net with a breakaway goal scored by Joe Gronholz. In the second half of play, the Cards lost some of the momentum they had gained with a well played first half. Defensive breakdowns and mental lapses broke down the Cards as the Spartans scored three goals within 15 minutes. The Cards did not give up however. Late in the second half, Thomas Klecker scored with a beautiful assist from Peter Sansted. It wasn t enough though as the Cards were defeated 2-3. They will play St. Cloud Apollo next Tuesday. Kaylee Svee & Taylor Sayre (A) 6-1, 6-3 The Cardinal girls tennis team ran into a buzz saw last night and were defeated by Brainerd 1-6. Brainerd showed us why they are unbeaten on the season and with the exception of our second doubles team they ran through our lineup relatively easy. We moved our lineup around a bit because of an injury to Brianna Holm so all our singles players had to move up a slot and we added Megan Van Gaal to the fourth singles spot. Brianna & Joria picked up the lone point at second doubles with aggressive play and a solid game plan. I felt the girls fought hard and gave it a good effort, but Brainerd is simply a very good team and solid up and down their lineup. We fall to 7-4 overall, and 3-2 in the CLC. On this great, fast course at the Little Falls 53rd Annual Luck Lindy Course, our boys and girls ran strong despite the warm conditions and ran away with 33 season best times. Some of the girls biggest season bests were Emma Ecker 52 sec Personal Record, Gracie Uhde 127 second Personal Record. Rachel Kumorowicz and Grace Panther both had over 95 sec. improvement.
