MMHS Eagle HighFLIGHTS: 3-7-16 *CTE Teacher of the Year: We would like to congratulate one of our FACS teachers, Kathryn Crandall, who was awarded the Utah Association Career and Technology Education (UACTE) Teacher of the Year from the Work-based Learning division at the UACTE Conference held Feb. 5-6 in St. George. Mrs. Crandall earned this award because of the work she is doing with students in her Early Childhood Education classes. She trains them to write lesson plans, work at Maple Mountain s preschool, and intern at other preschools. Mrs. Crandall wears many hats at our school. In addition to her childhood development classes, she teaches sewing, and family and consumer science, and is the school s department chair over the career and technical education (CTE) program. Mrs. Crandall shares, When I found out high school students could earn their Child Development Associate (CDA), I became very excited to implement and support students in their endeavors to become certified while still in high school. I jumped right onto the new curriculum by collaborating with other teachers, including kindergarten teachers to see what my students would need to be prepared to teach preschool. Now, under her tutelage, Crandall s students can earn their CDA, by completing 450 hours of work-based learning and teaching in the preschool class. The students create a collection of their lesson plans and notes from class, keep tracking sheets from working, and then must pass the CDA test. Many of my students are preparing to teach preschool, Head Start or to become an elementary school teacher. Several students are interested in the pediatric medical field and are taking this course to further their education with their career plans, Crandall said. We are so excited Mrs. Crandall is a teacher at our school! Way to go Mrs. Crandall! Congratulations! MMHS Information: (Mar 7 Mar 26) *For more school information, please go to our school website at: https://mmhs.nebo.edu Follow Maple Mountain High School on Facebook for school news updates! For those enrolled, we will start at 7:00 PM in the MMHS media center. This is the parent meeting. Students are required to attend and it is strongly recommended that at least one parent come. The Maple Mountain High School Drill Team will be holding a dance workshop on Monday, March 14 - Wednesday, March 16, 2016 from 3:30-5:30 p.m. in the MMHS dance studio. On Wednesday, the workshop will be from 2-4 p.m. The workshop is for girls in 8th - 12th grade that are interested in learning more about dance and also for those girls interested in trying out for the drill team. Cost for the full workshop is $15 or you can pay $5 per day if you can only attend one day. Register on the first day of the workshop or the day that you attend. The Ellevés will present their "Pre Tour Show" on Tuesday, March 15 at 7 p.m. in the MMHS Auditorium. Come see the show the drill team will be performing in Florida. Cost is $2 *SPRING SPORTS TRYOUTS: If you are trying out for a spring sport you must have a current physical and a profile on registermyathlete.com. Once those two things are done you may pick up a "Cleared for Tryout" permission slip from Margaret Raine in the counseling office. If you are unsure if your physical is current please see our athletic trainer Krista Prusak for verification. *MMHS Theatre Department: Students of the Maple Mountain Theatre Department are putting the finishing touches on the MMHS Winter Play, Twelve Angry Jurors. This play is the stage version of the classic film 12 Angry Men. The story focuses on a jury room as the 12 individuals debate the guilt of a young man on trial for the murder of his father. The deliberations reveal the biases and prejudices of the jury members who start out wanting a quick guilty verdict. A lone juror suggests that the responsibility of those in the room is to look beyond their first impressions to see if they can uncover the truth. As they debate, the audience is asked to place themselves in the jurors' shoes and consider where they stand. Acting and tech students have been working on this piece since early January. The cast includes Ben Gleason, Hannah Wood, Ondine Morgan, Adam Gowers, Marguerite Morgan, Jaren Wood, Nicole James, Cassandra Smith, Emma Garlitz, Corbin Radford, Shay Swenson, Jasmine Johnson, and Ryan Hawkins. The play will perform for four nights: Thursday, March 3; Friday, March 4; Saturday, March 5; and Monday, March 7. Performances begin at 7:00 PM, and the cost is $5 for students and $6 for adults.

Twelve Angry Jurors will be performed in an intimate space - all seating will be on the auditorium stage surrounding a 468 square foot jury room. We want to audience to truly feel a part of the world of the play. As *Mr. Maple Mountain DVD: If you'd like to relive the magic of the 2016 Mr. Maple Mountain competition that was held on January 27th, DVD's are on sale for $5. The money goes toward the Video Production and TV Broadcasting programs. A sign-up sheet is posted outside of Miss McMurdie's room (F101) but e-mailing her at lindsey.mcmurdie@nebo.edu will get you on the list as well! Pay the finance office and bring your receipt to Miss McMurdie to pick up your DVD. *Senior Pictures: We will not be offering senior pictures through our photographer this year. Bell Photography, who takes our school pictures and did our senior pictures last year, did not have enough seniors interested in getting their pictures taken last year, and therefore won't be offering that option this year. Bell Photography indicated that in visiting with parents, they found that with all of the nice cameras people have access to now, even on their cell phones, most parents did not want to pay the money for professional pictures. *GRADUATION INFORMATION: Josten s will be at our school on Tuesday, March 15 th from lunch until after school to deliver pre-ordered graduation announcements and to take orders. Students who still need to order can go to http://www.jostens.com/apps/store/customer/1856004/maple-mountain-high-school/ or call 1-800-JOSTENS. Students can also order the day Josten s is at our school. Extra custom school announcements will be available for $1.25 each. *MMHS Battle of the Bands: The MMHS "Battle of the Bands" will be held on Thursday, March 17th at 7 pm. Get your group together now! Registration materials are available at the front office and are due by March 11th. There is a $5 entry fee. (Information flyer included at the end of this e-mail!) *MMHS PTSA: Hello Parents! So many great things are happening this month.
