Rules 1.1 Races will be governed by the Racing Rules of Sailing,the prescriptions of the sail Canada Notice of Race ( except where changed by these instructions) and by these sailing instructions. CHANGES TO SAILING INSTRUCTIONS: Any change to sailing instructions will; be posted before 0930 on the day it will take effect. The only exception will be any change in the schedule will be posted by 2000hrs on the day before it will take effect. 4. SIGNALS MADE ASHORE. 4.1 Signals made ashore will be displayed on the BYC flagpole. 4.2 When the flag AP is displayed ashore, 1 MINUTE is placed with not less than 30 minutes for the lowering of AP for spinnaker and cruising classes and not less than 15 minutes for prams/429 s/laser classes. 4.3 Flag L with one sound signal, means a notice to competitors has been posted on the official notice board.
5. Schedule 4.4 Flag B will be flown with one sound signal when the last competitor for the day finishes. Competitors will have one hour to file protests. They will race for separate prizes. Gold and Silver fleets for Prams/Optis will depend upon numbers. Each fleet must have a minimum of 8 boats. A minimum of three races will be sailed. If four races are sailed one will be dropped. Gold and silver assignment will be based on results through Wed. One drop race. Gold and Silver fleet racing will be on Thursday and Friday. If four or more races there will be one drop race. Yacht presentations will be the same day in the upper lounge.
MARVIN HARVEY AWARDS: 1. Junior award. Committee decision based on performance, sportsmanship and participation. 2. Yacht Award. Spinnaker class. Best 4 out of 5 from the results for the week. If 4 or less races completed all will count. This will be determined by the Cox Sprague Scoring system. SILVER DART 100 TH ANNIVERSARY INTERCLUB COMPETITION TROPHY Each clubs best daily finishes for yachts ( spinnaker class ), 420 and pram ( or Opti ) will be recorded. SEABIRDS: There will be 3-4 Seabirds. Each boat will have a crew of 3 people. Each day there will be six to eight crews competing. They will be assigned to FLEET 1 or FLEET 2. It will be white sail only. Interested competitors will register to sail. Skippers will be assigned to a boat. Crews will be assigned by the race committee. We ENCOURAGE novice racers to participate. Racing will be a round robin. Boats will be rotated for each race. FLEET 1 : THREE RACES FLEET 2 : THREE RACES BOATS FINISHING 5/6/7 8 ( FROM 2 FLEETS ) WILL RACE COSOLATION ROUND OF THREE RACES. BOATS FINISHING 1/2/3/4 ( FROM THE 2 FLEETS ) WILL RACE CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND OF THREE RACES. FOURTH PLACE WILL BE DETERMINED ON POINTS. IF THERE IS A TIE THIRD PLACE WILL BE DETERMINED BY A COIN TOSS. 7.1: Spinnaker class : All courses will be a windward leeward course. There will be three windward legs. Please see the attached course designs. Course number will be displayed from the committee boat by the preparatory signal. 7.2:Cruising class : There will be one less windward / leeward leg than the spinnaker class. See the attached course outline. 7.3 : THURSDAY COURSE : RACE ONE : PREMIER CLASS COURSE. START AND FINISH ON THE WATER. RACE TWO : WILL START ON THE WATERR IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING RACE 1.COURSE CARD WILL BE DISPLAYED BEFORE START. FINISH WILL BE OUTLINED IN FINISH ( SEE 12.0) 7.4 : Prams/Optis : please see attached course cards 7.5 : 420 /Lasers : See attached course cards. 7.6 : Seabirds : see attached course cards. 8. MARKS 8.1 Spinnaker class : All marks will be yellow tetrahedron shapes. 8.2 Cruising class : All marks will be yellow tetrahedron shapes. 8.3 Prams/Optis : Marks will be green shapes 8.4 420 /Lasers : All marks will be green shapes and orange balls. 8.5 Seabirds : Marks will be announced on day of racing. 9. OBSTRUCTIONS: 9.1Entrance into Baddeck harbor between the west end of Kidston Island and the mainland, while racing, is prohibited 9.2 YACHTS ; ON LEAVING FOR THE START OF THEIR RACE ; MUST KEEP THE BRAS D OR YACHT CLUB MOORINGS TO STARBOARD AND THE YELLOW TETRAHEDRON OFF THE LIGHTHOUSE TO STARBOARD AND AVOID ENTERING THE DINGHY RACING AREA. NON RACING YACHTS ENTERING THE DINGHY RACING AREA WILL BE GIVEN A WARNING THE FIRST TIME AND A DSQ FOR THE SECOND INFRACTION. RACING YACHTS WHO ENTER THE DINGHY RACE COURSE MUST HONOR THE RULES OF SAILING. 10. THE START :
10.1: Spinnaker : The starting line is between the Race Committee Flagstaff and a mark on the opposite end. 10.2 : Cruising : as 10.1 10.3 : Prams/Lasers Seabirds : The starting line will be between the flagstaff displayed on the committee boat and the port end of the line. 10.4 : Races will start in accordance with rule 26 with a warning signal being given 1 minute before the preparatory signal. 10.5 : Rule 30.1, the one minute rule will apply and is altered such that flag 1 will not be displayed. 10.6 : Rule 30.1 will apply to YACHTS ONLY. 11. CHANGE THE NEXT LEG OF COURSE 11.1: To change the next leg of the course, the race committee will move the Original mark ( or the finish line ) to a new position or set a new mark, Removing the old mark as soon as possible. 11.2 : Shortened course will be signaled near the mark at which the race is to The finish boat will display code flag S and will make two sound signals Boats are to finish be flag S on the finish boat. 12. THE FINISH 12.1 : ALL YACHTS WILL FINISH BETWEEN A YELLOW TETRAHEDRON OFF OF THE LIGHTHOUSE AND THE FLAG POLE ON THE RACE DECK. 12.2 : All dinghy classes will finish in front of the clubhouse between a Yellow tetrahedron and the club flagpole. 12.3 : Seabirds will finish on the water on the same line as the start line. 13. HANDICAP Yachts will be using PHrf handicaps as per Sail Nova Scotia. All yacht are responsible for obtaining their handicap from Sail Nova Scotia. 14.PENALTY SYSTEM 14.1: RRS 44.1, 44.2 AND 44.3 WILL BE IN EFFECT.
15. TIME LIMITS 15.1: Time limits for all yachts will be 4 hrs for the first boat. All other boats must finish within 1.5 hrs of the first boat. 15.2: Time limit for The Gardner Hubbard Bell Trophy will be 5 hours. All other boats must finish within 2 hours of the first boat. 16. PROTESTS 17. SCORING 16.1 : Protest forms are available in the race office. Protests will be Delivered to the race deck within the protest time. 16.2 : Protest time limit is as noted in sailing instruction 4.4 16.3 : Notices will be posted within 30 minutes of the protest time limit to inform competitors of hearing times. 16.4 : Notices of protest by the race committee or jury will be posted to Inform boats under rule 16.1 (B). 16.5 : Decision of the jury will be final as outlined in rule 70.4 17.1 : The Low point scoring system will apply, RRS appendix A2, A4. 17.2 : Marvin Harvey Award, yachts : Best 4 out of five races. If less than Five races sailed all will count. 17.3 : Prams/Optis : When 4 or more races are completed, total score minus worst finish. If less than 4 races all count. 17.4 : Laser / 420 : See 17.3 17.5 : Silver Dart 100 th Anniversary. Interclub competition. The scores of each representative yacht will be added together. The club whose yachts receive the lowest score will win. There will be no drop race. Prams / Optis will be scored using the Cox Sprague system. Spinnaker class will be scored using the Cox Sprague system. 18. SAFETY REGULATIONS 18.1: All competitors must check in before competing in race.
Prams/ Optis /420/Laser : check in with on shore race deck. Yachts will check in as they pass the stern of the race committee on starboard tack. 18.2 : A boat that retires from the race shall notify the race committee as soon as possible. 18.3 : All dingy sailors must wear a lifejacket. 19. RADIO COMMUNICATION 20. INSURANCE 21. DISCLAIMER 19.1 : A boat shall not make radio transmission while racing unless It is an emergency situation. This restriction applies to cell Phone communication. 19.2 :The race committee will monitor channel 68. Each participating yacht shall be insured with valid third party Liability insurance with minimum cover of $ 1 000 000. Competitors competing in the regatta do so at their own risk. See rule 4, Decision to race. The organizing authority will not accept liability for Material damage or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction or prior to, during or after the regatta.
