Community Outreach Overview On Sunday, October 7, the Bank of America Chicago Marathon will welcome 45,000 registered runners to the City of Chicago to travel through the streets of Chicago. Each year, the Chicago Marathon proudly invites the participants, volunteers and spectators to celebrate one of the world s largest marathons and one of the five World Marathon Majors. The Event starts and finishes in Grant Park and travels 26.2 miles through the downtown streets as well as neighborhoods north, west, and south of downtown. We are grateful to the many residents, organizations, churches, synagogues and businesses of your Ward who come out and inspire the runners from all fifty states and over 100 countries as they strive to achieve their personal goals. In order to prepare and alert the residents, organizations, churches and businesses of your Ward, we will be distributing a number of materials including Street Closure Brochures and Car Flyers. These materials are attached to this overview. We invite you and your residents to join us in celebrating the 2012 Bank of America Chicago Marathon on Sunday, October 7, 2012.

Bank of America Chicago Marathon Community Outreach and Course Notice Schedule Date September 10, 2012 Description Chicago Marathon street closure web site launch (detailed street closure information) www.chicagomarathon.com/streetclosures Week of September 10 September 13 September 23 and 30 Mailing of Street Closure brochures and hand distribution of brochure to City organizations, churches and synagogues, hotels, and neighborhood partners (12,000 total pieces)(copy of Street Closure brochure attached). Street Closure information included in Chicago Marathon e-newsletter (distribution of over 100,000 email addresses). Course notification flyer distribution: notification placed on windshields of each car parked on course and secondary streets (over 70,000 pieces)(copy of Course Flyer attached)

Bank of America Chicago Marathon Street Closure Outreach Summary Below is a summary of actions taken by the Event to communicate race day street closures: Street Closure Web Page Created web page with detailed street closure information on the Chicago Marathon web site (www.chicagomarathon.com/streetclosures). Received over 31,000 page views to the street closure web page in October 2011. Visitors to this page viewed it for an average of 2 minutes and 30 seconds. Street Closure Brochure (attached) Distribution of over 12,000 four-page brochures containing: o Course Map o expressway ramp closures o available race day routes o vehicle removal information o detailed graphic of runner and wheeler arrival times o detailed street closure times including anticipated closure time and anticipated opening time o link to the street closure web page at www.chicagomarathon.com where the brochure may be downloaded/printed o phone number of the Marathon office for further questions on street closures or any other race related matter o mailed approximately 9,500 to our contacts and organizations in the city (week of September 10) o distributed approximately 2,500 brochures by hand throughout the city Car Flyers (attached) Printed over 70,000 half-page flyers detailing street closures o Flyers contained a course map and text detailing street closures o Created a Spanish language version to be distributed in predominantly Spanishspeaking neighborhoods o Distributed flyers on car windshields along the course and side streets adjoining the course on the morning of the two Sundays prior to the Event (September 23 and 30).

Copy of letter sent with Street Closure brochure to Property Managers, Businesses, Churches, and Organizations: September 13, 2012 Greetings Neighbor: The Bank of America Chicago Marathon will pass through your neighborhood on Sunday, October 7, 2012 as 45,000 participants traverse the 26.2-mile course. As in previous years, we have been working with the Chicago Police Department, Aldermen, and neighborhood organizations to inform residents of street closures and traffic restrictions. In an effort to keep you as well as your staff, tenants, customers, friends, surrounding businesses and residents informed about the Event, we have enclosed a 2012 Chicago Marathon Street Closure Brochure. This Brochure contains the (1) Event Course Map, (2) Street Closure and Openings, and (3) Available Race Day Routes. We encourage you to make mention (e.g. through an email, website, bulletin, etc.) and to help distribute the Brochure to your staff, tenants, customers, friends, surrounding businesses, and residents as well as any other organization that may be affected by the course closures. For e-mail distribution or further street closure information, please visit www.chicagomarathon.com/streetclosures. For additional hard copies or to update your contact information, contact the Chicago Marathon office at 312.992.6626 or send an e-mail to office@chicagomarathon.com. In order to further alert the community of the street closures, we will also be distributing over 70,000 Flyers on cars along the Event Course on each of the following days: Sunday, September 23 and Sunday, September 30.
