CELEBRATING 20 YEARS OF SINGLES GOLF IN AMERICA Shenandoah Chapter - American Singles Golf Association - November 2012 From the President Golf is slowing down for the 2012 season, however we have lots of socializing to do over the next 3-4 months. A few golf trips further south and a Turkey Shoot at Forest greens November 17. Thursday Night Trivia and TopGolf has been going good. Would be nice to see more members come out and enjoy the fun. Our membership has been steady at 20 members with members coming and going. We all need to help recruit new members to build our chapter. The more members we have, the more opportunities for new ideas, new board members and more cash flow to do more activities. We will be starting our 4 th year as a chapter in 2013. Let s all pitch in to help grow our chapter and reach 50 members. Looking to have 3 weekend getaways for next year and get more of our chapter involved in some of the National Golf trips. ~Paul Gorodnick Golf Chair October 6 Bull Run Golf Club, 3 rd Anniversary Golf Outing. Nice turnout of 20 golfers dressed in their idea of Red shirts. We split up into 5 teams of 4 players with fairly equal handicaps. We set up 10 prize holes of 4 par 3 s for each of the men and women who played along with 2 longest putts made on #9 & #18. Though the weatherman did tell us the temps would be closer to mid 70 s than lower 60 s we played on. We started off with a 3 hole putting contest on the putting greens with 4 prizes donated by Top- Golf of Alexandria. For the women, Diane Eyssartier took honors with a score of 10. For the men top honors went to Dean Palmer with a 5, including a hole-n-one on the 2 nd hole which measured out to about 24. Jim Kelly and Jerry Fleming rounded out the top 4 winners with a score of 6. Soon after the putting contest our teams hit the tee boxes and off we went. Our format was a Shamble for the day which included using each team members tee shot 2 times during the 18 hole round. I heard that one team waited until the 18 th tee box to get in the last shot. Though all the scores were low, the eventual championship team was decided by a scorecard playoff and the winners were, with a score of 151, Tony Paduano, Jerry Flemming, Debra Howe & Nate Fernandez. Well done. Our individual Hole Prize winners are as follows. Hole #3 Men- Kyle Tani 5 Women No winner Hole #6 Men Bob Arnold 15 Women Ginna Reep 13 Hole #9 Longest Putt Suzanne Cale 31 Great Putt!! Hole #11 Men Dean Palmer 38 Women Diane Eyssartier 41 Hole #16 Men Erich Zimny 15 Women No Winner Hole #18 Longest Putt Kyle Tani 12 After golf most of us headed over to Bertucci s in Gainesville to collect our prizes, have a few drinks and some dinner. Thanks to everyone who came out and played. Look forward to even a bigger turnout next year. ~Paul Gorodnick Upcoming Events Include (see SinglesGolf.com/events) New Year's in Florida - - January 2-5, 2013. It was our first night and a few of us bought game cards and have established handicaps for future competitions. The food, and drinks were well supplied to the group. Not sure being on the lower level was a good thing on this night. The group upstairs kept dropping items on us. No one was injured and all had a great time. October 11 Trivia Night Uno s Reston, Virginia, We had 4 members show up and with our clever minds prevailed over 9-10 other teams and came in 2 nd place. ASGA members Paul G, Jerry Fleming and Debra H. had plenty of good trivia in them to help contribute. Others attending were Paul O Connor. We won gift certificates for our next trivia night. October 18 TopGolf in Alexandria, Virginia, Small outing of just 4 members this night. The weather had called for rain but it turned out to be a nice warm October evening. We did have a little competition in a 2 game match. Our big winner for the night was Susan A. She had just enough handicap to put her past Paul and Bob. Diana was there cheering the 3 of them on. October 25 Trivia Night Uno s Reston, Virginia, Another GREAT performance by "Dude, Where's My Par? Deb Howe, Paul O' Connell and "the Guy NOT named Paul", Jerry Fleming the veterans, were joined by rookies, Brenda Rossi & Suzanne Cale. We went into the bonus round in 4th, just 4 pts out of 1st place.. and BET the whole shebang... and missed this question to fall out of contention: From high to low put in order, # of NRA members in the US, number of Shia muslims in the world, gross earnings for Lord of the Rings, & population of NC.. go ahead, take a guess.. NO cheating!! ~Debra Howe Next Meeting November 14, 2012 Velocity5 in Centreville, VA 7:00pm cocktails, 7:30pm meeting, followed by more cocktails.
