Dancers may compete only once per choreography event e.g. one Duet, one group. In the case of injury or illness a substitute dancer of same age (who is not competing in the same event) may dance. Group Choreography Events - Please list all dancers names, their category, their ages and birth dates on a separate sheet. Choreography Rules SOBHD 2018 C & R Pg 48 for details. Teachers must enter their group choreographies, list all dancers and their ages along with one cheque. Group Choreography: $11.00 Per Dancer Per Event Conduct: Dancers, Teachers and Parents are expected to show proper decorum and manners before, during and after performances and especially during presentation of awards. Please no high-pitched yelling or screaming. Teachers are reminded of the SDC and BATD Professional Code of Conduct. Complaints must be received in writing on the day of the Festival accompanied by a fee of $25.00. The decision of the Festival Committee is final. Rules of the B.A.T.D. Festival are for general guidance and may be changed at the Festival Committee s discretion at any time. Age Groups: Age is as of day of performance. Dancers birth date must be on the entry form. Age groups will be determined according to the number of entries received. Groups may be combined if numbers warrant. Adjudication And Awards Awards will be given to 6 places in all sections and presented on stage. Beginners will receive a stamp on their registration cards for medals awarded 1 st, 2 nd, 3 rd in Highland Dances Only. Novice & Intermediate will receive a stamp on their registration cards for medals awarded 1 st, 2 nd, 3 rd in Highland & National dances. Dancers will dance two/three at a time. The adjudicator's comments are recorded on an individual critique sheet, which is put in your Dance Teacher s File. Boys: Dark dance style shorts with neat fitting t-shirt, knee socks, and highland slippers BIOGRAPHIES Sandra Weyman, United States Sandra began her dancing with Australian champion, Shirley Ayres. A successful competitive career with numerous championship wins was completed with Marguerite Reid of Philadelphia. Sandra is a Fellow and Examiner with the BATD and is the FUSTA Board of Trustees. Past President of FUSTA, she has served on many committees including the FYSTA executive board, Advisory Board, Scholarship and Nominating committees. She has been chairman of the east region Judges Network and BATD Atlantic Seaboard. Her dance school includes champions and dancers who have consistently been USIR Reps. She enjoys her students' successes but is most gratified with those who work hard to be 'their best' and use what they gain from dancing to become successful in their lives. She co-authored "Raising the Barre" using knowledge gained from 35 years as a kindergarten teacher; the book applies development readiness and levels to dance training. She is honored to have judged at Cowal, several SDCCS including Calgary 2018 and Championships in Australia. Kate De Good, United States Over the last 20 years, Kate s competitive dancing career has brought worldwide championship success in every age category. A many times finalist in the World Highland Dancing Championship (competition), Kate also holds over 100 major championship titles throughout the United States, Canada, Scotland, and Australia. Kate is a Fellow of the BATD and SDTA, Chairperson of the BATD Great Lakes Region, Coordinator of the North American BATD New Professionals Forum and is an S.O.B.H.D. Judge. A member of FUSTA, where she has served on the Choreography Committee, Kate teaches and directs Highland Dance in Michigan at both Alma College and the Kate DeGood School of Dance. She leads the Kiltie Dance Company, and her studio includes Champion dancers who have qualified and placed at USIR and North American Championships. Kate also judges, lectures, and performs internationally. Janice Macdonald, Ontario Janice has balanced a full-time career in industrial sales with a diverse background in fitness training. She is a Certified Personal Trainer, Nutritional and Wellness Specialist, Cycling Spin Class and TRX Suspension Training instructor. Janice s passion for fitness led her to become certified in the Y s group fitness programs which she teaches regularly. She is currently developing a unique TRX/Pilates program that blends core strength and stretching with TRX suspension resistance. An accomplished Ironman distance triathlete, cyclist and marathon runner, Janice has completed numerous races and frequently finishes in the top ten. Janice grew up surrounded by bagpipes and highland dancing and has worked in the past with highland dancers to bring awareness to the critical need for a strong core and lengthened postures in order to excel at dance.
