Most students will be in one of the two shows, while competitive groups will perform in both. A detailed schedule including your child s assigned show time will be distributed in the next few weeks. If you have two or more family members in separate classes, you may request at the front desk that they be in the same show. We cannot promise this, but will always try to accommodate you. Costuming arrangements will be taken care of by your instructor. We do our best to keep costs as low as possible; please be prepared to pay anywhere from $10-$30 for your child s costume. Tickets to the shows go on sale at the front desk on Thursday, November 1st. We have found the fairest way to place seats is through a lottery process, which means we will randomly draw ticket order forms and place them in the seating chart accordingly. Those who place their orders by November 16th will be able to pick up their tickets at the front desk when we return from Thanksgiving break. Tickets are $15 apiece for guests and $5 for performers, if they wish to watch the half of the show they are not performing in. Little ones may sit on laps for no charge. Tickets can still be ordered after November 16th and will be placed in the remaining seats. Plans are already in the make for our 2019 SPRING PRODUCTION/RECITAL WILL YOUR FAMILY BE PART OF THE EXCITEMENT? In considering this decision, we like to be sure Studio families are thoroughly informed of all details. When it comes to costumes, dancers will receive one per dance class. Cost for each costume is $95, which is broken up into two separate payments. Your costume deposit of $50 will be due with Session II s tuition. The balance of $45 will be due with Session III s tuition. Costumes are non-refundable. Actors and actresses wishing to participate in this year s Production can expect to make payment for their costumes in January, after the casting of the Production. A picture of your child s dance costume will be shown in class around March. Costumes will be distributed in class throughout the months of March and April, before the dancer s photo date, which will also take place in the spring. We start preparing for the recital during Session II. This year s recital will be held on May 18th & 19th at The Jane Tasch Theater in Pinckney, Michigan. Dancers taking recreation dance classes will participate in just one of the shows on one of these dates. Dudes & Dolls and Sweet Petites will perform in 2 shows on May 18th. Company will perform on both May 18th & 19th in 2-3 shows total. When turning in Session II s registration, please be sure to indicate whether or not your child will be participating in our Production/Recital. We must know in order to measure him or her for a costume. Any questions you have can be answered by your instructor or at our front desk. We look forward to sharing in our big Production/Recital with you this spring!! The winner of The Studio s 2018-19 Competitive Dance Scholarship is the talented Miss Nina Ashkanani! Nina received the highest score of The Studio s competitive dance auditions leading her to receive this honor. The scholarship is given to a dancer who studies all main subjects at the competitive level, including jazz, contemporary, hip hop and ballet. Nina started dancing at The Studio when she was 5 years old. She is a veteran of the Company Team and is known around The Studio as our hip hop queen. Nina is very popular amongst her teammates, and in her spare time likes to hang out with her friends. It gives us great pleasure to recognize Nina!

These are all important, but here are nine less obvious ways you can help your dancer be successful: 1. Check in regularly. Ask your dancer questions what are their successes and struggles in class or how do they plan to solve or rise to the challenges presented in class? It s important to do more listening then talking. 2. Encourage your child to compete with themselves. Rivalry stays healthy if your dancer s fellow dancers inspire your dancer to do their best. Show that you care about great performing and personal improvement and that it s not about outshining someone else. 3. Your dancer will struggle to overcome a plateau or disappointment now and then. Remind them when challenges arise, the best way to approach the situation is to work harder. Hard work does no come without results. 4. Trust your teachers and coaches. Rely on instructor feedback to help your dancer realistically define their weaknesses and strengths. 5. Encourage your dancer to work at home on routines and technical aspects like splits and stretching. 6. Model positive behavior. Appreciate others performances and offer congratulations. Do not speak negatively of other dancers. Treating people with respect and pointing out the positive in others helps your child recognize excellence in themselves.
