Relief Activities CULTURE Kenya s coast is rich with culture and heritage. It is a place where Arabs and Africans lived together and created a new culture, unique only to the coast province of Kenya. Taking time to explore the historical sites and mix with the people in this facsinating and beautiful part of Kenya is a must! We explore the ancient Gedi ruins or the monumental Fort Jesus that served as the main hub for trading goods, a prison for slaves, and most importantly protecting the Portuguese from conflicts with locals and threatening foreign battalions. SHOPPING We speak with the fisherman, who s livelyhood depends on the ocean we use for our enjoyment and buy fresh fish caught hours before. Sushi anyone? Or wander the colourful market places that lie scattered along the beach. COMMUNITY Take time to meet the children from local schools, get involved by teaching English, playing sport with the kids or simply sharing stories from your life which the kids will find truelly fascinating. RVA aslo runs its Schools for Communities program down here at the coast, where through the raising of funds we spend time building classrooms and painting or repairing buildings for the children. RELAX At the end of each day there really is no better way to relax than wiggling your toes into the beach sand and toasting marshmellows over the fire under the incredible African stars.
