Mrs Senior
Well done to our Tag Rugby teams, who took part in a recent competition held at Maesydre fields. Both teams performed really well, scoring some excellent tries. Our A team managed to make it through to the knockout stages, beaten by one point in their final game.
Foundation Phase pupils have been keeping busy with their mud salad projects, selecting, listing and mixing different ingredient amounts, then practising buying and selling with money at the outdoor area till. To consolidate this learning they recently took a visit to Tesco, Welshpool. Armed with fruit and veg shopping lists they found the items, took photos of them, sketched them and finally bought them, some at the self-service check outs.
Just before half term PC Gayle Jones visited school to discuss keeping safe topics with each class. Offa and Hafren looked at keeping safe, especially with regard to medicines; Coed Coch looked at the dangers of smoking; Elystan looked at the dangers of drugs and substance misuse. PC Jones will be a regular visitor to our school via her role as part of the All Wales School Liaison Programme more information can be found at SchoolBeat.org.
Well done to all for their contributions to our recent Harvest Festival. After an opening flute recital, Harvest songs were sung, Foundation Phase pupils were all dressed up for their presentations, Coed Coch shared their thoughts and sketches on the season and Elystan shared their class autumnal poetry. Thanks to Clive Gee for his musical support. During the event Friends of Leighton School raised money towards school funds, with a cake stall raising over 50 for wales Air Ambulance.
Well done to our Urdd, mixed boy/girl, footballers who took part in a tournament at Llanfair Caereinon High School. Despite some late morning sunshine it was a cold, damp start and keeping warm between games was the main challenge! Our team came away with a couple of defeats to Trewern, and, against the run of play, to Llanfair; finally drawing their last game against Rhiw Bechan. On October 23 rd the school turned red, donating 1 each, to show our support for the anti-racism educational charity Show Racism The Red Card. The charity aims to combat racism through enabling role models, who are predominately, but not exclusively, footballers, to present an anti-racist message to young people and others. In total over 50 was raised. Our recent Sponsored Dribble event now stands at over 75 raised towards the refugee crisis. Green Team collect the most house points and earn themselves a swimming treat!
