From the President Meet Me At The Beach is just days away. For those who are joining us in Ocean City, we will have a great time, starting with Bryan Clark s Vegas Show on Wednesday, and throughout the weekend of dance classes and open dancing. MMATB to me is a sign that spring is almost here and the cold weather is almost gone. Thank you to all who have been supportive as I walk around like a deer in headlights. One of the many things that make this club so special is the support of the membership for each other. You can go to many other locations to dance, but the DC Hand Dance Club is about more than preserving our style of dance, it s about caring about each other. Some who don t know us may say we have cliques; what we have are groups who have become very good friends. Yet, we still welcome new people who see how much we enjoy not just the dancing but each other s company. The first dance at the Knights of Columbus in Bowie was successful regardless of the cold temperatures. The atmosphere inside was warm, so your Board of Directors has scheduled this location for monthly dances through July. The dates will be on the website soon. Plans are still ongoing for future activities, as they develop emails will go out sharing the various ideas with the membership. See You On The Dance Floor! I am happy to report that in this issue of our newsletter I found two wonderful members who have gladly offered me this opportunity to learn more of their personal lives. I knew that I had a good candidate with Ed Warren when he first told me that he was the perfect male. He was housebroken and did not eat much. I knew from that moment that I was going to like Ed. What a delight! Ed urged me to write the spotlight on his significant other, Dottie Frazier, because he said that she is much more interesting than I. I think that the both of them are very interesting people and a delight to know. I think that most will agree with me. Both Ed and Dottie are native Marylanders with both being born in the city of Baltimore. Ed graduated from Andover High School and the University of Maryland. Dottie graduated from the all-girls high school, Western High and later earned her degree from Towson College (now University). Both married others in early life and produced families of which they are very proud. Ed worked in the automotive field for over fifty years. He did everything from sales and marketing to teaching others about automotive maintenance equipment. Dottie spent her teaching years in the field of special education. This very fact of her choice of teaching in the special education field says myriads about of love of people and her character. Having a child with special needs gives this writer a special insight into this wonderful and loving person. To spend a career teaching and helping students with special needs takes a person with a very loving heart. Dottie fits that personification to a tee!ed was previously married and has a daughter and two grandchildren. Dottie was also previously married and has three children and seven grandchildren. While Dottie has been dancing since the age of twelve, it took Ed a little longer to learn the joys of dancing. Dottie tells me that her sister got her interested in dancing the jitterbug as a youngster. She later became interested in our hand dance and country dancing. Ed tells me that a friend got him interested in hand dancing in 2005 when he suggested that they attend a hand dance in the local area. This opened a whole new world for Ed where he now finds himself attending a hand dance activity sometime seven days a week. It also opened the door for him to meet his special Valentine Dottie at a hand dance event. This is another case where our dance has brought two wonderful people together. What a blessing! Our hand dance club gives us the opportunity to meet other people whom we would not get the opportunity to meet in our daily lives. Ed Warren and Dottie Frazier are two such people who met on the dance floor and this writer is very happy to know them and to call them friends. If you do not know them, please introduce yourself to them. You will be glad that you did! 5 2016 / March-April Newsletter

Dancing with the feet is one thing, but dancing with the heart is another. ~Author Unknown Food for Thought Subject: Stress and tension A group of friends visited their old university professor. Conversation soon turned to complaints about 'STRESS' & 'TENSION' in Life. Professor offered them Coffee & returned from kitchen with Coffee in different kinds of cups Glass Cups, Crystal Cups, Shining Ones, Some Plain Looking, Some Ordinary & Some Expensive Ones. When all of them had a Cup in Hand, the professor said: "If you noticed all the Nice Looking & Expensive Cups are taken up, leaving-behind the ordinary ones. Every one of you wanted The Best CUPS, & that is the source of your STRESS & TEN- SION. What you really wanted was "Coffee", not the "Cup", but you still went for the Best Cup. If Life is Coffee, then Jobs, Money, Status & Love etc. are the Cups. They are just TOOLS to hold and contain Life. Please, Don't Let the CUPS Drive you. Enjoy the COFFEE. Heard on Paul Harvey years ago: With Spring coming, you may have mosquito problems! Mosquito Yard Spray 1 Big bottle of cheap blue mouthwash 3 cups of Epsom Salt 3 stale 12 oz. cheap beer Mix together until salt is dissolved. Then spray anywhere you sit outside. Mosquitoes will be gone from that area for approximately 80 days! Mosquitoes and Bugs hate this but it has a nice minty smell! Guess Who? PLEASE Consider Becoming a Club Guess Who It s EASY! If you would like to be guessed in our Newsletter s Guess Who column, send a copy of a photo of yourself at a young age, along with your response to the following questions: 1) where you were born; 2) where you grew up; and 3) where you danced in your youth and/or early adult years. Mail it all to Linda Trader at: 103 Coronet Drive, Linthicum Heights, MD 21090. If technology is your thing, scan & attach your photo and email it all to Linda at: lin_trader@yahoo.com. If technology is not your thing, call Linda at 443-226-3331 she can help! I have had some people come up to me and say they would like to put their name in but I haven t received any emails. If you like, you can give it to me at any dance. While driving down a country road, a traveler saw a farmer standing in the middle of a huge field. He pulled over, walked out to the farmer and asked, Excuse me, but what are you doing? The farmer said, Trying to win a Nobel Prize. How? the man asked, puzzled. Well, I heard they give the Nobel Prize to people who are out standing the their field. Q. How many dance instructors does it take to change a light bulb? A.
