Southwest Soapbox By Tom Brown Zone 8 Representative I have a favor to ask of you. If you know who the 2009 Zone 8 Enthusiast of the Year was, would you please let me know? I m embarrassed to say there aren t any zone records of the winner (and it was only 3 years ago!). If it was you, a friend of yours, someone from your region, or if you just happen to remember, please let me know. The award was presented at the January 2010 Zone 8 Banquet. If you can give me some idea of who it was, I d much appreciate it; it will help me in my attempt to pull together our zone history. By the time you read this, the first round review period for the Zone 8 Rules proposals for 2013 will be over. The zone staff will be meeting shortly and spending a day discussing them. Last I looked it was over 80 pages of material, so we definitely have our work cut out for us. Once we are finished, the results of our deliberation will be posted for the second round of rule review, which should be open roughly from October first through November fifteenth. Be sure to check them out and send in your feedback. I ll send out an email to the zone to remind you. A couple of big events are coming up on the calendar that I want to highlight. The weekend of September 22 & 23, San Diego Region is hosting a PCA Hospitality and Corral at the Coronado Speed Festival. All PCA members are invited to stop by and visit while enjoying the races. Stay tuned for more information about how to get your parking pass to place our car in the corral (Porsches only!) Big news for November! I m very happy to announce that San Diego Region has added a Club Race to their previously scheduled Time Trial the weekend of November 3 & 4. At the tail end of November, be sure to make room on your calendar to attend the PCA member private preview at the LA Autoshow. PCNA will once again be allowing us to get a jump start on seeing the latest and greatest vehicles for 2013. And that same weekend, on December 1 st and 2 nd, PCA will be bringing our national Tech Tactics program back to the PCNA facility in Ontario. The ultimate tech session, this program puts you together with members of the PCA Tech Committee and the highly trained Porsche mechanics (and maybe a VIP or two from Stuttgart) for a weekend of Q&A and lecture on all things technical about your favorite car, your Porsche! Registration info will be available as we get closer. Save the date and make a weekend of it! Enough of the future, let s look back a few weeks. Parade was phenomenal! Salt Lake City was a terrific host city and everybody had tons of fun. Susan Brown and her committee did an outstanding job and they have a lot to be proud of. It was a terrific show! By the way, as is normal, the location for the Parade two years from now was announced on the last night, and the 2014 Parade will be in: Monterey! A west coast Parade! Plan for it as it is sure to be another outstanding event. (And don t forget, next year will be Traverse City, Michigan.)

Zone 8 brought home plenty of trophies from Parade this year, so please congratulate the winners the next time you see them. I ve tried to list them; I apologize if I missed anybody. (From looking at the published results, it isn t always clear how deep they issued trophies, and some of the classes are pretty big.) Parade Award Winners: Family of the Year First of all I d like to make special mention of the Scheussler family. Bob and Lisa Scheussler along with Kris, Becky, Karin, and Bekah and Lorri and Morgan Trotter, from the Orange Coast Region are the 2012 Porsche Family of the Year!
