Supplementary Sailing Instructions 1. Rules Races will be governed by: The Racing Rules of Sailing The Notice of Race and Sailing Instructions of the YWA Offshore Handbook 2017-2018 These Supplementary Sailing Instructions In the event of conflict, these Supplementary Sailing Instructions shall prevail. NOTE: IRC compliance and safety checks will be conducted randomly throughout the regatta. 2. Notices to Competitors Notices to competitors will be posted on the FSC Sailing Notice Board located in the Main Clubhouse foyer. 3. Changes to Sailing Instructions Any change to Sailing Instructions will be posted not less than 90 minutes before the scheduled start time of the first affected race, except that any change to the schedule of races will be posted by 1800 on the day before it will take effect. These changes may be broadcast over the radio prior to the start and/or communicated by email. 4. Signals Made Ashore Signals made ashore will be displayed on the FSC flag mast on the lawn at the rear of the Main Clubhouse. 5. Class Flags Division 1 Naval Numeral One (1) Division 2 Naval Numeral Two (2) Double-Handed Naval Numeral Four (4) 6. Fleet Allocation 6.1 Allocation of boats to each division will be conducted after the close of entries and advised to each entrant prior to the event. Allocation will not be subject to protest or request for redress. 6.2 The minimum number of entrants to constitute a fleet will be four yachts. If fewer yachts enter, the yachts will be included in another fleet. 7. Start Times 7.1 On Saturdays 23 June, 7 July, 21 July and 4 August 2018, with all fleets sailing passage races, warning signal times will be as follows: Double-Handed 0925 Division 2 0935 Division 1 0945
7.2 On Sundays 24 June, 8 July and 22 July (resail, if required) 2018, with the Double-Handed fleet sailing passage races and Divisions 1 & 2 sailing windward-leeward races, first warning signal times will be as follows: Double-Handed 0925 Division 2 0930 Division 1 0935 7.3 Warning signals for subsequent windward-leeward races will be signalled by the Race Officer, with starts at five minute intervals in the order Division 2 then Division 1. 7.4 No Warning Signal will be made after 1400 hours. 7.5 There is no racing on Sundays 24 June, 8 July or 22 July 2018 for yachts entered only for the Valmadre Cup series. 7.6 If a re-sail is required, the start times from the day being re-sailed will apply. 8. Radio Communications 8.1 Race Communications will be conducted on VHF Channel 72. 8.2 The FSC Radio Room operating as Offshore Race Control will open at 0830 hours on race days for compulsory radio checks on VHF Channel 72. 8.3 Position reports (Sailing Instruction 17.4) will not be conducted. Boats are required to comply with sailing instruction 17.3 by maintaining a listening watch on VHF Channels 72 & 16 and may be contacted by the race committee to determine the progress of the race. A boat failing to respond to such a request may be penalised by the Race Committee without a Hearing. This changes RRS 63.1. 8.4 In Passage Races, boats shall report to Offshore Race Control when rounding the last mark prior to the Harbour Entrance Buoys. 9. Committee Signal Boat The committee signal boat will be one of the FSC start boats, either Success or Max Shean. 10. Courses 10.1 Passage race courses will be those detailed on page 57 of the 2017/18 Offshore Handbook. 10.2 Windward-leeward courses will be as detailed in Appendix A. 11. Marks Passage Races 11.1 The start port end marker buoy will be a yellow inflatable cylinder buoy. 11.2 The Day Buoy will be a yellow inflatable cylinder buoy, located between 0.8 & 1.2 nautical miles to windward of the start line EXCEPT THAT for Double-Handed passage races on days when windward-leeward races are being conducted for other fleets, the Day Buoy will be a red inflatable buoy. 11.3 The Day Buoy will be Passing Mark. This changes SI 6.6. 12. Marks Windward-Leeward Races 12.1 The marks for windward-leeward races will be as described in Appendix A. 12.2 The starting and finishing marks will be a committee signal boat at one end and a yellow inflatable cylinder buoy at the other end.
13. The Start 13.1 The starting line will be between a staff displaying an orange flag on the committee signal boat at the starboard end and the start port end marker buoy. 14. General Recall When a general recall is signaled, the warning signal for the first recalled fleet will be displayed at the start signal for the last fleet in the sequence. Warning signals for other recalled fleets will follow in order thereafter. The General Recall signal for a recalled fleet will be displayed for one minute. This changes RRS 29.2. 15. Protest Mediation and Protests Protest forms are available at the Sailing Notice Board in the FSC Main Clubhouse. Protests and requests for redress or reopening shall be delivered to the Race Office or handed to the Rear Commodore Sail within the protest time limit which is 90 minutes after the last boat of that division has finished the last race of the day. This changes SI 15. 16. Presentation 16.1 Daily announcement of results and presentation of pennants and prizes will be held at FSC no earlier than one hour after the last yacht finishes. 16.2 The announcement of results & presentation of trophies for the Valmadre Cup Series & Champions Trophy will be held at FSC on Saturday 4 August 2018, no earlier than one hour after the last yacht finishes. 17. Scoring 17.1 For the Valmadre Cup Series, a minimum of two races shall constitute a series. If four races are completed, a yacht s worst score will be excluded. If three or fewer races are completed, all scores shall be included. 17.2 For the Champions Trophy, for Divisions 1 & 2, a minimum of five races shall constitute a series. If seven or more races are completed, a yacht s worst score will be excluded. If six or fewer races are completed, all scores shall be included. 17.3 For the Champions Trophy, for Double-Handed Division, a minimum of three races shall constitute a series. If four or more races are completed, a yacht s worst score will be excluded. If three or fewer races are completed, all scores shall be included. 17.4 This changes RRS A2. 18. Pennants, Prizes & Trophies 18.1 Pennants will be awarded for each race: Valmadre Cup Series: YAH 1 st, 2 nd, 3 rd & Fastest in each division IRC 1 st, 2 nd & 3 rd in each division Champions Trophy: IRC 1 st, 2 nd & 3 rd in each division Boat of the Day prizes will also be awarded to the yacht with the best IRC results of each day.
18.2 Trophies will be awarded for: Valmadre Cup Series: The Valmadre Cup - YAH Series Winner in each division The Valmadre Cup - IRC Series Winner in each division Champions Trophy: IRC Winner in each division Other trophies and prizes may also be awarded. 19. Hospitality FSC will be open for takeaway food and drinks (but not alcoholic beverages) from 0730 on race days. Competitors are invited to use the club s bar and dining facilities following racing. 20. Disclaimer of Liability Competitors participate in the regattas entirely at their own risk. See RRS 4 Decision to Race. The organising authority its associates and appointees will not accept any liability for material damage or personal injury or death or inconvenience sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during, or after the Series. By participating in these Series, each competitor agrees to release the race organisers from any and all liability associated with such competitor s participation in this event to the fullest extent permitted by law.
Courses Division 1 Division 2 APPENDIX A WINDWARD / LEEWARD COURSES Start-W1-O1-GS or GP-W1-O1-Finish Start-W2-O2-GS or GP-W2-O2-Finish Marks Marks W1, GP and GS are yellow cylinder buoys. Mark W2 is a red cylindrical buoy. Marks O1 & O2 are orange pimple buoys. Range and bearing of windward mark for each course to be advised prior to the start of each race on VHF. Finish Line The finish line will be between the staff on the committee signal boat at the port end and a Black and White checkered buoy at the starboard end.
