W Bowen ELCOME TO OUR 2015 GOLF SEASON Island Golf this year starts with our opening day on Thursday, April 9 and ends on September 24 with a scramble and luncheon party. That gives us 25 weeks of playing together! Every Thursday we have a different game format that is fun and friendly. Our league emphasizes that golf is for everyone of every level. We try to mix up our members so high and low handicappers play together and learn from and support each other. Please read through this on-line Fixtures Book that Pat Adams put together for us. It is chockfull of useful information such as our calendar of events, game descriptions, how to post handicaps to our website and much much more. Your hard working executive has created a fun-filled program and we look forward to spending time with all of you on the course and across the lunch table. Let the games begin! Susan Alexander 2015 WOMEN S LEAGUE EXECUTIVE ROSTER CAPTAIN Susan Alexander 604-916-2247 susanalex@shaw.ca VICE CAPTAIN Jane Kellett 604-947-0771 jkellett@shaw.ca TREASURER/PINSHEET Sheila McArthur 604-947-0444 shemac95@shaw.ca TEAM3 ZONE 4 Wendy Bower 604-947-9648 wjbower@telus.net IN HOUSE MATCH PLAY Kathy Clarke 778-847-3723 kathyclarke60@gmail.com GLENEAGLES TOURNAMENT to be announced HOUSE COMMITTEE Gael Booth 604-947-9787 gaelbooth@gmail.com Kathy Leishman 604-947-0605 kathleenleishman@gmail.com

WOMEN S LEAGUE INFORMATION The cost to join is $75.00/season, which will cover the cost of the tournament prizes and a wrap-up luncheon and awards presentation. begins every Thursday morning with a shotgun start at 9 am. Please arrive at the course as close to 8:30 am as possible to allow time to hear our weekly messages and get to your tee box. We ask that each week you SIGN UP by TUESDAY EVENING with susanalex@shaw.ca or jkellett@shaw.ca. FIXTURE BOOK 2015 2 Foursomes will be made up in advance to facilitate a speedy start to the game. We all play from the red tees. If you are playing a back nine, don t forget to let the pro shop know, so that a tee time can be booked for you. Please post your scores as the handicaps will be pulled Thursday mornings before play If you find you are able to play on a Thursday, but you have not signed up, we will do our best to accommodate you, but as this adds to our workload, please do not do this on a regular basis. We want to ensure everyone gets to know each other and has a chance to play with different members, so we will intentionally try to mix up the draw every week and have varied handicaps in the foursomes. This speeds up play and teaches new golfers rules, etc. If you do not have a handicap, you will be assigned the maximum handicap of 40. During pin sheet days the draw (foursomes) will be arranged by similar handicaps. Minimum of 10 games golfed with the is required to qualify to play in the 2015 Championship in September. BEFORE GAME Look at the the events calendar to see which game is being played. Check the day s draw in the Captain s book to note your starting hole. Sign up for next week. Check in with others of your foursome. Pick up a scorecard. If it is a pin sheet day, trade cards with someone in your foursome. You will keep their score as well as your own. Before you head to your hole, please listen to ANNOUNCEMENTS at 8:45 this will include a description of the day s game and upcoming events for the league. THURSDAY PROCEDURE AFTER GAME Calculate your score according to the game rules. Give your scorecard to a member of the executive and write down your game score beside your name on the draw sheet. On pin sheet days, please have your scorecard attested - that is signed and dated by one of your foursome. Give your scorecard to Sheila McArthur. Please update your eclectic score. Write down any Birdies, Chip-ins, or first time breaking 60 or 50 and have them attested. Sign up for next week. Stay for lunch. Consider a back nine. At the club or at home, please go to the RCGA website and put in your day s score to update your handicap.

SPEED OF PLAY FIXTURE BOOK 2015 3 Speed of play is the time it takes a player to complete a round of golf. A proper pace for a 9 hole round of golf on our golf course is about 2 hours and 15 minutes. Speed up your play by: Picking your appropriate club and be ready to play when it s your turn. Staying within one shot of the group in front of you. Being aware of your groups playing time and position on the course. Playing Ready Golf hit when ready and safe, continue putting until holed out, and limit searching for lost balls to 3 minutes. Parking your cart or bag closest to the next hole before you begin putting so you don t have to circle back. GIMMIE PUTTS We implement the gimmie putt procedure to help with the speed of play. Your putter should be marked with tape to indicate the gimmie distance. You can pick up your ball if it is within that distance and take one stroke. Please note: There are no gimmie putts on pin sheet days. RCGA HANDICAP Most of our events use a handicap in order for players of all levels to have the opportunity to win the various games. All handicaps must be official, as established by the Royal Canadian Golf Association (RCGA). Bowen Island Golf Club members receive an RCGA Handicap Card, which confirms their membership in the provincial and national RCGA/BCGA organization. (This card is also required when participating in tournaments at clubs other than BIGC and must be signed by Captain or Vice Captain). If you are not a member, you can get a handicap by joining BCGA online at www. bcga.org. Keeping Your Score on the RCGA Website When you enter your score, there is a maximum number of strokes allowed per hole depending on your handicap. This is called Equitable Stroke Control. See the chart below. Course Handicap Maximum Score 0 9 double bogey 10 19 7 20 29 8 30 39 9 40 or more 10

FIXTURE BOOK 2015 4 WHAT IS YOUR FACTOR? Don t confuse your factor with your handicap. Because golf courses all vary according to level of difficulty, your handicap may be higher or lower on various courses, so the golf associations around the world have developed a rating or factor system. You post your scores and, based on the slope and rating of the course, the website calculates your factor. It is displayed in a box on the right hand side of the page and is expressed in decimal points eg 28.3. If you want to know your handicap you click on the link below the factor box that says: what is my handicap, and it will tell you your handicap for any course that you play. STROKE PLAY A form of competitive play in which the score is calculated by counting the total number of strokes taken over the 9 holes. The total (or gross) score minus the player s handicap provides the NET score. In most competitions the lowest net score determines the winner. This enables players of different skill levels to compete together. MATCH PLAY A form of play in which the score is calculated by counting holes won rather than total strokes taken. Handicap strokes are given by the lower handicap player to the higher, on a hole-by-hole basis, as they apply. A winner is determined for each hole; and the overall winner is the player with the greatest number of holes won in the round. TAKE CARE OF OUR COURSE Repair ball marks on the greens and replace and press down any divots through the green. Avoid damaging the course and tee boxes when taking practice swings. Rake after leaving the bunker and leave rakes outside the bunkers. Keep power carts on cart paths, entering the fairways at 90 degrees only at times when ground conditions permit. The Pro Shop will advise when carts must remain on cart paths. Keep pull carts outside the perimeters of the tee boxes, greens and greenside bunkers. Respect all Environmentally Sensitive Areas which are identified by fences and signs. Golfers are not to enter these areas. Please use the seed and sand containers to fill your divots and those of your fellow players.

FIXTURE BOOK 2015 PIN SHEET The RCGA and the BCGA sponsor stroke play net competitions called Pin Round Awards. The competition is a provincial and national tournament, and these games support women s golf in BC. Our club plays 6 pin sheet rounds per season. The player and runner up in every club who has the lowest 4 rounds of the 6 wins a PIN. Three awards are given out by each organization each year. INTERCLUB CHALLENGE WITH GLENEAGLES This is a 9-hole tournament with a luncheon afterward very friendly and all levels of skill are welcome. The dates are: June 8 (home) July 6 (away) BCGA ZONE 4 INTERCLUB MATCHPLAY If you wish to participate in these match play games you must commit to one home game and one away game. You pay for one player for the home games, plus lunch, and they pay for you on the away games. All matches are 18 holes. Wendy Bower is our interclub match play coordinator (and your contact), if you are interested in Team Play. The schedule for 2015 is as follows: June 9 Sunshine Coast (away) July 7 Mylora (home) July 28 Langara (away) Aug 25 Kings Links (home) BCGA TOURNAMENTS It is important to support the BCGA events, as without their members golfing, we would not have a Zone 4 league. Consult their website for current information, entry forms etc. Also, check the bulletin board for information of upcoming events. BC GOLF - Women s Golf - Zone 4: http://bcgazone4.org/women/wevents.html

Prizes Day SCHEDULE OF PLAY AND DESCRIPTION OF EVENTS 2015 is scheduled for every Thursday morning with a shotgun start at 9 am. Please arrive at the course as close to 8:30 am as possible to allow time to hear our weekly messages, learn about the day s game and get to your tee box. Please make sure your scores are entered because handicaps will be pulled Thursday mornings before play. Once again, there will be points awarded for closest to the line (CL) on Hole 3 and closest to the pin (KP) on Hole 6 each week. This year, as well as playing the scheduled event as outlined, we will be holding a Deuce Pot on the first game of each month. April 9 OPENING DAY SCRAMBLE/BEST BALL Arrive 8:15 am 9 am Shotgun Start Coffee and muffins will be provided. * Deuce Pot Best Ball The team chooses at least two drives from each player. When a drive is selected, all players move their ball to that location and play their own ball. The player whose drive is selected does not hit the next shot. Continue until the green is reached, at which point all players putt. Hand in score card for the team. April 16 MOST DRIVES ON THE FAIRWAY/LONGEST DRIVE ON HOLE 3 Most Drives on Fairway April 23 April 30 Count the drives that stayed on the fairway on par 4 and par 5 holes. Player with the most drives on these fairways wins. Also, there will be a longest drive competition on Hole 3. PUTTS ONLY Lowest number of putts wins; count only putts on the green, not chip-ons. PINK BALL FIXTURE BOOK 2015 Each team is given a pink ball. Each person in the group plays a hole with the pink ball. Repeat the order until the round is finished or the pink ball is lost. Record the net score of the pink ball on a separate scorecard. If more than one team finishes with their pink ball, then the team with the lowest net (pink ball card) is the winner. If all pink balls are lost, then the team who played the most holes with their pink ball is the winner.

FIXTURE BOOK 2015 7 SCHEDULE OF PLAY AND DESCRIPTION OF EVENTS 2015 May 7 May 14 May 21 May 28 June 4 June 11 June 18 June 25 July 2 BEST NET ON PAR 3s Best NET score on the par 3s wins. MOST ONE PUTTS Count only ONE putts from on the green. BINGO BANGO BONGO Individual scores are kept as usual. Points per hole are awarded to the first player to reach the green (Bingo!), closest to the pin (Bango!), and to the first player to putt out (Bongo!) (Strictly observe who is away on all shots and alternate who drives first on par 3s. The day s winner will be the player with the most points.) BEST NET ON ODD HOLES Best NET score on odd numbered holes wins. * Deuce Pot TOMBSTONE Stayin Alive that s the point! Each player is given a Tombstone, which has her name and total of par plus her handicap written on it (her limit). When she has reached her limit of strokes she is is deemed to have become deceased. She records the hole started on (born) and the hole she died on. Bring the tombstone back to the clubhouse. The idea is to play below your handicap and return at the end of play, alive and well. HIDDEN HOLES After the game, 5 holes are drawn. Total your NET for those holes. The Lowest NET score wins. CAPTAIN VS. VICE CAPTAIN TEAM PLAY Players will be colour coded on the 1st tee, identifying their team as Captain or Vice Captain and will play a match play: Player #1 vs. Player #2, and Player #3 vs. Player #4. Match winner, scores 1 point for her team; a tie scores 0.5 point. The winning team will be determined by the final tally of points earned. BEST NET EVEN HOLES Best NET score on even numbered holes wins. BRING A FRIEND /BUY A MULLIGAN Every one is encouraged to bring a friend to play our course. This is to further our objective of promoting our course to the golfing public and encouraging women to join. Friends will be required to pay green fees if not members of BIGC.
