Race 1 RACING.COM 3YO MAIDEN PLATE - 1200 metres: Written Guarantee Trainer Pat Carey advised that it was the stables intention for the gelding to be ridden off the pace today, mid-field. Ridden towards the rear of the field. Held up passing the 300 metres before gaining clear running approaching the 50 metres. Believing Jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.
Sunstryke Raced wide without cover. Passing the 300 metres shifted out and then had to be steadied off the heels of Believing, which was also shifting in at this point. Mr Charisma Near the 350 metres had to be steadied when attempting a narrow run between Believing and Sunstryke, which shifted out slightly. Choice Approach Had to be steadied off the heels of Hangin Tough, which shifted out abruptly approaching the 350 metres. Madame Schultz When making ground, momentarily held up passing the 200 metres before shifting out to obtain a clear run. Seven Love Rider Damien Lane could offer no explanation for the poor performance. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any obvious abnormality other than losing the off fore plate and a swab sample was taken for analysis. Stewards will follow up with co-trainers Matthew Ellerton and Simon Zahra regarding Seven Love. Lena River A post race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be lame on the left fore. A veterinary clearance is required prior to racing again. Mitochondria Rider Arron Lynch was severely reprimanded for breaching the provisions of AR137(A)(5)(a)(ii) in that he used his whip on seven occasions prior to the 100 metres. Race 2 SCHWEPPES MAIDEN PLATE - 2000 metres: Junior Assassin Slow to begin. Had to be steadied off the heels of Supaconi near the 1500 metres. Golden Gee Slow to begin. Supaconi Jumped away awkwardly, shifted in and made heavy contact with Pull The Ripcord, resulting in rider Noel Callow becoming unbalanced and for this reason raced further back. Pull The Ripcord Made contact with Supaconi at the start. Time To Sail Rider Andrew Mallyon stated that he elected to allow his mount to stride as he was caught wide in the early stages. A post race veterinary examination revealed a slow than normal recovery. Bolshoi Belle Got its head up when over racing in the early stages. Miss Remington Stewards accepted the explanation offered by Glen Boss regarding him being unable to fulfil his engagement to ride the mare and having to be replaced. Rider Damian Lane could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance. A post race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be showing signs of colic.
Race 3 XXXX GOLD MAIDEN PLATE - 1600 metres: River Fox Late scratching at 4.25pm by order of Stewards due to not arriving on course by the prescribed time. Trainer Mark Webb was fined the sum of $300. AR117(2) Smokin Hoaks Slow to begin. Zasorceress (NZ) Slow to begin. Belsbro Over raced in the early and middle stages. Raced wide without cover. Checked near the 1300 metres. Rider Jamie R Bayliss was fined $200 for breaching the provisions of AR137(A)(5)(a)(ii) in that he used his whip on eight occasions prior to the 100 metres. Mr Churchhill Raced wide without cover. Speedcubing When the pace slackened near the 800 metres, commenced to over race and had to be steadied off the heels of Cavalier Kid. Heza Magic Man - When the pace slackened near the 800 metres, commenced to over race and had to be steadied off the heels of the heels of King Of Siam (NZ). Sugar Hill Landing Held up near the 400 metres before gaining clear running near the 200 metres. Fiano Rider Luke Currie reported that the filly may not have been suited by the slow tempo in the middle stages and consequently did not finish off the race as expected. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any obvious abnormality. Rider Chris Symons (Mr Churchill) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provision of AR137(a). The careless riding being that he permitted his mount to shift in abruptly near the 1300 metres when not clear of Belsbro resulting in Belsbro having to be checked. Chris Symons had his licence to ride in races suspended for a total of ten meetings to commence midnight 25 February, 2016 and to expire after the day meeting 4 March, 2016 (3 metro, 7 provincial). In assessing penalty Stewards were of the view that the incident qualified for the mid-range category of carelessness and took into account his guilty plea and excellent record. Race 4 NIGHT RACING LAUNCH 7 APRIL MAIDEN PLATE - 1200 metres: Hell Of A Mess On arrival at the barriers was re-saddled. Reared as the start was effected and lost considerable ground (3L). Rock Away Clipped the heels of Film Star Look and almost dislodged rider, Daniel Stackhouse, near the 900 metres when racing tight between that mare, which got its head up and shifted out and 1Apache Shadow, which shifted in and away from Time Commands. As Stewards could not attribute blame to any one rider they notified all riders to exercise care when in similar circumstances. A post race veterinary examination revealed a small laceration to the off fore.
Bellwhist Rider Jake Noonan reported the gelding would be better suited over a longer journey. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any obvious abnormality. Cantation Lost the near fore plate during the event. Race 5 BET 365 F&M BM70 HANDICAP - 1200 metres: Simes Girl - Rider Stephen Baster reported the mare felt lame. A post race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be lame on the near fore. A veterinary clearance is required prior to Simes Girl racing again. Race 6 STABLES PLUS PTY LTD BM70 HANDICAP - 1400 metres: East Afrika Stewards accepted the explanation offered by Rhys McLeod with regard to being replaced as the rider of the mare after he contacted Stewards on Wednesday 24 February, 2016. Neona Late scratching at 4.28pm. Unable to arrive on course by the prescribed time due to traffic congestion. Found My Way Jumped away awkwardly, shifted out and inconvenienced Monteux. Sharing Rider Billy Egan was reminded of his obligations to break his whip action up and allow his mount to respond over the final 100 metres. Congress Hampered near the 1200 metres due to Our Elliott (NZ) getting its head in the air when over racing and shifting out. The Bandit (JPN) When questioned in relation to the tactics adopted today; in particular his riding in the straight, Thomas Sadler stated that The Bandit (JPN) was first up after arriving in the stables from Japan and his recent trials and track-work indicated that the horse had shown no early pace and for this reason he settled towards the rear of the field. He further explained that after riding his mount along with vigour in the early part of the straight, he attempted to balance The Bandit and ride it along hands and heels over the concluding stages. Stewards notified Thomas Sadler that they were concerned with his lack of vigour in the final 200 metres and that he must ensure that he rides all of his mounts to the best of his ability to the end of the race wherever possible. Cavitation - A post race veterinary examination revealed the horse to be sore behind. Stewards will follow up with trainer John Moloney regarding Cavitation.
