That Thriving Social Scene! cononued over the Christmas period and now, well into the New Year there have been mulople rides (and not all of the MTB variety). HearOly fostered by friends on facebook via the South Coast Pedalers (check this group out if you haven t already), the social scene is strong. A Christmas Ride was a blast with some 20 riders leisurely busong out 80+km of fire road, single track and some bitumen on an epic Husky big day out. Cabbage Tree lane also featured (and soll features) highly with regular Friday night frolics for all the family. A great intro to anyone new to Mountain biking well worth genng along too. Tippos Social Saturday arvo rides also cononue with rides going wherever the group on the days decides again lots of laughs and heaps of fun. Snot Cake rides (why this name?). We think these started as a wet track ride opoon (yes it s on the bitumen) when the SCUM trails took a hammering. These rides are great fun; any type of bike will do, MTB, Cyclo Cross, Roadie, or Dragster (onya Tippo). Riders meet in Bomaderry and head to Berry for a coffee @ the bakery and yes some Snot Cake some riders even meet them along the way from Gerringong See the South Coast Pedalers page or the SCUM Website, Forum and facebook for more details. Here s some pics from the various rides & locales. Lewy & Simon must really like getting wet the Pallet bridge at Cabbage Tree lane came in handy for this ride. The Not So Fine Print: Par8cipants of Social Rides do so at their own risk. SCUM recommends that riders consider insurance coverage for any cycling mishaps and advise riders they can join MTBA* or Bicycle NSW. Both organisa8ons provide riders with 24/7 cover, including Personal Accident; Public Liability & Loss of Income benefits. *MTBA cover is preferred as it includes SCUM Club Membership & covers riders for races; Bicycle NSW does not. More Social Scene pics! Some of the mythical creatures spotted along Back Forest Road Berry (above) and below an inquisitive peacock (or peahen) along Agars Lane near David Berry Hospital, getting ready for some Snot Cake. Snot Cake - that s where the name came from. Dig & Ride days Trail Crew Update! Trail Work days are usually the 2 nd Sunday of every month (check the Web / facebook page for details). The first for 2016 is Sunday Feb 14; yes we know it s valentines day, but what better way to spend some quality time with your partner J If you re keen to help maintain the clubs trails, build new ones etc. then bring your gloves, a shovel, rake or mattock to one of the trail days coordinated by Tony (The Trail Guru) Conroy. Please remember that All Trail Work needs to be coordinated & sanctioned by the Trail Crew coordinator so that we meet our Forestry Obligations. Newsletter Contributions are Welcome!
