JRMS students must be dismissed at 2pm so we may avoid bus traffic. Parents must write a note dismissing their child early from school. JGS students will be released at 2:45pm so we may avoid bus traffic. JPRD staff will take attendance at the school and then again once everyone is seated on the bus. Absent from School/Program If your child will be absent from the program, notify the Jaffrey Parks and Recreation Department no later than 11am the day of the program at 603-532-6873 or email recreation@townofjaffrey.com. Lift tickets are printed before we arrive and once printed, they are considered used and no refunds will be given for absent participants. Don t miss out! Call JPRD before 11am for all absences! Equipment Equipment must be dropped off at school with your child or delivered to the Jaffrey Parks and Recreation Department, 31 Howard Hill Road, Jaffrey, NH between 8:00 am and 1:00 pm. Equipment may go with participants to school and will be stored near the office at the Jaffrey Grade School. Jaffrey Rindge Middle School students will be directed by the school as to where to store their equipment. Helmets are highly recommended, but are not required. We also recommend ski bags or ski totes along with boot bags or boot straps. Equipment is easier to move when it is tied together. Ski/board bags also prevent equipment from becoming scratched, which is very possible, when loaded in the bus. We recommend clearly marking your equipment with your last name so it is easily identifiable. Ski or board locks are recommended. They are not required, but items have been stolen from the mountain before. The Jaffrey Parks and Recreation Department is not responsible for any lost or stolen items or equipment.

Rentals If you are using rental equipment, Crotched Mountain staff will need to know your child s height and weight. Height and weight is used by the rental shop to adjust the ski/snowboard equipment. This process may be slower during the first week as the equipment does not always fit right on the first try and there will be a lot of people. Please be patient. After the first week, Crotched Mountain will set-up your rental equipment before we arrive and will have your name on it. Arrival at Crotched Mountain On Tuesdays, JRMS-Bus 1 will arrive at the base lodge at approximately 2:45pm and JGS-Bus 2 will arrive at the base lodge at approximately 3:30pm. The bus will park in front of the lodge to unload participants and equipment. Participants are to pick-up their equipment and proceed to the lodge. A chaperone will stay with participants and take them into the lodge while the vehicle is being parked. Participants are responsible for their own belongings. Inside the lodge, there are lockers available to store personal items. Lockers cost between $0.75 and $1.50 EACH TIME you open them. You do not have to use a locker, but if you do not, there will be no one watching your items, so there is a possibility of it being stolen. The Jaffrey Parks and Recreation Department is not responsible for any lost or stolen items, or for any items left at Crotched Mountain. Lift tickets will be handed out in the lodge. Participants are to put their lift ticket on their jacket they will be wearing on the mountain. If you lose your lift ticket, it will not be replaced. If possible, put lift tickets on a pocket zipper to prevent it from flapping in your face while skiing. If you are a season pass holder, you will be responsible for your season pass unless other arrangements have been made with the JPRD staff. After you have your lift ticket and ski clothes on, participants will go through the rental shop if rentals were purchased. Finally, participants will be directed to the lesson area which is right outside of the rental shop door. Lessons All level of lessons will meet right outside the rental shop. The ski/snowboard instructors will call you for the correct level of lesson you are taking. Participants on JRMS Bus 1: lessons will start at 3:00pm and end at 4pm. Participants may ski/ride until 5:00pm. At 5pm all participants are to go to the lodge. Participants on JGS Bus 2: lessons will start at 4:00pm and end at 5pm. After the lessons, all participants are to go to the lodge for dinner. Dinner All participants must meet in the lodge at 5:00 pm on Tuesdays to check in. Participants must check-in with the indoor chaperone upon arriving at the lodge for dinner and check-out with the indoor chaperone before they leave the lodge. We recommend bringing a packed dinner with you. You may purchase dinner at the lodge, if you choose to do so please plan accordingly. A burger, fries and a drink will likely cost more than $15.

Behavior Respectful behavior is expected behavior. Noise must be kept at a low level in the bus. There is no eating or drinking on the bus. Electronics are not allowed on the bus or at the mountain. Participants are expected to follow the directions of the JPRD staff and to check-in at the announced check-in times. Misbehaving will result in disciplinary action up-to and including the loss of skiing privileges without a refund. Participants are expected to follow the rules established by Crotched Mountain and ski patrol. If we are notified by Crotched Mountain staff that a participant is causing problems, parents may be called to pickup their child immediately from the Crotched Mountain, and disciplinary action will be taken up-to and including removal from the program without a refund. Skiing Policies Nobody may ski alone! This is very important in case someone becomes injured. Participants in 1 st through 3 rd grade and will be divided into groups based upon skiing/riding ability and assigned a chaperone. Participants must stay with their chaperone. Participants are expected to remember their chaperone s name and also what he/she is wearing. If a participant get lost or need assistance they will need to know this information. Participants in 4 th through 12 th grade, who show competent skiing ability, may ski with a peer group. You must stay with your group. If you and your group members have different ability levels, then the faster skier must be careful to stay with the slower buddy. We do not want to see you separate from their group, but if this happens, wait at the bottom of the run for all the members of the group. If you do not have all your members, go in and notify the indoor chaperone. They will then notify the ski patrol. Chaperones If parents are interested in chaperoning for this program please e-mail Parks and Recreation Director, Renee Sangermano at rsangermano@townofjaffrey.com. Chaperones ski for free! Emergencies As a general rule, be aware of how you are feeling. Most skiing injuries happen toward the end of the night when people are tired and cold. Sometimes that last run isn t such a good idea. Participants - If you or your buddy becomes injured, go to the base of a lift and tell the lift operator to call Ski Patrol. Make sure you know what trail, and where on the trail the injured person is. If you are injured and are brought to the first aid station, tell them who you are and that you are with the Jaffrey Parks and Recreation Department. Ski Patrol and/or your chaperone will notify JPRD staff. Crotched Mountain Ski Patrol will have all necessary paperwork and emergency contact information in their office. Parents - If your child is injured we will call you even if the injury is relatively minor, just so you know before we get home. In the event of a broken bone or other injury requiring a trip to the emergency room, your consent will be required before your child can receive medical attention unless the injury is life threatening. If you are not going to be home on Tuesday or Thursday evening, please be sure you

have your charged cell phone with you with the power on or give us the phone number where you can be reached. Also, be certain your emergency contact knows that he/she is the emergency contact and knows how to get in touch with you. If your child is hurt toward the end of the day, and requires medical attention, you may be called to come up to Crotched Mountain to pick him/her up. Emergencies may prevent us from leaving on time. End of the night All participants are required to be back at the Crotched Mountain base lodge no later than 7pm. When back at the lodge, pack your gear and if needed, return your rentals to the rental shop. Remain downstairs by the lockers. Roll call will be taken to assure everyone is off the mountain. We will go to the bus as a group. Roll call will be taken again once everyone is seated in the bus. We want to be on the road by 7:30 pm at the latest. Returning We should arrive at the Jaffrey Courthouse parking lot at approximately 8:00 pm. Parents, please be waiting for us to arrive. If we are going to be exceptionally late due to weather, an accident, mechanical breakdown, etc. we will try to email, post to Facebook, or call the number you provided on the JPRD registration form. Participants, when we arrive at the parent pick-up location, please check around you to make sure there is no trash or belongings left behind. Parents Skiing Parents are always allowed to come to the mountain and join us for skiing. Please understand your child has been registered for a JPRD program and therefore your child is our responsibility until you sign-out your child, even if you are there skiing with them. Our policies and directions of our staff must be followed. If you decide to come up to the mountain stay longer than we do and/or drive your child home yourself, you must let the indoor chaperone know and sign your child out of the program. Finding Your Child on the Mountain The JPRD will have one contact chaperone in the lodge or at the magic carpet at all times. This chaperone will have radio or cell phone and will know the general vicinity of each group. This person will be marked as a contact chaperone by wearing clothing with the JPRD logo on it.
