Adapted Floor Hockey St. Cloud Area claims second CI championship; Brainerd defends PI title The Slapshots of St. Cloud Area won their second CI title after defeating South Washington 13-4. In the PI Division, Brainerd won its second consecutive championship with an 11-4 victory over Robbinsdale/Hopkins/Mound Westonka. CI Division The St. Cloud Area Slapshots earned their second crown after defeating South Washington 13-4. St. Cloud Area took a 6-0 lead in the first period behind two goals from Adam Marshall and the Slapshots never looked back. Marshall finished the game with three goals and five assists. Brian Jones added six goals and two assists for St. Cloud Area. Tyler Tinucci, who tallied three goals in the second period, scored all four goals for the Thunderbolts. St. Cloud Area, which earned runner-up honors in 2017, won its only other title in 2007. In the third-place game, the two-time defending champions from North Suburban defeated Anoka-Hennepin 9-3. The Cougars were led by Nikoli Marr, who finished the game with five goals. Dylan Theroux scored two goals for the Mustangs. The Trojans of New Prague/TCU/LHS/ Belle Plaine/Jordan defeated Maple Grove 11-2 to claim consolation honors. Garrett Gagner scored four goals and added three assists for the Trojans. Dylan Raaen added six points for New Prague/TCU/LHS/Belle Plaine/Jordan. Jose Gutierrez-Peralta had one goal and one assist for Maple Grove. St. Cloud Area advanced to the championship game with a 10-1 victory over Anoka- Hennepin. Brian Jones led the Slapshots with five goals and two assists. Adam Marshall added two goals and Jordan Williams had two assists. South Washington earned a spot in the championship game by knocking off North Suburban 9-6. The Thunderbolts led 4-3 after two periods and Bryce Smith scored a goal to make it 5-3 before the Cougars scored two goals in 65 second to tie the game 5-5. Tyler Tinucci netted the game-winner at 7:46 of the third period and Nicholas Jones added an insurance goal for South Washington 31 seconds later. Tinucci finished the game with seven goals and one assist for the Thunderbolts. PI Division The Brainerd Warriors won their second consecutive title and fourth overall after defeating Robbinsdale/Hopkins/Mound Westonka 11-4. The Warriors won as Brainerd in 1998 and 2000, and as Brainerd/Pillager last year. The teams played to a 4-4 stalemate through two periods, but then the Warriors seized control with seven unanswered goals. Jake Heikkenen and Jacob Heinlen each scored two third-period goals for Brainerd. Heikkenen finished the game with four goals and two assists and Heinlen added two goals and two assists. Robbinsdale/Hopkins/ Mound Westonka s Vincent Luu tallied two unassisted goals. The Crimson of Maple Grove claimed third-place honors after defeating Rochester 5-3. Johnny Perez led Maple Grove with one goal and three assists and Kirby Gilbertson tacked on two goals and one assist. Hannah Oakley, Tanner Dickison, and Blake Hillman accounted for Rochester s goals. In the consolation final, Dakota United defeated Anoka-Hennepin 8-3. The score was tied 1-1 going into the third period when the Hawks erupted for seven goals. Dakota United s Riley Wisniewski scored five goals in the final period. Nicholas Reither struck twice for the Mustangs in the third period. Brainerd defeated Rochester 10-1 in the semifinals. Eight players recorded points for the Warriors, led by Maddox Cannon with four. Cody Vleck and Tre Von Otey added three points apiece for Brainerd. Robbinsdale/Hopkins/Mound Westonka advanced to the title game after slipping by Maple Grove with a 9-3 victory. The Robins were up 7-1 coming into the third period, led by four goals from Calvin Gerdt. Vincent Luu added two goals and two assists for Robbinsdale/Hopkins/Mound Westonka. Paid attendance for the tournament, held March 16 and 17 at Bloomington Jefferson High School, was 1,590.
