VOLUME 3, ISSUE 3 NOVEMBER 2014 News from our PTA President October came and went very quickly! We hope everyone enjoyed the programs that your PTA was able to bring to the Ranch. We had Meet the Masters art lessons kick off with a unit on Picasso. Next, your little artists submitted art work, videos, and written creations for the Reflections art contest. Judging will take place in early November. We wrapped up the month with Red Ribbon Week, and the theme was Love Yourself. Be Drug Free! Plus our campus friend Officer Gordon Keogh from the San Antonio Police Department spoke at our Bike Rodeo Assembly, to get the kids fired up about participating in our first ever Fall Bike Rodeo (now 6 months earlier in the school year). This month, in addition to presenting Bike Rodeo, PTA will be helping out at the Veterans Day Ceremony on campus. This is always a very patriotic event and lots of Bronco parents and family members who served our country will be our guests. The end of the month brings Thanksgiving break. We hope you will have a great week off from school and have fun spending time with friends and family. We are thankful for all our Bronco students and parents, and our teachers and staff. Please let me know if you have any questions or comments about Vineyard Ranch PTA. You can always go to our website, www.vineyardranchpta.org, which is chock full of information. The next general PTA meeting will be held on Tuesday, December 2 at 6:30 PM. The 2 nd graders will be performing that evening. See you around the Ranch! VOLUME 3 ISSUE 3 PAGE 3 Dual Language Program Vineyard Ranch PTA Please join our fast-growing dual language community at Vineyard Ranch! The PTA s Dual Language Committee is working on new activities, and we need volunteers. If you would like to add Dual Language to your skills/interests choices in our PTA volunteer database, please send me the following information: parent/guardian name, email address, home/cell phone number, student name(s), grade(s), and teacher(s). Or, if you submitted a PTA Volunteer Opportunities Form at the beginning of school, you can update your information in the database yourself. For login instructions, please make a request using my email address below. Don t miss the opportunity to visit our Day of the Dead Altar during the week of November 3-7. It will be located in the school Atrium. Day of the Dead Altars are built to honor the lives of those who have passed away. They are often quite beautiful creations, constructed with love and care. Creating an altar is one of the most important traditions during Day of the Dead in Mexico (November 2nd) and in Mexican-American communities around the globe. From September 15 to October 15, we celebrated National Hispanic Heritage Month. During this time, we recognized the contribution of Hispanics in the United States and we celebrated their culture, traditions and heritage. We highlighted the priceless contributions of U.S. Sec. Julian Castro (Housing & Urban Development and former Mayor of San Antonio), Roberto Gómez Bolaños (Chespirito), singer Gloria Estefan, author Dr. Carmen Tafolla (first Poet Laureate of San Antonio), and athlete Diego Armando Maradona. I hope you had the chance to stop by the showcase in the Atrium near the library. Special thanks go to Mrs. Steinbarth (our Bilingual Specialist) and Mrs. Walker (Kindergarten dual teacher) for their help with the showcase and the altar. Don t hesitate to contact me with any comments or questions. Victoria Carrion duallanguage@vineyardranchpta.org
