Happy 2019 to all of you Some big changes in the Rules of Golf for 2019 I have included a list of the most likely changes you will encounter as an attachment to our schedule Please take some time to review my attachment and you will find more details are available from the rules link on our website: http://peoplekzooedu/~dkiino/kwga The website is loaded with information about our events, our event champions, our rules and bylaws The board is excited to present our 2019 schedule of events There are some tournament dates that have moved and we have included another oneday event Two of our oneday events (Kalamazoo CC and Gull Lake CC) require you pay cash for your greens fees I want to thank all of you who played and contributed to the KWGA in 2018 Participation in our oneday events is outstanding We hope you will consider participating in our Medal and Match Play tournaments this year Our season kicks off with a repeat of the spring membership drive at the Moors on April 28 th This is a preseason scramble and opportunity for KWGA members to bring a guest; the cost is $45 Guests who sign up that day to become a new member of the KWGA will pay a reduced rate of $25 for the year Members who bring a guest and all guests will be eligible for a drawing for two $50 gift cards to the Moors Pro Shop The annual meeting this year is at Gull Lake View East on September 16 th The annual meeting gives us a chance to review the year, discuss ideas and elect new officers Many questions arise during the year and I want to answer some of the most frequently asked questions 1 How are the membership dues spent? The dues support the prizes for all the oneday events, spring event, treasurer s fees and any other board expenses 2 Why are the tournament entries different from the one day events? Each tournament is selfsupporting and the entry fee must support the greens fee and cart fee negotiated with the golf course and prizes for the event 3 Do I have to have my own foursome to play in oneday events? No, you can sign up and the director running that event will pair you with other players I am looking forward to seeing all of you at our events this year and hope to see many new faces at the Moors Jayme Heimonen 2019 KWGA President

Rules Changes for 2019 1 Player may repair almost any damage on the green including ball marks 2 Player may putt with the flagstick in with no penalty for hitting the flagstick 3 When dropping ball for relief, drop from knee height 4 Time search for a lost ball is now 3 minutes 5 Player may remove loose impediments in bunker 6 Unplayable ball in bunker; player can take relief out of the bunker with a two stroke penalty 7 No penalty for player or opponent accidently moving ball on the putting green The ball is replaced to the estimated original spot 8 No penalty for accidental ball deflections when ball hits player, opponent or equipment Play the ball as it lies 9 No penalty for ball moved during search, must be replaced to the estimated original spot 10 There are new rules for taking relief (Rule 143) Please review from our rules link on our website 11 New local rule that is an alternative to Stroke and Distance for Lost Ball or Ball out of Bounds The player, for two penalty strokes, may take relief by dropping in the defined relief area in Rule 143 Many of these rules were changed to help speed up play The KWGA wants to encourage you to commit to speeding up our play We recommend you play ready golf and make each stroke in no more than 40 seconds Be aware of your position on the golf course and keep pace with the group ahead of you
