SPRING 2016 E-mail: tristate@pgahq.com Web Site: tristate.pga.com Dear TSPGA Member, The Tri-State Section PGA Annual Spring Meeting will be held at Montour Heights Country Club on Monday, March 21. Please join me in welcoming our guest speaker, Paul Levy, Vice President PGA of America. You can now register for the meeting on-line. See the enclosed flyer for more information. The meeting will be sponsored by PGA National Resort & Spa. A special thank you goes out to the Spring Meeting presenting sponsor, Greg Bowser. Members will earn five PGA MSR Required Meeting Credits for attending the meeting. PRESIDENT S MESSAGE The PGA of America was founded in 1916 and will celebrate its 100th birthday this year. The PGA centennial celebration officially began during the PGA Merchandise Show and will continue for 100 days. The focus will be on the 41 PGA sections and the PGA professionals. As the celebration continues, the Tri-State Section will be highlighted on the Golf Channel s (Morning Drive Program) with a video vignette highlighting the programs and people that make our section proud on March 17. This may also be viewed on PGA.org. This year, more than ever, it is vital that we promote the value of PGA members and the difference we can make to the bottom line at any type of golf operation. PGA professionals must work hard to grow the game. We are responsible for creating a fun golf experience to enhance participation levels. The more we educate golfers, the more they will play, attend events and tune into golf. PGA professionals are the key factor in propelling the golf industry. Education Chairman, Jason Marciniec, announced that the section will conduct a teaching seminar East meets West at Oakmont Country Club on Monday, March 14th from 9:00 AM -12:00 PM. The cost of the seminar is $60.00 per person and all PGA Professionals will earn 3 PGA Required MSR Credits. Guest speakers include: Lou Guzzi, PGA - 2013 National PGA Teacher of the Year; Ted Sheftic, PGA - Golf Digest s #1 Teacher of the Year in Pennsylvania; Eric Johnson, PGA - Director of Instruction at Oakmont Country Club and Mark Sheftic, PGA - Director of Instruction at Merion Golf Club. Enter on-line at tristate.pga.com Please see the enclosed information sheet for the rules and regulations for MSR (Member Services Requirement) as defined by the PGA Membership Committee effective June 16, 2015. The MSR period will run thru June 15, 2018. Fifty-four (54) credits are required for the three-year cycle. 36 of the credits must be earned thru Required Meeting/Education/Golf 2.0/ Player Development Category! Congratulations to the 2016 PGA of America Special Award winners in the Tri-State Section. These deserving professionals will be honored at the Fall Meeting at Montour Heights Country Club on Monday, October 31. I would like to thank our tournament chairman, John Klinchock for the outstanding 2016 tournament schedule he has put together. Please review the 2016 Pro-Am sign up procedure sheet included with this newsletter for New 2016 sign up policy. If an event is sold out, please sign up on the wait list. Juniors can now sign up for PGA Junior Golf League under the Junior Golf Link on our website. See attachment. We have also added a new event: Dick s Sporting Goods Parent/Jr. Championship. All juniors can now enter the Tri-State PGA Junior Tour events on-line under the Junior Golf Link starting on March 28. The PGA Jr. Championship entry and payment must still be mailed to the section office along with the notarized medical authorization form. Take a moment to review the enclosed TSPGA Players Code of Conduct. Please be considerate about using the locker facilities at the host clubs, removing hats while in the clubhouse, paying your cart fee and golf course etiquette. Complete the 2016 PGA Golf Professional Compensation Survey at PGA.org prior to March 31st and earn MSR credits provided the maximum for this category has not been met. Completing the Survey will update your Profile and is required to stay active in Career Links. Have you signed up for the TSPGA Las Vegas Pro-Am? We again have exclusive use of all three Paiute Resort Courses each day. Final team deposits MUST be sent to the section office by April 30. Deposits are needed to hold our room block at Planet Hollywood and the golf courses at the Las Vegas Paiute Golf Resort! Team spots are going quickly. See attached reservation form. player development What s New for PGA Junior League Golf in 2016 Program looks to build on success by driving additional benefit to Team Captains Just over a year ago, in February 2015, the PGA of America and its charitable foundation, PGA REACH, acquired PGA Junior League Golf. In the year since, the program has grown from 17,500 youth participants in 2014 to over 30,000 in 2015, implemented a new Youth Safety Policy and added Michelle Wie, Rickie Fowler and Lexi Thompson as Official Ambassadors alongside Rory McIlroy. With the 2016 season upon us, many PGA Professionals, Team Captains and Players alike are primed to keep the excitement going. Read on to learn what s new in 2016 and the exciting ways in which PGA Junior League Golf is poised to deliver more PGA Member value and touch more participant s lives than ever before. Online Player Registration A new mandatory player registration system streamlines the payment process, ensures a safe environment for Players and extends legal protections to PGA Junior League Golf Captains. Captains maintain flexibility in how much and in what method they collect their Player registration fees. Team Captains may choose to collect either all or just a portion of the program fee online (minimum of $75 player fee, required). If the total fee is collected during Player Registration, Captains may choose to have their funds distributed by check or ACH upon the shipment of their Team Kit. Upgraded Jerseys and Fulfillment Process Both the delivery of the Team Kit and the contents within the Team Kit has been upgraded for 2016. Upon a Captain confirming their League and having their League Page created, all teams within a league will automatically receive their Team Kit with unique jersey color and exact youth sized jersey as input during player registration. In addition to the fulfillment process, the jerseys themselves have been upgraded to a higher quality shirt material with sublimated numbers and logo for a world-class look and feel. New Materials Created to Support Your Team It s now easier than ever for you to implement PGA Junior League Golf at your facility. Here are three new resources to help you get started this season: Updated Marketing Materials - Leveraging PGA Junior League Golf's ambassadors Rory McIlroy, Michelle Wie, Rickie Fowler and Lexi Thompson, all new marketing collateral has been developed to help you promote your team. You ll receive a starter pack of stock posters and rack cards upon registration, but can also download and customize versions of these materials for your specific facility and program. You can access these materials at PGA.org/MarketingResourceCenter Instructional Video - To better explain how PGA Junior League Golf works, including the format, rules and schedule, Captains can share this ten-minute Instructional Video featuring real PGA Junior League Golf Captains and Players. You can access the video at Vimeo.com/154789845. Parent s Guide - Parents can play a critical role in the success of a Captains Team or League. Help them understand the basics of the program and how they can get involved with the newly developed Parent s Guide, which can be accessed at PGAJLG.com/parents. There s a New Consumer Website: PGAJLG.com PGAJLG.com, the program s website, has been entirely redesigned from the ground up, including a mobile-friendly interface. In addition to its full cosmetic makeover, the website adds increased functionality by integrating a search feature for players and parents to search and register for PGA Junior League Golf teams in their area. Captains may allow open registration to maximize this marketing opportunity or require their registrants have a team password prior to joining. Mobile App in Development To aid PGA and LPGA Professionals in their roles as Captains, a mobile application for both ios and Android devices is under development for the 2016 regular season. The new technology provides ease of scheduling, scoring, communicating with and following your team all from the palm of your hand. To start your team or league in 2016, visit PGA.org/PGAJLG today! 152 March 2016 www.pgamagazine.com (password: PGAmag007)
