The entertainment will kick-off early in the Miller Lite Plaza with the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders, Rhythm and Blue Dancers and Drumline and our very own DJ SC. Remember fans, When it s Cowboys Time, It s Miller Time! JASON GARRETT (16-16 3rd Year, 21-19 overall) Jason Garrett was named the eighth head coach in Dallas Cowboys history on January 5, 2011. Garrett became the first former Dallas Cowboys player to become the team s head coach. As a backup quarterback during his playing career in Dallas, he started nine-of-23 games played and was a member of teams that won six division titles and three Super Bowl championships. Garrett was elevated to the Cowboys top job after taking over as the team s interim head coach at the midway through 2010. He guided the club to a 5-3 mark to finish the season after the team started 1-7. During his time as the interim head coach, three of Dallas wins were against teams that posted a 10-win season, while the three losses were decided by a combined total of seven points. He led Dallas to an 8-8 record, narrowly missing the playoffs and an NFC East Division title in his first two full seasons as head coach (2011 and 2012). Since the 2007 season, Garrett has been the Cowboys offensive coordinator, and in 2008, he was assigned the additional duties of being the club s assistant head coach. Under Garrett, the Dallas offense has reached high levels of productivity in several categories, and the unit has finished among the NFL s top-10 in total offense four times: 2012 (sixth), 2010 (10th), 2009 (2nd), and 2007 (2nd). From the start of the 2007 season, the club has averaged 24.1 points-per-game and 370.7 total yards-per-outing. The team has set single-season records in a handful of categories, including topping 6,000 net yards for the first times in franchise history (2009-6,390 and 2011 6,008). Garrett returned to Dallas in 2007 as the offensive coordinator. He entered the coaching profession as the quarterbacks coach for two seasons (2005-06) for Nick Saban s first Miami Dolphins club. COWBOYS & MILLER LITE After claiming a win in last year s opener, Dallas will look to take consecutive opening wins for the second time in the last six years. Dallas enters 2013 with the league s best all-time opening-day win percentage (.673), ahead of Denver (.635), Jacksonville (.611), Chicago (.602) and the N.Y. Giants (.590). Dallas 35 opening-day wins are ninth all-time in league history. Dallas won 17 consecutive season-opening games from 1965-1981. That streak is the longest opening day win streak in the history of the NFL. The next longest streaks are Miami (11, 1992-02), Detroit (10, 1930-39) Chicago (9, 1984-92) and New England (9, 2004-12) and Baltimore Colts (8, 1955-62) and Pittsburgh Steelers (8, 2003-10). This season is the seventh in which Dallas will play the Giants on opening day and mark its second straight opener against the Giants. Dallas will look to extend its opening day record against the Giants to 6-0. HEAD COACHES 2 TOM COUGHLIN (163-128, 17th Year, 91-64 - N.Y.) Tom Coughlin was named the 16th head coach in Giants history on Jan. 6, 2004. This season marks his 10th with the Giants and 18th as an NFL head coach. Coughlin led New York s 2012 squad to a 9-7 record and the team s third straight winning season (eighth straight non-losing). His 2011 team garnered its second Super Bowl championship in four seasons and finished the regular season as the NFC East Champions with a 9-7 record. In 2010 the Giants went 10-6 after finishing 2009 8-8. Coughlin led the Giants to an NFC East title with a 12-4 record in 2008 that came on the heels of a Super Bowl XLII championship in 2007 with a 17-14 win over New England. In both his second and third seasons with the team (2005-06), Coughlin coached the Giants to an 11-5 record and the NFC East title. Before landing in New York, Coughlin spent eight seasons leading the Jacksonville Jaguars. Under Coughlin, Jacksonville had the most victories of any NFL expansion team in its first seven seasons. They were also the only expansion team in NFL history to advance to the playoffs four times in their first five seasons. Coughlin s team in 1996 reached the AFC Championship Game and earned playoff berths in 1997 and 1998. In 1999 he posted an NFL-best 14-2 record and a second AFC Championship Game appearance. He became the first coach in Jaguars history on Feb. 21, 1994. Before that, Coughlin coached wide receivers for the Philadelphia Eagles (1984-85), Green Bay Packers (1986-87) and New York Giants (1988-1990). He was a member the Giants coaching staff that took home a Super Bowl XXV championship. Before heading to the NFL, Coughlin was Boston College s head coach (1991-93), while also coaching at Syracuse (1969, 1974-80), and was the head coach at Rochester Institute of Technology (1970-73). He played wingback at Syracuse (1965-67), with teammates Larry Csonka and Floyd Little. With a 17-10 halftime deficit, Romo came out of the intermission and went 10-of- 10 for 169 yards with three touchdowns. It was the second time in his career he completed 100% of his second half passes. The first time was at Arizona (11/12/06) where he went 10-of-10 for 144 yards with one touchdown. In recent history of the organization, only Randall Cunningham (at Arizona, 9/10/00) completed all of his passes through one half. It was in the first half of the 31-32 loss where he completed all 12 of his passes for 141 yards and two touchdowns. Besides the three flawless halfs mentioned above, there have been nine times in recent team history that a quarterback completed all but one pass (10-or-more attempts). The most recent was Kyle Orton (nine-of-10) against Chicago (10/1/12). Romo accomplished the feat three times and Troy Aikman did it five times. GO LONG Since becoming the Cowboys starting quarterback in 2006, Tony Romo has had the knack for the big play. In his 93 career starts, Romo has completed 29 touchdown passes of at least 50 yards. He has provided Dallas with the full package at tight end. After nine-plus seasons, Witten has caught 806 passes for 8,948 yards and 44 touchdowns. He is the third all-time leading tight end in career receptions and receiving yards. To open the 2011 season, Witten rattled off 110 yards - his 13th career 100-yard outing to become the seventh tight end in league history to reach 7,000 receiving yards. His work through the 2011 season allowed him to crack the top-five on the tight end receiving yards list. Witten opened the 2012 season at the N.Y. Giants (9/5) with two catches for 10 yards to pass Jackie Smith (7,918) for fourth on the list. Despite being held to just two catches for eight yards against Tampa Bay (9/23), Witten moved into third alltime. He then crossed the 8,000-yard mark against Chicago (10/1) with his 15th career 100-yard game. By mid-november of 2011, Witten passed Newsome (662) for third on the all-time receptions list. With four catches at Seattle (9/16) in 2012, he became the third tight end in league history with 700 career catches. His seven catches in the finale at Washington (12/30) made him the third tight end in league history to reach 800 career receptions: NFL Career Receptions NFL Career Receiving Leaders (TEs) Yards Leaders (TEs) 1. He has appeared in the most Pro Bowls by a Cowboys tight end (eight, seven consecutive - 2004-10 and 2012), is tops on the club s all-time receptions chart and second on the receiving yards chart. Proving himself as a reliable target, Witten has 806 career receptions for 8,948 yards. In 2012 he took the top spot on the club s receptions chart from Michael Irvin at Atlanta (11/4) after a seven-catch, 51-yard game. Witten took 151 games to reach the top of the team s receptions chart which was faster than Irvin (159). When compared to the two other NFL tight ends with at least 750 catches - Tony Gonzalez and Shannon Sharpe - Witten also reached the mark faster - Gonzalez (163 games), Sharpe (169). A favorite target of Tony Romo, Witten accounts for 515 catches and 5,815 yards of Romo s 2,097 completions and 25,373 yards. Both of Witten s numbers are more than any other player that has caught a pass from Romo. Witten caught 13 passes for 112 yards - both team highs - and a score - against Chicago (10/1). His 13 catches were third in his career, tied for third among any Cowboys pass catcher and tied for eighth by an NFL tight end. He then bettered that with a clubrecord 18-catch game against the N.Y. Giants (10/28). CLIMBING THE CHARTS Already placing in the top-three in career receptions and receiving yards all-time among league tight ends, Jason Witten is also climbing up the NFL s all-time receptions and receiving yards charts among all position players. Witten opens the 2013 season 26th in career receptions (806) and 55th in career receiving yards (8,948). He should be able to crack the top-20 in receptions early in the season as he needs only 21 catches to reach the 20th spot. The 2009 club has the single-season franchise yards mark, the 2011 team has the second and the 2012 squad the third. Additionally, in his first year (2007), the club now ranks eighth all time, followed by the 2010 squad in ninth. Below is a year-by-year glimpse at the Cowboys yardage output in each of Garrett s season with the club: BAILEY S BOOTS Dan Bailey closed out the 2012 season converting 29-of-31 field goal tries (93.5%). His 29 field goals made in 2012 are tied for fourth in a season in franchise history while his 93.5 field goal percentage is second. For his career, Bailey has converted 61-of- 68 tries (89.7%). Through his two pro seasons, Bailey s 61 field goals made are seventh all-time in franchise history. Along the way, Bailey has 10 games with three-or-more field goals made - tied for third in franchise history. This season, Bailey connected on three-or-more field goals five times - against Tampa Bay (9/23), at Baltimore (10/14), at Carolina (10/21), against Cleveland (11/18) and against Washington (11/22). Additionally, he had two games with four-plus field goals made, tied for the fourth-most in team history: Games with 3+ FGs Made Games with 4+ FGs Made s Games s Games Rafael Septien...21 Chris Boniol...4 Richie Cunningham..11 Richie Cunningham...3 Chris Boniol...10 Eddie Murray...3 Dan Bailey...10 Dan Bailey...2 Eddie Murray...7 Five others...2 Toni Fritsch...7 Bailey has also hit all 76 PAT tries - 11th in franchise history. In both games against the Eagles in 2012, Bailey converted five PAT attempts, tying the most in his career and tied for the fourth-highest PAT figure in a game in Cowboys history. GAME-WINNING KICKS In his rookie season, Dan Bailey was called upon six times to win or tie the game with his foot. Four times he came through for Dallas. Bailey s four game-winning field goals were the most by a Dallas Cowboy in a single season and the most by a rookie in NFL history. In 2012 Bailey had four opportunities to do the same, and he came through with 0:02 left in the fourth quarter against Cleveland (11/18) to send the game in overtime, then sealed it with a 38-yard kick with 6:07 remaining in the extra period. The second was at Cincinnati when he hit a 40-yarder as time expired and the third was against Pittsburgh (12/16) with a 21-yarder in overtime. In team history, there have now been 35 instances in which a kicker was true on a game-winning field goal with 2:00-or-less left in the fourth quarter or in overtime. Bailey has rang true with seven game-winners to tie Rafael Septien for the most in team history: Dallas Cowboys Game-Winning Field Goals Opp, Date Yards Score Time Left Greene PIT, 9/17/61 27 27-24 0:00 Greene @NYG, 10/29/61 32 17-16 1:23 Villanueva @Was, 11/13/66 37 31-30 0:19 Fritsch @StL, 11/7/71 26 16-13 1:53 Fritsch @Chi, 9/16/73 11 20-17 1:26 Herrera STL, 11/13/74 20 17-14 0:04 Fritsch @Phi, 10/26/75 42 20-17 0:01 Herrera BAL, 9/26/76 32 30-27 0:03 Septien @StL, 10/15/78 47 24-21 3:28-OT Septien @StL, 9/2/79 27 22-21 1:16 Septien @NYG, 11/4/79 22 16-14 0:03 Septien TB,10/9/81 42 27-24 4:38-OT Septien NO, 10/21/84 41 30-27 3:42-OT Septien NE, 11/22/84 23 20-17 0:04 Septien @Phi, 10/19/86 38 17-14 0:02 Murray @NYG, 1/2/94 41 16-13 4:16-OT Boniol NYG, 12/17/95 35 21-20 0:00 Boniol @SF, 11/10/96 29 20-17 0:00 Cunningham WAS, 11/16/97 42 17-14 0:04 Seder @Car, 10/1/00 24 16-13 11:08-OT Seder WAS, 10/15/01 26 9-7 0:00 Cundiff @StL, 9/29/02 48 13-10 0:00 Cundiff @NYG, 9/15/03 25 35-32 9:04-OT Cundiff PHI, 10/12/03 28 23-21 1:11 Cortez NYG, 10/16/05 45 16-13 3:47-OT Gramatica @NYG, 12/2/06 46 23-20 0:06 Folk @Buf, 10/8/07 53 25-24 0:02 Buehler @Ind, 12/5/10 38 38-35 8:01-OT Buehler WAS, 12/19/10 39 33-30 0:55 Bailey @SF, 9/18/11 19 27-24 12:10-OT Bailey WAS, 9/26/11 40 18-16 1:52 Bailey @Was, 11/20/11 39 27-24 5:47-OT Bailey MIA, 11/24/11 28 20-19 0:00 Bailey CLE, 11/18/12 38 23-20 6:07-OT Bailey @Cin, 12/9/12 40 20-19 0:00 Bailey PIT, 12/16/12 21 27-24 13:36-OT ONE OUT OF EVERY THREE...
