CELEBRATING 23 YEARS OF SINGLES GOLF IN AMERICA Sarasota Chapter - American Singles Golf Association - March 2015 President s Message Our SSGA chapter is off to a great start in 2015 thanks to golf chairs Melissa Littlewood and Laurie Lawrence who have 15 golf events planned through July. Thank you to the volunteer hosts for all events. Thank you to Sally Reeder for volunteering to be our Social Chair. Please contact her regarding any social activity suggestions. Our chapter added 5 members in February bringing our total membership to 80. Please post flyers at different locations you frequent to encourage other singles to join the SSGA. We welcome the guests from chapters outside of Florida and are happy to have you participate in the events. Be sure to mark your calendars for the events listed by Jim Johndrow, our Communications Chair, in the newsletter. ~Lana Craig fairway by Jim Fitzpatrick resulting in a birdie; witnesses were Susan Zalkin and Eileen Merchant. Happy birthday to Jim Mazza on this day as well! Prizes were awarded for low net scores. The men s winner was Gary Slavin with a score of 58 and Lynn Carter with a score of 66 for the women. John Girlus had the longest drive for the men and Cynthia Borck hit the longest for the ladies. Closest to the pin honors went to Alan Brewer and Clare Evers who sunk the 12 foot putt to birdie the hole. Eileen Merchant won the 50/50 drawing. Congratulations to all the winners. A deli buffet and other refreshments were available in the dining room after golf. Special thanks to Cynthia Borck, Clare Evers and Bona Fenzl for their help at check-in. Golf Past Events Bent Tree Twenty nine golfers enjoyed a warm and beautiful day at Bent Tree Country Club on Sunday March 8. This was a play your own ball 18 hole event. A Golf Poem: In My Hand I Hold A Ball, White And Dimpled, Rather Small. Oh, How Bland It Does Appear, This Harmless Looking Little Sphere.. By Its Size I Could Not Guess, The Awesome Strength It Does Possess. But Since I Fell Beneath Its Spell, I've Wandered Through The Fires Of Hell. My Life Has Not Been Quite The Same, Since I Chose To Play This Stupid Game. It Rules My Mind For Hours On End, A Fortune It Has Made Me Spend. It Has Made Me Yell, Curse And Cry, I Hate Myself And Want To Die. It Promises A Thing Called Par, If I Can Hit It Straight And Far. To Master Such A Tiny Ball, Should Not Be Very Hard At All. But My Desires The Ball Refuses, And Does Exactly As It Chooses. It Hooks And Slices, Dribbles And Dies, And Even Disappears Before My Eyes. Often It Will Have A Whim, To Hit A Tree Or! Take A Swim.
