Primary School Assemblies This term we have performance from the following classes at the Primary Assembly. Please come along and join the assembly if you would like to. Term 4 Dates Year 4 Friday 2 October Year 5 Friday 16 Nov Year 6 Friday 30 Nov 2018 Term Dates Term 3 July 9 to September 21 Term 4 October 8 to December 14 P & F Meetings BSSA NEWS Term 4 Thursday 01 November & Thursday 29 November BSSA Soccer Week 1 results AIS1 9-10Yrs Mixed The 9-10 age group squad opened the season with two away fixtures against Canggu Community School (CCS) at their home ground. It was a little bit of a rush to get there from our new location on Iman Bonjol and two of our players missed the first match but we had a squad of 11 to provide cover, with Diajeng, Jay, Joe, Joey, Sonny and Tommy from Year 4 and Bailey, Ben, Dusty, Jack and Jason from Year 3. As soon as the first game got underway, we were immediately put under pressure by Canggu s first team. Our players looked a little nervous as passes went astray and we couldn t really link our defensive play with our efforts to attack. Bailey was making his BSSA debut in goal and performed an admirable job of protecting the net, clearing corners and offering a safe pair of hands. At half time, the score was 0-0. In the second half, Canggu came out strongly, playing a confident passing game. They took control of the match and scored four times without reply, despite us trying valiantly until the last minute to break their stranglehold on the match. In the last two years we

have held the upper hand against Canggu but this year they looked a very good team and were worthy winners. In the second match we found ourselves against the Canggu second team and we immediately looked more competitive. We passed the ball better, attempted more dribbles and got in more shots at goal. It was an end to end match, much enjoyed by both sets of supporters, and late in the game goals from Sonny, Bailey and Jay put us into a 3-2 lead. Unfortunately, with the last two attacks of the game, Canggu scored twice and sneaked a 4-3 victory. We will be back at Canggu next week for two more games. The afternoon had been well organised by their new coach and there was a buzz about the place with so many teams playing games on the three pitches. Week 2 results AIS1 9-10Yrs Mixed It was strange to be going over to Canggu Community School (CCS) a week after our last visit but this time it was to play Sunrise School and the Green School first team. We again had a large squad of 11 to choose from with Aqilla and Sonny Greig coming in as part of our rotation to replace Ben and Jason. Kicking off against Sunrise, the team appeared more confident than the previous week and we surged into a 3-0 lead with goals from Aqilla, Joe and Sonny Gosling. Our defence marked the dangerous players from Sunrise and Tommy was handling the ball well in goal. It gave us an opportunity to use the full depth of our squad and give some valuable game time to some younger players. Sunrise edged back into the game in the second half but we finished as 3-2 winners and were never really in trouble. Having won our first match of the season, the team again started strongly against the Green School first team. They had their two best players in attack and their strikers went

on a few mazy dribbles which threatened our goal. The whole team worked hard to outnumber them and we soon realised their defence was not as strong as their attack and we began to put them under pressure. We forced a series of corners and Jay knocked in a series of excellent crosses that we finished well. The Green School 3 player defence was starting to struggle against us and a variety of players began popping up and scoring. By the end of the game, Dusty, Aqilla, Sonny and Joaquin had found the net and we had won 8-2, Aqilla with an impressive hat-trick on his debut joined Sonny who also had three goals. It had been an enjoyable afternoon, and a hot one, where all of our players had an opportunity to participate. Thanks to the parents who had traveled over to support the team and provide half time snacks. AIS 13-15yrs Girls This week s Soccer match between the 13-15yr old girls was a fantastic game to open the season. AIS won 2-0 over CCS2. Well done girls. The team played so well together with awesome defense. Scoring goals went to Salina and Yoshi. Great match everyone. Ms Sarah EARLY CHILDHOOD NEWS Parent/Teacher Interviews Thank you to all parents from PS3 & PS4 for coming to speak with me on Tuesday. This was an important time to discuss your child s progress. I hope you were able to get some valuable feedback on your child. Ms Ayu Early Childhood Teacher

PRIMARY SCHOOL NEWS Primary School Swimming Program As most of you are aware, each Term 1 & Term 4 we have been providing Learn to Swim programmes for our Primary School students. Now that we are firmly ensconced in our new campus we are modifying the swimming program to better suit the needs of the community. Upper Primary - Year 3 to Year 6 will now continue swimming during PE time 1 period per week as follows. These students are all independent swimmers and are able to follow a swimming programme supervised by Pak Rod and Pak Putu who are both competent swimmers: Year 3 Wed P.5 Year 4 Thurs P.6 Year 5 Fri P.6 Year 6 Fri P.5 Early Childhood & Lower Primary PS3 Year 2 will be following the compulsory in-school Learn to Swim program with Bali Nelangi once a week. This is in-line with our curriculum and teaching students to swim is also part of our responsibility as an Australian school. The Bali Nelangi team are swimming teachers who are able to develop confidence in your child s ability to swim. They are also able to provide opportunities for more confident swimmers to develop their stroke and swimming techniques. The schedule and cost for this program will be sent out before the end of term. Both the Upper, Lower Primary & Early Childhood will run from Wk 3 to Wk 8 (6 weeks) Please Note: This is not a replacement for the AIS Flippers Swimming Club as you are free to choose to attend the afternoon club if you would like your child to develop their swimming skills further. Book Week 2018 Find Your Treasure Ahoy Matey! In Week 2 Term 4, we will be celebrating Book Week here at AIS Bali. There will be games, competitions and activities for your class to enjoy as well as the Friday Book Week Character Parade. The theme this year is Find Your Treasure, you may wish to start planning your dress up ideas. This year you can dress as one of your favorite storybook characters or alternatively anything Pirate to go with our Find Your Treasure theme. Aarrgh! See you there me Hearties.

Learning Journey s Thank you to all those parents who were able to make it to Learning Journey s this week. The students in all year levels always enjoy this time of the year as they have the opportunity to share their work and school life with you. We hope you also enjoyed the experience and have learned a lot about the wonderful progress your child has made throughout the year. Healthy Eating At AIS Bali we promote and encourage all students to have a healthy eating plan. We ask that all parents encourage their child/ren to eat healthy meals throughout the day and avoid too many unhealthy snacks such as chips, chocolates and lollies. We have all been busy parents at some stage and know that at times its tricky getting a lunch box packed in the mornings; however some fruit and other healthy snacks should be encouraged. Here at AIS we do not allow junk food on campus eg. McDonalds, Pizza Hut, Burger King etc to be delivered and we ask you not to pack loads of sugar into your child s lunchbox. Teachers in the Lower Primary classes will remove any of these food items and they can have them after school. Too much sugar inhibits your child s ability to concentrate and focus throughout the day. Please also be aware that this is a nut free campus and no nuts are allowed to be consumed. This includes Nutella sandwiches or snack packs, birthday cakes, donuts etc. Please always be aware of what you are putting in your child s lunch box. Head Lice There have been reports of Head Lice in the Primary School. With the current weather starting to be rainy and humid, it s the more prolific time for head lice to multiply. Please be aware of this and monitor your child s hair regularly. If they have head lice we are obliged to call you and have you take your child home to treat their hair. Best also if you wash school hats and keep an eye on linen at home. Let s all work together to keep these little critters under control. We still have natural head lice lotion from Nitti Gritti for sale in the office along with Nit combs.
