Volume 50 - Issue 6 June, 2016 Air Capital Corvette Club Newsletter Message from the Prez... Wow! What a turn out for the ACCC Best Western Car show. The weather was perfect, the food truck worked out great and we had good music. We will probably need to expand the show area next year. Everyone please thank Dale and Barbara for organizing the show, getting donations and giveaways, and getting Davis-Moore to donate the cost for the trophies. Later that day we all went on our monthly drive and eat to Mulvane at The Eatery where we had a good buffet to choose from. Thank the Dykes and Coopers for the new eating venue. Okay, I told you not to miss it. Those that went to the Lawrence Smith car collection got a real treat. It appeared to me that Lawrence had sold some cars but replaced them with some new cars. He has 85+ in his collection, including: Bentleys, Rolls Royce s, hot rod classics, Jaguars, muscle cars, race cars, motor bikes, a fire truck, a plane and automobile memorabilia. There were six ACCC couples represented at The Lone Star Corvette Classic in Fort Worth at the Texas Motor Speedway. Friday night started with a BBQ and drive, and then ended with the movie American Graffiti on the Texas Motor Speedway big screen. My alternator quit on me half way thru the drive back to the speedway to view the movie. Thank God it didn t give out on the way to Texas, and I was able to find a replacement Saturday morning. Dennis Thomas won his class in the Autocross. Cindy and Gary Dyke won a plaque at the car show for the Special Andy Pilgrim Award; yours truly won the Hot Wheels Corvette Lone Star Classic. Four ACCC members made it into the finals. Cristy Bailey finished 3rd while Cindy Dyke and Barbara Brotton finished 5th and 6th. The last event Cristy and I participated in was the blindfold golf cart autocross. Turn right-right, now straight, now left-left, no wait right-right, no wait left! I think I had the fastest time of the day, and I only hit 16 cones. Cristy s time wasn t as fast as mine, but she only hit 3 cones. I think it may have been the most fun we had all weekend. Sincerely, Glen Bailey ACCC President Page 1

Volume 50 - Issue 6 June, 2016 Minutes from the May 4, 2016 ACCC Meeting Glen Bailey, President, opened the meeting by recognizing guest, Mike Blackburn and new member, Steve Henderson. There were no objections to the minutes as printed in the newsletter. Jay Shore moved the minutes be accepted as printed, seconded by Betty Henderson. The motion carried with only three discentions. Bob Battaglear reported we currently have 103 paid memberships. Treasurer, Deb Schmitz, reported a bank balance of $3,727.53 Upcoming events were covered by Brad Ketchersid with help from Barbara Brotton (ACCC Best Western All Corvette Show) and Kent Michael (Lawrence Smith collection). ACCC members were active in several activities including a trip to City to visit the Arabia River Boat Museum, the Hot Springs, AK Corvette Weekend (five couples attended) and the Newton Prom Escort for special kids (22 cars gave the kids plenty to choose from). Thanks to Mike Dierking who agreed to take July, all of the Drive and Eats are now covered. Kevin Mansfield made a presentation of the fourth Corvette generation, C4. He owns a C4 that has been totaled and rebuilt, so he is intimately familiar with this generation. Prizes were awarded and the Village Inn count taken prior to adjournment. Respectfully submitted, Preston Hughes, Secretary National Corvette Museum Visit I am excited to announce that Air Capital Corvette Club is planning a trip to the National Corvette Museum on Wednesday July 20,2016 thru July 24,2016. We have a block of 25 rooms (more can be added if needed) at the Fairfield Inn in Bowling Green. The hotel is just a few miles from the museum. We have a fun weekend planned. Such as a Corvette Plant tour, Museum tour and time at the Motorsports Park. There will be a drive and eat to a distillery sometime during our stay. For those that are interested you will need to make your room reservations by June 15,2016 to secure block room rate. To make room reservations contact Fairfield Inn and tell them you are with Air Capital Corvette Club. Our negotiated room rate is $99.00 per night or $109.00 if you would like a suite. The suites are on a limited basis, so they are first come first serve. There will be more details to follow as the trip gets closer. I am looking forward to making this trip and hope you are as well. Feel free to call or email me if you have any questions. Fairfield Inn 1832 Cave Mill Rd. June, 2016 Volume 50 - Issue 6 Minutes from the May 18, 2016 ACCC E-Board Meeting Bob reported 107 paid memberships Deb reported a $3,412.98 bank balance. Brad to contact Monte Rans about setting up a fall bowling night. Brad suggested an outing at the NBC baseball tournament-free tickets are often available. We have a good problem. Attendance, along with memberships, is increasing and we need more chairs to accommodate everyone. Glen will talk to Davis-Moore. Because questions have come up about spending limits and there are no records of including such things in a set of by-laws, we are going to write by-laws to our constitution as provided for in the constitution. In doing so, we will move some provisions in the constitution to the by-laws. There are no fundamental changes anticipated. We are simply moving things out of the constitution that should be in the by-laws and further clarifying other items. Examples are: Amount of club dues should be in the by-laws so that it does not require a constitutional vote to change the dues. The requirement for dues will remain in the constitution. Detailed job descriptions for officers will be placed in the by-laws, because these may need to be changed from time to time. Preston and Deb have volunteered to take on this task. The board has approved the purchase of a thumb drive for the secretary to store all club documents for retrieval and passing on to the new secretary. More will be presented as we go along. There will be a vote on the changes at the annual business meeting. Respectfully submitted, Preston Hughes, Secretary Page 4

Volume 50 - Issue 6 June, 2016 There was a lot of fun had in Texas at the Lone Star Corvette Show. Hundreds of beautiful corvettes, good meals, nice people, a special speaker, and special awards. Gary and I were lucky enough to have guest speaker and race car driver, Andy Pilgrim, choose our car for a special award. We also won the best in class award for our car. Join us next year for all the fun. Page 7
