Bike Games I m sitting here thinking it s a good day for writing a HOG article. Time takes me back to Bike Games, Slow Race, Egg Toss, Balloon Toss, Wiener Bite, and Board Ride. Slow Race: is when contestants line up side by side inside their designated lanes. When signaled they take off slow, whoever rides the longest time, and travels the shortest distance, without putting a foot down, or falling, wins the race. Egg Toss: Riders line up the same way; choose a passenger with a spoon in their mouth, an egg in the spoon, the first pair that crosses the finish line without dropping the egg wins. Balloon Toss: A cord is stretched across two posts. The object is to rides under the cord allowing the passenger time to toss a water filled balloon over the cord, driver s goal is to ride at proper speed, allowing passenger time to catch balloon when it come down on the other side of the cord. Spectator s job is to laugh when water filled balloons burst. Wiener Bite: A wiener usually dipped in mustard is tied to a string hanging from a tree branch. Driver rides slow enough allowing a passenger time to bite wiener without touching it with hands. Passenger with the longest piece of wiener wins contest. Board Ride: Rider Lines Bike up on a 2 X 6 board, when signaled, they ride down the board, a judge measures how far down the board each rider made it. Longest ride wins. Some clubs wet the board down. I was at a pig cooking; the Club greased the board down with grease from the pig, some bikes slid off before they started moving. I am not so sure some of those drivers hadn t been sipping the sauce, and I don t mean barbeque sauce. Speaking of board rides, when I haul my bike, I have to ride on three 2 X12 boards 33 inches high into the back of our ministry truck. Ever tried to ride a bike capable of producing one hundred forty five horsepower up three wet boards? On this mission trip, I was led by the Lord to haul it because of ice storm I was facing. I found an incline pulled the truck up it, secured boards to truck. Why, because I spun the boards from under bike back wheel once, but no need to go there. Getting back to unloading my bike, I put it in low gear, and unstrapped it, when rolling backwards too fast, I just ease out on clutch. That frees both feet to keep a six hundred some pound bike balanced on those boards. On this mission, I went in and spoke for a couple of hours, came out, the boards were iced over. I parked my bike, bowed my head and said what now God I can t leave my bike two hundred miles from home. A soft gentle voice said remove boards, turn truck facing down the incline, secure the boards to truck, line up bike with boards, switch it off, put it in low gear, keep both feet on boards, keep easing clutch in and out. A piece of cake, I must admit, I m glad the bike rack was designed with a V slot to fit bike s front wheel. You know, I wonder did God tell me how to avoid all those past crashes, and I didn t hear Him? Oh well, no ship sails on yesterday s wind. See you in the wind. Chaplain Webber
