FLY IT HIGH & PROUD IN REMEMBRANCE The Pittsburg Elks Lodge will be instituting a new program designed to recognize the loved ones of lodge members who have honorably served their country. We will proudly fly their burial flag. Donations of these family flags has already begun. Should you wish to donate your loved ones flag to fly once more please bring it to the lodge on your next visit and it will be entered in progression as received. Recognition of the donated flags and the service members will be displayed in the lodge foyer for the life of that flag. When the flag has flown and aged, it will be properly retired at the lodge's "Veterans Day Honors" in August by the "United States Army" or the "Boy Scouts of America. 2 Marianne Blau 6 Sal Romo 11 Ronald Vincent 21 Stanley Krotz 2 Dan Ramirez 7 Richard Ledesma 13 John Connelly 22 Carl Bartholomeu 3 Gerald Continente 8 Ann Di Maggio 13 Horace Joe Russo 22 Ralph Mattos 3 Joseph Coutermarsh 8 Richard Foltz 15 Joe Miyamoto 23 Rick Treat 3 Lynn Fogleman 8 Dave Robertson 17 Van De Piero 24 Rosemarie Di Maggio 4 Peggy Pierce 9 James Rogers 18 William Abitz 26 Joseph Siino 6 Fred Lorenzetti 10 Jack Harris 19 Virginia Listek 27 Carol Teiche 6 Arturo Rodriguez 11 Phillip Promessi 21 Luman Baldwin 28 Donald Morse 29 Ralph Keller This Month s History Tidbit William D. Boyce was a newspaper and magazine publisher from Chicago, Illinois. In 1909, during a trip to London he became lost in a dense fog. A boy came to his aid and, after guiding him, refused a tip, explaining that as a scout he would not take a tip for doing a good turn. This single act by an unknown scout impressed Boyce. He then sought out the founder of the Scout Program in London, Lord Robert Baden-Powell and learned about his scouting program. Boyce returned to the United States and on February 8, 1910, founded the Boy Scouts of America. Since then, more than 110 million Americans have been participants in BSA programs at some time! At this time of the lodge year the life blood of Elkdom becomes most important; that being MEMBERSHIP. Lapsation the dropping of a member from the role of membership. Why does this happen? Maybe it s because there s a Membership Gap. If it is, there s a way to bridge that Gap. It s the source of all of our activities. You, members, are the important ones; your suggestions, ideas, service and cooperation can, and will be, most helpful in the success of our lodge. So, let s bridge the Gap by asking someone to become a member of your lodge. Nomination of lodge officers and trustee for the lodge year 2019-2020 will be held at the regular scheduled meeting on February 7th. Nomination and elections will be held on February 21st. I m asking members to attend these meetings and consider placing their name for nomination as a lodge officer or a trustee. Be an active member!
