1981-2019 Volume 27 Issue 1 CHRISTMAS 2018 I didn't realize it until I looked at some of the pictures that most of our members are HAMS!! The Christmas Party was a SMASH!! Everyone that attended had a good time. Even through the messed up numbers, everyone came away with a smile, even Manual, who I m sure came away broke. When He was asked why, he said For the ADA Thanks to everyone there, the setting up, the decorating of the tree, the tearing down the cleaning up it all got done with a smile and enthusiasm. There were 21 attendees, and everyone was in a festive Mood. (thanks again) If you weren t able to attend, Maybe next Year? The order that the food was planned worked out well too. the American DRESSER

FROM THE PRESIDENTS DESK Well another year is almost at an end and with it another President (me) will be replaced. First of all I would like to thank Bev and Mike who make being a President one of the easiest jobs in the ADA. About the only thing Mike and Bev do not do is the website, which is done by Ron Castner. Actually except for pounding the gravel during Quarterly meetings, I can t remember doing much of anything. I am and always have been very good at not doing anything so I made a perfect President. Seriously, thanks so much to Ron, Mike and Bev for all they do for the ADA, and for all they will continue to do. Even though it is a sad note, I must mention the fact that we have lost a number of members this year to mother nature and I believe I speak for everyone wheni say they will all be missed. I would like each of you to take a minute to think not of those we will miss, but of the loved ones they left behind and that, like the members themselves, they are all in a way part of the ADA. I hope we continue to see some of those loved ones at breakfasts and other events. We had a great Grand Tour this year, and the one for next year is already on the drawing board. Thanks to Jon and Doc for getting next years framework already completed so hopefully most of us will be able to plan early to attend at least part of it. I realize it is not possible for all of us to do 2+ weeks of riding, but try to join if only for a few days. In the past, when I could not do the full ride, I have done the first week or so of the ride, and I have also joined the riders for the last few days, both were a lot of fun. The ADA had a number of really nice rides this year and let s hope that we will have even more next year. Thanks to everyone who attended a ride, an event, or (as in the case of family members who do not ride) supported those who did. Page 2 the American DRESSER

SUNDAY BREAKFAST WHERE OLD FRIENDS ARE NEVER FORGOTTEN, AND NEW FRIENDS ARE ALWAYS WELCOME! Our Sunday morning meeting spot is at Keno s, on the north-west corner of La Palma and Magnolia in Anaheim. If you haven t made it to breakfast in a while, come check us out. The room is new, the food is good (and hot), and the company is great!! There are usually some of us there, unless a planned ride takes us elsewhere. Breakfast officially starts at 8:00, but come early and enjoy the stories. We ve all noticed Manual coming around with his tank close behind, actually he is doing a lot better since his accident in last fall, with the help of his tank. He says he wants to get back on the bike soon, maybe even try out his new (to him) tryke he has sitting in his garage. Good to see you up and around, Manual, we all want you back in the group! CHRISTMAS PARTY DETAILS The Christmas Party white elephant sale brings in money and is the only fund raiser that we have throughout the year. This year we brought in $217.00. Our original white elephant has disappeared without a trace, so hopefully this year that will be rectified. It is a gift that is auctioned off. Whoever buys this will receive one free year of membership with the ADA, and one free breakfast, compliments of the ADA White Elephant Auction Sale. Also the 50/50 brought in $55.00, which Brought our charitable income by $27.00. With the charge of the hall, the drinks and the bartender, the Christmas Party was a success. WHEN YOU MEET UP WITH A VETERAN, DO YOU SHAKE THEIR HAND, DO YOU SAY THANKS FOR YOUR SERVICE? IF YOU ARE A VETERAN, THINK ABOUT HOW MUCH IT MEANS TO YOU WHEN SOMEONE RECOGNIZES YOU FOR GIVING YOURSELF TO OUR GREAT COUNTRY. HAVE YOU THOUGHT ABOUT BRINGING A NEW MEMBER INTO OUR ADA?? ALSO BE SURE TO LET US KNOW IF YOU ARE ILL OR WORSE, HAVE AN ACCIDENT WE ALL DO OUR BEST TO STAY HEALTHY AND DRIVE SAFELY I know you must have noticed that I didn't put a number in the December issue of the newsletter Well, I did this time hidden amongst the pages somewhere. GOOD LUCK If you happen to find your number, it means a free breakfast on Sunday morning for you. the American DRESSER Page 9

SAFE STOP RIDING TIPS MOTORCYCLE RIDING TIPS FOR 2019 Successful riders who are able to stay clear of accidents comes from following basic motorcycle safety practices. Looking cool is not always the top priority. No matter how hot it is outside, shorts, a T-shirt and sandals probably are not the proper riding attire. Even jeans provide minimal protection against road rash if you happen to slide. Extreme protection with leathers and boots, gllasses and goggles are a must with open faced helmets, and of course gloves. Make sure your chosen route or motorcycle is not more than you can handle. Your feet should be able to rest flat on the ground when seated. Check out your motorcycle before you leave, giving you an idea if there are any loose bolts, leaks, or other potential mechanical hazards. While our mirrors are there for a reason, making sure of what is in your riding space will give you that extra confident feeling. Err on the side of caution when going into curves; be aware of potential gravel or other road conditions. Even railroad tracks can be slippery, the same goes for white lines at stoplights. Always be aware of your state of mind when riding. Riding angry, drowsy, or distracted can be recipe for disaster. You are ultimately the only one looking out for you. If your mind is anywhere other than the road ahead, you are susceptible to end up in a crash. Passenger? Just make sure you are comfortable with a passenger and also make sure yourpassenger knows how to do their part to make the ride safe. Making sure your passenger has the right gear is smart and you ll feel at ease. DRESS FOR THE CRASH! Make sure that a quick stop won t result in tragedy, always give extra space to the vehicle and know how to stop-on-a-dime without locking your brakes. All of us at the ADA love to go on rides with our buddies and friends, and we all want to come back home in one piece. Take extra precaution when riding among heavy traffic, Have fun, make memories, and come back safe and sound. Page 10 the American DRESSER
