Some members took the opportunity to take to the air and demonstrate their skill. But much of the activity for the morning was around cutting out Chuckies. These are simple foam gliders design by Marty Schrader that we have been using as promotional items to help encourage interest in model flying. We have been looking for ways to increase our club s visibility as well as interest in RC modelling. We believe Chucky will help us along! We managed to cut out about 60 planes with the goal being 150-200 in preparation for our help at the upcoming Maywood Sportsman s Club picnic. Thanks to the members that help cutting kits at the Fun Fly!

Let's Get Involved! By Marty Schrader There is an event coming up very soon that will require club members to participate: the Maywood Sportsmens' Club picnic in July. This event will have a youth presence that could stand some exposure to what we do. We can make Chucky glider kits and tag them with SRCB stickers or ink them with a stamp. This gets us some publicity simply through our name being read every time a kid picks up and tosses one of these gliders. To prepare for the cutting party members should take a look at the Chucky template (PDF) and read the Chucky build instructions (PDF). Be prepared to lay out parts, cut them out, and do some minor trimming and finishing of the raw parts. The Sportsmens' Club picnic has a potential for 150 kids to show up. We need to do a complete presentation (including flying demo) to be performed twice during the day, and a lot of SRCB member support to make the event successful. However, this event has a great potential for exposure to a crowd that might take an interest in our hobby. The Sportsmens' Club is providing tents, tables, and chairs for us both at our presentation and build booth as well as at the flying field, about a 1.5 minute walk away. We will have grills available to make food at the event. Keep in mind that the only people flying out at the Sportsmen's Club picnic are those folks working the event. We need to keep our presence down to about six members, so if you are interested in participating at the picnic contact Marty Schrader or president Hector Rivera.
