Compared to the same date range in 2010, the sector experienced 9 violent crimes. The comparison reflects a 100% decrease. The total number of property crimes reported was 55. In comparison to the same date range in 2010, 68 property crimes were documented. The comparison reveals a 19% decrease in property crimes. As the hot weather approaches and each of you seek to enjoy the parks, please remember to remove personal belonging from your vehicle and place them in the trunk. Also, be cautious of individuals soliciting, offering to do yard work or home improvements. Continue to be cognizant of suspicious activity in your neighborhood, and don t hesitate to report what you observe to the police. Third Precinct - Sector 311 Neighborhood Watch Startup Guide Page 6 An Active neighborhood Watch Helps To: Prevent crime in the area. Promote awareness of crime and safety. Warn criminals that they will be seen. Access crime statistics. Promote a sense of community in the neighborhood. Benefits From a Community Based neighborhood Watch Program: A reduction in crime in the community. Neighborhood Watch signs deter criminals. Provides news about the community. Provides a direct contact with the police. Police receive information about the neighborhood. Neighbors get to know each other. To get started, it takes one motivated individual, concerned citizens and the police. Contact your neighbors and see if there is an interest in the community for a program. Hold a meeting to identify issues and concerns that affect the whole community. At the same time select a coordinator and those who would like to volunteer to be block captains.
