Midland went 11-for-21 with men in scoring position and featured six players who boasted a multi-hit performance. Matt Chapman led the charge, going 4-for-5 with three doubles and four RBIs. All but three starters drove in runs for the home team. Corpus Christi was the first to score Tuesday night. Garrett Stubbs hit a lead-off single and moved to second on a Joel Seddon wild pitch. Stubbs promptly advanced to third via a ground ball, and then came home when Seddon uncorked another wild one. Seddon settled down and, at one point, retired 11 in a row. The Hooks got to him for another run in the seventh. Danry Vasquez worked a walk but was quickly erased on a double play. James Ramsay, Nick Tanielu and Stubbs followed with singles for Corpus Christi s final run. Cy Sneed absorbed the loss for the Hooks, failing to record an out in the second. In their first two turns at bat, the Hounds notched 10 runs on nine hits (five doubles) and four walks. The final two tallies were charged to Gonzalo Sanudo. Eric Peterson retired the first six men he faced before allowing three unearned runs in the sixth. Lefty Albert Minnis worked the final two frames. PAGE 2 SAVE THE STREAK!: The Hooks, hunting for a series split, have not lost a road series since last season, July 15-18 at Frisco s Dr Pepper Ballpark. Corpus Christi owns the best road record in Minor League Baseball at 35-15, resulting in a.700 winning percentage. The Hooks have won 11 of 13 sets away from Whataburger Field this year, splitting 2. PROUD PAPA: Alejandro Garcia, who rejoined the club yesterday, has been activated in advance of tonight s game. Garcia departed for Tampa, FL, last Friday to meet his newborn son, Bryan Alejandro. Garcia is batting.289 with 5 doubles, 1 home run and 14 RBIs in 32 games for Corpus Christi. The Cuban native has hit safely in 8 of his last 10 contests. MOUND MISGIVINGS: Midland s output last night matches the most runs (14) and hits (17) allowed by Corpus Christi this season. The Hooks have yielded 14 runs 3 times this year, and all of those setbacks have occurred in July (5th vs. Tulsa & 8th at Springfield). For the month, Corpus Christi pitchers own a 6.15 ERA and.300 batting average against. The staff features a 2.02 K-to-BB ratio and 6.4 K-per-9 IP rate while surrendering 18 home runs. The club stands 8-10 in July. By comparison, Hooks pitchers performed at a remarkable level in June, logging a 2.17 ERA and.226 BAA. Corpus Christi hurlers averaged 8.2 strikeouts per 9.0 IP and 3.8 Ks-per BB, permitting just 7 home runs. The Hooks went 21-6 in June. MEAN MARGINS: The RockHound s 14-2 victory resulted in the 2nd-highest margin of defeat for Corpus Christi this year. Tuesday night s outcome was topped May 5 when the Hounds used a 17-hit attack to blank the Hooks 13-0 here at Security Bank Ballpark. In Corpus Christi s 12-year tenure, the Hooks have lost by a 12 or more runs on 16 occasions, and 7 of those lopsided losses have come courtesy of Midland.
