(GSU Sports Arena) Pink Out Breast Cancer Awareness Game This will be the 14th meeting all-time, all as CAA members. GSU leads, 7-6. The teams split last year s series. GEORGIA STATE ON THE AIR Radio: WRAS-FM (88.5.wras.org stream): Stephen Pittard is in his first year as play-byplay voice of the Panthers on the 100,000- watt GSU station. He is joined by former Panther Kelcey Roegiers-Jensen. Internet: Live stats at GeorgiaStateSports.com Georgia State returns to Atlanta after playing three of the last four on the road to face a pair to CAA teams at the top of the standings. The Panthers will first tangle with UNCW, the fourth place team fighting for one of the first-day tournament byes, who has won six of its last seven games, bowing only to Delaware. The Seahawks are 7-4 in CAA play and tied with Drexel in fourth, one game behind a pair of teams at 8-3. Then, on Sunday, it is first-place Delaware. GSU picked up a win last week at home vs. Northeastern, 81-74, and almost pulled off a road win at Towson, but lost in overtime, 63-59. The Panthers and Seahawks split the games last season, with each winning on their home court. GSU surprised UNCW in Atlanta, 76-67, on Feb. 6 when UNCW was 17-4 and tied for first place. The young Panthers five-member freshmen class has seen extensive time, playing 1,411 combined minutes as the youngsters learn to adjust to the college game. Two of those freshmen have been CAA Rookies of the Week this year (Alana Beroth and Miranda Smith). GSU has just one senior, forward Chan Harris, who averages 10.3 points and 8.1 rebounds to go with 36 blocked shots. Sophomore guard Kendra Long is the team s leading scorer (11.4), meaning many games GSU has started three freshmen and a sophomore. Twelve different players have started this season and no player has started every game. Eleven have played 180 or more minutes. Georgia State s 7-15 record has seen the Panthers already play eight top 50 RPI teams (0-8) and 10 top 100 teams (0-11) this season. That schedule would be challenging for a veteran team and is much more so with the young team. This week s games will add to that challenge as UNCW comes in at No. 72 in the RPI and Delaware is No. 12 in the AP poll and No. 6 in RPI. The teams compete in the CAA (Colonial Athletic Association). The Panthers have just one senior (Chan Harris) and are working five freshmen and two transfers into the mix this season. A GLANCE AT UNCW The Seahawks from Wilmington have an enrollment of more than 13,000 students. Wilmington, almost on the Atlantic Ocean, is a little over 400 miles from Atlanta and the southernmost CAA school next to Atlanta. Like many schools, UNCW has players with ties to Atlanta. Leading scorer, sophomore guard, Alisha Andrews, hails from Stone Mountain and Redan High School. Sophomore Abria Trice played at Dutchtown High School south of Atlanta in Hampton. Karaneshia Garrett s home is just a few hours away in Hoover, Ala.. Coach Cynthia Cooper-Dyke came to UNCW from her head coaching spot at Priarie View for five years. Cooper-Dyke starred at Southern Cal, leading the team to a pair of NCAA titles. She won gold with the 88 U.S. Olympic team and was on the 92 bronze team. She led the WNBA in scoring three times. UNCW challenges teams on defense and averages 10.5 steals per game, second in the CAA, while also forcing 19 turnovers a contest. UNCW has developed into a three-point team, knocking down 121, third most in the CAA. Andrews, a Spud Webb/Mugsy Bogues, small-size, big-game star, averages 12.3 points a game, 4.8 assists (105) and has made 35 three-point shots. A pair of junior college transfers and teammates have stepped into leading roles. Tawanna Lee, a guard, adds 9.8 points, 34 three-pointers and 77 assists. Karneshia Garrett, a 6-2 post player, scores 9.5 points and grabs 7.4 rebounds. Abria Trice adds another 9.1 points to the offense. The Panthers return the game with a trip to North Carolina on Leap Year Day, Feb. 29. FEELING REJECTED- THe SwAT TEAM GSU leads the CAA and has blocked 115 shots in the 22 games (5.2 per game) with The Swat Team of Harris and Paul accounting for 74 of those 115 rejections. The 5.2 blocks per game ranks No. 22 in the NCAA this season. Last year, Georgia State finished No. 33 in the NCAA last season in blocked shots with 144 (4.6 per game). That Swat Team was led by 6-foot-3 Cody Paulk (56) and 6-foot-2 Chan Harris (49) as they combined for 105 of those rejections. Only two other duos in school history had ever combined for 100 blocks before. Harris has swatted away 127 shots in her career (36 this year) and junior Paulk has rejected 115 opponent attempts (38 this season). Only four players in GSU history had reached 100 blocked shots, with Harris becoming the fifth earlier this season and Paulk the sixth. GSU s BEST SHOT-BLOCKING TANDEMS 1. Cody Paulk (56) and Chan Harris (49) - 2010-11 105 2. Vatai Smith (57) and Marcquitta Head (46) - 2005-06 103 3. Angela Gresham (48) and Vickie Grant (44) - 1986-87 92 This Year (22 g) - Chan Harris (36) Cody Paulk (38) 74 CAA SEASON Passes half-way point GSU will finish with four of the final seven games at home, but the first two this week are ultra-tough with UNCW and Delaware. The Panthers spend next week on the road at Northeastern and George Mason. GSU plays an 18-game CAA slate, nine home and nine away. The CAA play leads up to the CAA Championship in metro Washington, D.C. (Upper Marlboro, Md.) from March 8-11.

Coach SHARON BALDWIN-TENER Sharon Baldwin-Tener, named GSU s head coach in April of 2010, has known how to win as both a collegiate player and collegiate coach. In her first season, GSU continued to improve as the season went along, defeating the team in the CAA Championship that had beaten them by 24 points in the first CAA of her tenure.the team had the first three-game win streak in their short CAA history during a stretch in February, while also defeating two CAA teams who had been ranked in the Mid-Major Top 25 poll, She picked up her 200th career win as a head coach on Dec. 29 vs. Mississippi Valley State (91-65) and guided GSU to the 500th all-time win in school history on Jan. 9 in a win over Hofstra (84-70) In eight years, she turned the East Carolina women s basketball program around, winning 126 games, while earning postseason bids to the NCAA and WNIT tournaments. The Lady Pirates of ECU won the C-USA Tournament in 2007. Atlanta is a homecoming for Baldwin-Tener as she played her prep ball in Smyrna and her college ball at both Kennesaw State and the University of Georgia. She was an assistant coach at Georgia and a head coach at Life University in Marietta Those eight years at ECU followed her 2001-02 season as the Atlantic Sun Conference Coach of the Year honor in her only season at Mercer University in Macon. She first gained notice as the NAIA National Coach of the Year at Life University, where she began that program with a final No. 7 ranking in its first year and produced a team ranked No.1 in the national polls in her second season (2001). Her assistant coaching career was highlighted by being named the Naismith National Assistant Coach of the Year (1997) while she was in her seventh and final year at the University of Georgia under head coach Andy Landers. Baldwin-Tener enjoyed a successful playing career at both the high school and collegiate levels. At Wills High School (merged with Campbell High) in Smyrna, Ga., she averaged 21 points per contest as a senior and was named the 1985 Georgia Class 4A State Player-of-the-Year. Baldwin-Tener earned a bachelor s degree from Georgia in 1991 and completed her master s of education in 1997, also at Georgia. She and her husband, Matt, have two children: Luke (7, Feb. 4, 2004) and Samantha (6, Oct. 28. 2005). Starter Kendra Long just turned 20 (Nov. 14) to join starting center Cody Paulk, who turned 20 in June. Freshman Miranda Smith is 18 (April 11, 1993) with freshmen Brittany Johnson (July 6, 1992) and starter Alana Beroth (April 3, 1992) both 19 years young. The old lady of the lineup this year is Chan Harris, in her fifth year, who turned 22 on July 12. Forward Tiffany Anderson celebrated her 21st birthday Dec. 6 and guard Jerlisa Taylor turned 21 Dec. 27. Four of the Panthers five freshmen have started this year. SLIPPERY HANDS GSU has trouble taking care of the basketball, wasting valuable possessions. The Panthers have committed 455 turnovers, an average 20.7 per game, to rank in the bottom 10% in the NCAA. The stats show that only 232 of those were steals by the opponents (51%), meaning the other 223 were caused by the Panthers themselves not taking care of the basic passing and dribbling. CLEANING THE GLASS The Panthers are averaging 41.1 rebounds per game (No. 5 CAA) this season, topped by 55 rebounds vs. Appalachian State, 52 vs. Hofstra, 50 vs. Jacksonville State and Towson. GSU had 28 offensive rebounds in that game alone vs. Appalachian State. The team has 328 offensive rebounds this year (14.8 per game, No. 6 CAA). Georgia State averaged 40.5 rebounds per game last year, fourth in the CAA. They had a +2.5 rebound advantage for the season to rank No. 87 in the NCAA final stats. BANG-BANG GSU guard Kendra Long acquired that nickname for her ability to quickly knock down shots from anywhere on the basketball court. Long first signed an NLI with Georgia Tech, but was released from that and joined Georgia State after Coach Baldwin-Tener arrived. So far in just 53 games at GSU, she has gone bang-bang with 101 three-point baskets, averaging almost two per game. She passed the 100-career mark at Towson on Feb. 5 to become the sixth Panther to top 100 made. She hit the target from three-point range five times in four games last year and went bang bang four times against Florida State and Western Carolina this year. Long was a 1,000-point scorer (reaching that figure on a three-point shot, naturally) in high school with a top game of 42 points. The sharpshooter was named MVP of the Georgia- Florida All-Star game. At GSU, Long s best so far was a 21-point night last year vs. Old Dominion and then a 20-point game in the win over Campbell on Nov. 25. She had 19 vs. Northeastern. Long has made 5 treys in a game at GSU four times with this year s best being four-of-eight at Florida State and four-ofseven at WCU.

Tech, following the posting of final first semester grades. The 6-foot-3 post player was recruited by Baldwin-Tener to East Carolina and had transferred to Georgia State for the second semester last year. She had her first double-figure game with 10 points, 6 rebounds in 17 minutes in the win over High Point in just her second college game. She started her first game vs. Bethune-Cookman on Jan. 2 (5 pts, 4 reb., 1 block). She had a career-best 15 points on 7-7 FG vs. Old Dominion (1-19-12) and a career-high 4 blocked shots in that game in 21 minutes. She netted her second double-double at JMU (11 pts, 11 reb.) in 24 min. Missed two games after a concussion at JMU HARRIS JOINS ELITE STAT CLUBS Senior forward Chan Harris has achieved several milestones in her career. Harris became the 20th in GSU history to score 1,000 points (her third basket Feb. 2 vs. Northeastern) and has 1,018 now. Harris has 728 rebounds, becoming just the 12th in school history to pull down 700 rebounds. The forward has 127 blocks, leap frogging into third place all-time in Panther history. She needs 1 to move into second place. She has produced 23 career double-double games and became the 7th to ever have 20 with her double-double vs. ODU on Jan. 19. Harris has played in 118 games at GSU, cracking the top 10 list of all-time games played in 6th place. The school best is 121 games by Evita Rogers. She tied Kelcey Roegiers-Jensen with 118 in 6th on Sunday at Towson. CLASSROOM SUCCESS The Panthers had an excellent summer in the classrooms, posting a combined 3.35 GPA. Five members of the team had posted GPA s of 3.2 or better during last spring s semester that included basketball season. The recently completed fall semester saw seven Panthers shine in the classroom. Nicole Hargraves made the Dean s List with a GPA over 3.5. Six more players made the A.D. Honor Roll with a GPA above 3.2: Alana Beroth, Brittany Johnson, Kayla Nolan, Cody Paulk, Victoria Smith and Ashley Watson. THREE-PEAT Freshman Kendra Long ranked No. 6 in the CAA last year with her 57 made three-point baskets. She is No. 7 this year (44 made) and No. 11 in three-point percentage (.336). She made at least one trey in 25 of her 31 freshmen-year games and had five makes in a game three different times. She s made a trey in 46 of her 53 GSU games. With 101 career, she has become the 6th to ever make 100 career. IT TAKES A THIEF GSU has 222 steals in 22 games this year (10.1, No. 4 in CAA, No. 81 NCAA), a stat usually indicative of the team s success. Oddly enough, this year s season low for steals was the 7 steals in the win over Campbell. Georgia State gets started with its pick-pockets and shot blocks. The Panthers averaged 10 steals a game last year (311 on the season) to rank No. 62 in the NCAA. The 144 blocks don t count as steals, but serve about the same purpose in getting the transition game going. It had 12 steals in the opener. The Panthers rely on everyone on the court getting steals, evident by the fact the seven players had 25 or more steals last year; nine different players have double figure steals in 2011-12. STEPPING UP, KNOCKING EM DOWN The team hasd improved its free throw shooting after a.722 day vs. Towson and a.733 evening Thursday vs. Northeastern, but had a relapse Sunday at Towson and went just 7-of-14, costing themselves a win. Ashley Watson leads at 75% (24-32) with Jerlisa Taylor close behind at 71.4% (35-49). Chan Harris has made 22 of her last 29 (75.9%) over 8 games and Cody Paulk has made 15 of her last 20 (75%).

SwattinG THEIR WAY UP THE SCHOOL ALL-TIME LIST Only four previous players in GSU women s basketball history had blocked 100 or more shots in their career. This season, two more have joined that exclusive list. Senior Chan Harris has reached the 125-plateau and will become second in school history, while junior Cody Paulk has blocked 115 shots, as she has a chance to challenge the all-time record next year. Paulk and Harris had the third and fifth best single season totals for blocks 100 Blocked Shots Player...Season Blks 1. Rhian Jones...1992-96 166 2. Angela Gresham...1984-89 127 2. ROSTER BREAKDOWNS Georgia State s 2011-12 roster includes players from seven different states, plus one international student. Six of the 13 players hail from the state of Georgia, while two come from North Carolina. GSU has one player each from Alabama, California, Indiana, South Carolina and Virginia. One player came to GSU from Australia. Of the six from Georgia, four are from metro Atlanta (Long, Mays HS; Means, Mays HS; Nolan, Duluth HS: Taylor, Douglas County HS). This year s roster includes just one senior (Harris). The 2011-12 roster has five junors (Anderson, Hargraves, Means, Paulk, Taylor). There are two sophomores (Long, V. Smith) and five freshmen (Beroth, Johnson, Nolan, M. Smith, Watson). GAME-BY-GAME STARTING LINEUPS...G G G F C Arizona... Taylor Long Means Harris Paulk at Florida State... Taylor Long M. Through the 22 games, 12 different players have started a game and 11 players have logged 180 or more minutes.; 12 players have logged 100 or more. Nine different players have led the team in scoring in a game this year: Chan Harris, Kendra Long, Sade Means, Kayla Nolan, Tiffany Anderson, Jerlisa Taylor, Nicole Hargraves, Miranda Smith and Alana Beroth. Five different players have led the team in rebounding in a game this year: Alana Beroth, Chan Harris, Kendra Long, Cody Paulk and Tiffany Anderson. THAT S DIFFERENT Here s a streak that had to end real soon, but it is a little different. Georgia State had been led in scoring by a different player for 7 consecutive games and 9 different players on the season. Four of those inen were not starters. Starting on Dec. 16, this streak was almost a month long, but finally ended at Hofstra when Long led again. That list, starting with Tech had included Jerlisa Taylor, Sade Means, Chan Harris, Kendra Long, Tiffany Anderson, Nicole Hargraves and Miranda Smith. 100 three-point BASKETS Player...
