Columnist: Darrel Trexler Happy New Year! Notes from the Board Your Continental Dance Club extends a heartfelt greeting to everyone, wishing you a wonderful 2017 with good health and much happiness. After serving five years on your board, I am joining the majority as just another happy dancer. It has been an honor to serve you in this capacity. I will continue to help the CDC in other ways as needed and/or asked. The good news is you are in very good hands with the slate of new and returning board members. On December 4th you elected two board members, Susan (Susie) Stewart and David (Dave) Hinderliter. Susie is new to the board. Dave has been serving on the board, completing the term of Barbara Schmidlin. Board members serving the second year of their term include Diane Rice, Carol Kussmann, Ben Davis and Aina Clayton. Two additional members have agreed to serve on the board and were present at our December board meeting. They will be appointed by your new President at the January board meeting. Watch for this announcement. At our December board meeting, we elected officers for the year 2017. They are: Dave Hinderliter, President; Ben Davis, Vice President; Carol Kussmann, Secretary; and Diane Rice, Treasurer. Carol and Diane have been serving in their respective capacities so their duties will continue. New leaders usually result in new fresh ideas and that is a good thing. No doubt there will probably be some changes, but you can be sure they will be positive changes for our club. I have total confidence in our new leadership and pledge my full cooperation and support. Please join with me in welcoming them. Darrel Trexler outgoing Vice President P.S.: See you on the dance floor. page 2

Dance Instruction January From our Dance Instructor Chairman Ben Davis The Continental Dance Club is pleased to welcome Olga Cansino as our January dance instructor. American Waltz is the featured lesson. Olga began studying ballroom dancing at the age of 17 at the prestigious Moscow State University in Russia. While in Russia, she competed in International Style Ballroom dance. Olga began teaching dance lessons at the age of 20. In 1998, Olga moved to the US, and continued teaching dance lessons while attending Penn State. In 2003, Olga moved to Indiana, and began working as a dance instructor at Five Star Studios. Between 2005 and 2010, Olga was a dance instructor and co-owner of Simple Ballroom. She became a co-founder of Dance Factor Club in 2011. She currently teaches group and private ballroom dance lessons for beginning and intermediate levels, for both children and adults at Carmel Dance Studio, Monon Community Center and at Parks and Recreation Departments in Fishers, Westfield and Carmel areas. Olga specializes in both American and International style social dancing and in Formation dancing. She is also proficient in Cabaret Style dancing. Beginner American Waltz lessons will also be taught in the small ballroom by our club volunteers. Our members choose to volunteer because of their love for dancing. We thank our last month s professional instructor, Gert Roslender, for teaching Quick Step, as well as our volunteers who taught the beginners. Please invite your friends to come and learn to dance or to join us in learning some new dance steps. Both beginning and intermediate dance lessons are available only WITH paid admission to the dance. Please, no video recording of the lesson without permission of the instructor. CDC News and Announcements Please be courteous during our club announcements. Refrain from talking while the person making announcements is at the microphone. We make every effort to keep announcements brief and informative and most members and guests would like to be able to hear them. Thank you! Do you own a business? Consider running an ad in our newsletter or talk to a friend who might be interested in running an ad. Our newsletter reaches more than 300 people and the rates are quite reasonable. Substantial savings in monthly rates can be realized by running an ad for six months or a year. Your ad does not need to be copy ready. We will work with you. Please contact Darrel Trexler at 317-722-0133 or brdancer47@att.net. DANCES IN THE AREA For the most accurate information on these dances check the dance group web page.
