Box 37724 Shreveport, LA 71133 F RO M TH E PRESIDENT S DESK March officially started the Car Show Season with the downtown Marshall Cruise-in starting a month early, taking place March 9th. Since we received the word just after the March meeting, we were unable to get a group together to go, but a few members did manage to get there and it sounds like North Washington was packed up to US 80 with cars, and a few of our club members walked away with some cool door prizes. I was able to attend the Vivian Red Bud Festival Car Show along with several other club members on March 16th. We decided this year to participate in the car show rather than in the parade, and the consensus was that everyone had a much better time watching the parade go by at the car show site rather than throwing in the parade. We ended up with 10 cars at the show, with Charlie Patrick putting 2 of his mustangs in making up the total. I managed to win 2nd place in my class, along with several club members getting some great door prizes. Everyone had such a great time that we will definitely return next year. The show organizers have decided to break up the classes better to try to even out the playing field. They had over 60 cars which was pretty good for only the second show. It was a nice change to just hang out and clean cars, visit with people, and enjoy the parade from the sidelines. March 23rd was the Mopar Nationals car show at First Baptist Church on Ockley Drive. Every year, Mopar sends over some members to our show to help judge cars, so we returned the favor by helping judge their show. I was joined by 6 other mustang club members, and even the new Corvette Club founded by Stuart Dubin had about 4 guys come out to judge. This year I was thankful to get a different class to judge rather than the late model Challenger class. Even though it was cloudy, windy and cold, the rain held off for most of the day, and we were still able to have a good time judging and at the same time learning some interesting things about Mopar cars. Thanks for all who came out to judge the show, and Mopar was glad to have us, making the judging process go quicker since they were able to have more judging teams. This Month, we will be getting a group together to go to downtown Marshall for the Cruise-in, and Asbury Motor club and the Breakfast and Fast Rides starts up again for the year. We are also planning a trip to the Track in May, and I have invited Mopar and the Southern Nights Corvette Club to join us, so look for more info coming up. It should be an interesting trip to the Track in May. See y all out there! Thomas Monahan President, RRCMC
Page 2 The Pony Express M CA NEWS The show season is starting. Hope everyone is getting ready. Hopefully the pine pollen will be soon gone. My car has been looking like a piece of dull mustard. Maybe we can send word to Beaumont and ask that all pine trees be gone. Nice thought. I will not be at the meeting this month for I'll be in Dallas at the MCA board of directors meeting. I'm hoping that finally we'll have definite news on the 50th celebration. Keep your fingers crossed. Even still, please start to get your plans made. You can always start making a to-go list of things needed. Maybe you have a tech tip that works well for you and you'd like to pass it along to others. For those who are going to the MCA National Show in Beaumont, we will be meeting at the Home Depot at I-49 and Burt Kouns at 7:30 and leave by 8:00. For those who have not registered and would still like to go, I have received word that you can register at the show. So if you want to join us, please come one, come all. The Pony Express Page 3 S H OW NEWS Our Show this year will be on Saturday, September 21. I am working on getting vendors lined up, have magazine article/ads in the works, and beg letters too! What I really need at this point, actually, what the Club RE- ALLY needs are Sponsors. It is with the support of our sponsors we are able to pay the expenses of the show and still have enough profit to buy all the Christmas gifts we donate to the foster care program every year. I would like everyone to please pick up a copy of the Club Sponsor letter (you can find one on RRCMC.com) and try to sign up at least one sponsor. A sponsor can be anyone or any business not just car related! The Club needs everyone s help to make this year s Show an even bigger success than previous years. Feel free to email me at RRCMC.ShowDirector@yahoo.com with any questions, comments, concerns, ideas you may have.
