January 2018 December was a fast Commanders paced month Corner for everyone. We all stayed busy but focused on our mission, From the goals desk of and the Commander objectives. Hardin We closed Post 113 out the year with parties, volunteering, WWII / Korean Veteran Lunch and our New Year s Eve celebration with the Bar Nuns. All of this could not have happened without our dedicated management team, employee staff and all of the volunteers who made the month memorable for all! Welcome 2018! Like a great suspense novel, we closed one chapter and opened another. Last year was filled with lots of surprises and excitement, making one wonder...what's in store for us this year? We have already established a nomination committee in preparation for nominating Post officers for 2018/2019. I have had two very rewarding years as commander and look forward to passing the reins over to the next commander of our post. Please consider running for office and put your own mark on the wall. This year we will hit the ground running with our January 4 th Joint Membership meeting. At the meeting we will officially become debt free and make our last loan payment! Our financial stability is attributed to every one of our legion families' hard work and support! I look forward to seeing everyone at the meeting. Starting on January 22 d, Monday nights at the legion will offer Pictionary in the lounge. Come out and have a good time! As a reminder, the Department of Kentucky American Legion Conference will be January 26-27, 2018, at Crowne Plaza, Louisville. It's been a long time coming so mark your calendars...the post will host a free Vietnam Veteran Welcome Home Dinner March 29 th (details pending). Please check the calendar and Facebook for fun events happening at OUR Post. NOTE: the new card reader will be installed on the member's lounge door January 2 nd. The only key card that will work on the door will be the ORANGE key card. Therefore, if you have not renewed your dues for 2018 or have not picked up a new door card (orange) stop by and see the bartender. Wishing you a prosperous New Year! John S. Saunders, Commander 1 James Carroll Leonard Hobbs Frank Frederick Willard Daugherty William Compton Dean Florek Melvin Loveday Robert Beam It always seems impossible until it's done. - Nelson Mandela Auxiliary Unit 113 From the desk of the President Auxiliary Unit HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! It is a new beginning and we look forward to the future while reflecting on our past. May 2018 be happy, healthy and prosperous year for all! As members of the Legion family, let s continue our efforts to support veterans, their families and their community. We accomplished lots of amazing things in 2017 raising awareness of the American Legion, the American Legion Auxiliary, the Sons of the American Legion and the American Legion Riders while showing how dedicated we are to our veterans. Reflect back on how we made a difference in the lives of others while looking to our future endeavors of helping veterans, their families and their community. Step up and volunteer to help! ALA Hardin Unit 113 needs you, its volunteers who make a difference! Thank you to everyone who helped to make every event in December a wonderful success. The smiles on children s faces at Breakfast with Santa were so rewarding! Our food drive was a success helping many children throughout Hardin County. Children of deployed service members were given GI Josh Dogs providing some comfort while their parent is away. I know lots of volunteers worked at many events decorating, cooking, serving, and doing whatever else was needed. Thank you for making it all happen in the spirit of service others. Diane Kennedy, President ALA

We've done amazing things for our community this past year and it's all thanks to the work our Legion riders did to make it happen. Thank you! With the coming of the New Year it's time to switch gears, horrible pun intended, and get ready for the riding season. On January 21st at 1pm we're going to be meeting to go over the ride calendar. If you have any destinations, activities, or even types of rides that you would like to get put on the calendar we would love to hear from you. We had great fun throughout the year with our events like our Chili Cook-off, Jimmy Buffett Cheeseburger Night, and our Halloween Party. We donated money for repairs to our Legion Home. We donated money to Boys State, Girls State, Boy Scouts of America, SAL Jason Foster Fund and other entities in our community. 5 Chaplains Corner Walk in Faith Colossians 2:6-7; As you, therefore, have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, having been firmly rooted and now being built up in Him and established in your FAITH, just as you were instructed. Faith defined: Faith is believing that God will do as He has promised. Faith is not a power. It s not something we are supposed to drum up inside ourselves. Faith is trusting that God will honor His promises. That is all there is to it. Our part in the faith process is fairly simple. We are to go about our lives - making decisions, handling crises, raising our families, and so on - as if God is going to do what He said He would do. That is what it means to walk by faith. Please pray for: Jane Gray / Dave Hayes / Ron Atkinson / Jeff Hall / Herb Ritchie / Jonah Grogan / Gary Dalton / Wayne Ray / Charlotte VanKirk / Mary Archambault / Chris Barnes / Gary Daniel / Charlie Welch Please feel free to contact Post 113 Chaplain Randy, for prayer needs and also to share our legion blessings: Contact him @ 270 300-7288 Send an email to: james.crank@twc.com Pictionary Begins at the Legion 6pm on Monday, January 22d! A prize will be awarded to the winning team! Object of the game: Sketch your way to the top! Game begins at 6pm and ends at 8pm. The team with the most points wins. Set up: Before the game starts the color of the category will be selected. Shuffle the cards and place it in the card box. The cards will be divided into teams of two or more players. How to Play: The first card is selected. When the Picturist has seen the word, they can tell their team if it's a phrase, object etc. The timer of one minute is turned over and they begin to sketch. The Picturists: Team members take turns being the picturist. Each time your team sketches a word or phrase a point will be awarded. A new Picturist must sketch. Note: Periodically bonus cards of difficulty will be selected to receive 2 points. In the event of a tie a coin will be flipped between each team to decide who draws a final sketch. Whichever team guesses correctly wins the game. This continues till we have a winner. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Do s and Don ts: YOU CAN: Draw anything related to the word.
