As the 4-H year comes to an end, I would like to remind everyone that now is the time of year to complete record books and start recruiting for the 2014-15 4- H year. I encourage each current 4-H member to invite one non 4-H member to your club meeting in September or October to check out what 4-H has to offer and encourage them to join 4-H completing and returning an enrollment form to the Extension Office by December 1. Congratulations to adult winner Nicole Miller, Hawkeye. She received a $50 meat certificate from Fagle View Meats and a $50 gas card from All Stop. Youth winner Austin Miller, Hawkeye also received $100 worth of gift certificate ($25 from McJ's, $25 from Norby's, $25 from Alco, $10 from Subway & $15 West Union Chamber Bucks). FAYETTE COUNTY 4-H HALL OF FAME RECIPIENTS Don Bahe of rural Stanley, was a Fayette County 4-H member from 1954-1963 has been a great supporter and contributor to the Fayette County 4-H program and to Fayette County Extension. Don was the Scott Hot Shots club leader from1994 to 2002, earning an Award of the Clover in 1998. He served on the Fayette County 4-H & Youth Committee from 1998-2002. Don served on the Fayette County Extension Council from 1980-1983. He returned to the Extension Council in 2003 and has remained on the Council since, serving as chairman since 2011. Don has been involved with the Fayette County 4-H Foundation since its inception in 2002, currently serving as chairman. Four years ago, members of the Foundation Board introduced a charity golf tournament to Fayette County which annually raises funds for the Fayette County permanent endowment. Don and his wife Deb have three children - Joe, Ann, and Dan - and five grandchildren. All three children were nineyear Fayette County 4-H members exhibiting livestock and non-livestock at the county and state level. During that time you would also see Don assisting in the show ring or wherever needed. Don is a Fayette County crop farmer. He sells DeKalb and Asgrow seed. In his spare time he enjoys spending time with his family, traveling, golfing and flying his airplane. THIS & THAT IT S ENROLLMENT TIME! It s that time of year when families must complete the re-enrollment process to remain 4-H members. Please visit https://ia.4honline.com/login.aspx and complete the process as you did last year. This process is for returning members. New members must complete a paper enrollment form. As a returning member you do not set up a new profile as your profile is already in place. Please give Judy a call at the Extension Office with any questions. FLORAL HALL FUNDRAISER A pancake and sausage breakfast will be held on Sunday, September 21 with serving from 9 am-1 pm in the Dance Pavilion at the Fayette County Fairgrounds. This is a free will donation with proceeds used to repair floral hall. Continue to watch newsletters for upcoming events at the fairgrounds. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED The 1 st annual Turkey Trot 5k will be held on Thursday, November 27 with registration at 7 am and race start time 8 am. Prizes will be awarded to male & female based on age division and best overall male/female. Registration and sponsorship information is available by contacting a fair board member or calling Gina Niewoehner at 563-380 -7966 or emailing her at bradgina@netins.net. If you are interested in volunteering or would be willing to help with the event. CITIZENSHIP KICKOFF MEETING A Kick off meeting to Citizenship program year 1 will be held on Sunday, September 14 from 7-8:30 pm at the Extension Office in Fayette. All youth currently in 7 th thru 12 th grade are encouraged to come and learn more about the 2 year project commitment as we participate in local level citizenship education and a trip, in March 2015, to the Iowa State Capital in Des Moines. FAIRBOARD WOULD LIKE HELP During the Fayette County Fair there was vandalism in the bathrooms located in the Rabbit/Poultry Barn along with a few of the new chicken cages. The bathroom vandalism not only caused a huge mess but a large repair bill. The fairboard asks that if you have any information in regards to the vandalism, please contact the fair office at 563-422-5202. 2013-14 COUNTY 4-H COUNCIL MEMBERS RECORD BOOKS DUE SEPTEMBER 15 Reminder to those on the council: a meeting will be held Saturday, September 13 from noon to 2 pm. Attendance is important as we plan out the new year, elect officers and finalize plans for the upcoming retreat. Bring along your calendars and a pen or pencil. Remember attendance is important. All forms are available by picking up at the Extension Office or can be found online at http://www.extension.iastate.edu/fayette/page/recordbook-forms The exhibit explanation forms that were filled out for fair can be put in your record book. Simply fill out the back of the forms or junior members (grades 4-6) may continue to use the basic project record book sheet; intermediate (grade 7-8) the experienced and senior members (grades 9-12) the advanced. When completing the forms remember that the 2013-14 year runs from October 1, 2013-September 30, 2014 so be sure to use the grade completed NOT the grade you are currently in. If you have any questions or need additional help with your record book, please give Michele a call at the office to set up a time. Leaders must have record books turned into the Extension Office on or before Wednesday, October 1, in order for books to be processed for county judging. If you are Interested in helping judge record books, please let Michele know. A schedule of judging times will be sent to those interested. State Dairy Judging Contest Results The State Dairy Judging Contest was held during the 2014 Iowa State Fair in which Fayette County was represented with two teams of four in both the Junior and Senior division. Junior Fayette 1 consisted of Ben Scott, Natalie Eick, Brylie Volker and Vanessa Hamlett. Junior Fayette 2 team members were Naomi Scott, Henry Hamlett, Brynlee Volker and Raegan Kime. There were a total of 11 junior teams with 37 youth participating These 8 juniors did a wonderful job with the results being Fayette 1 placing 1 st and Fayette 2 placing 3 rd overall. Results of those who placed in the top ten are below. State Dairy Judging Contest Results Senior Fayette 1 team members included: Scott Stempfle, Nathan Arthur, Mary Scott and Sally Hamlett. Senior Fayette 2 team members were Cynthia Hamlett, Matt Appler, Katie Stewart and Ashley Baumler There were a total of 15 senior teams with 48 youth participating These 8 Seniors did a wonderful job with the results being Fayette 1 placing 1st and Fayette 2 placing 7th overall. Fayette 1 will represent the State of Iowa a the National Dairy Judging contest held in late September in Madison at the World Dairy Expo.
