LADY BEARS POSTGAME QUOTES 2018-19 BAYLOR 110, LANGSTON 45 EXHIBITION OCT. 26, 2018 WACO, TEXAS FERRELL CENTER BAYLOR HEAD COACH KIM MULKEY On getting a team look during the game Well it s always good to not have to play each other, we ve been at it for three or four weeks now and it just doesn t matter the competition. I wasn t looking at the score, I was looking at kids, and when the lights come on and the fans are in the stands, some kids impress you more than they do in practice. Some impress you less. I thought 20 missed free throws might be a Baylor record. You just can t have that. The turnovers when you play and you re moving kids in and out like that, you re gonna have a lot of turnovers, but we can t have 20 turnovers either. Five players in the first half sitting by me with two fouls, that s nerves, that s their first game in college, they ll figure it out. On looking at the point guards performance I thought that Juicy and Chloe who handled most of the night did fine. I m asking them to do something out of their comfort zone. They re wing players who were willing to sacrifice for the sake of the team. They re interchangeable, they both can score the basketball and shoot the perimeter shot so you may see one at the point and the one go at the wing in the middle of the game. I thought that they did fine. We ll be all right. On focusing on free throws You certainly focus on it. Honestly, that s about how we shot them in pregame today. I told them it all goes hand in hand, we had a terrible pregame free throw shooting. It took them forever to do the drill and hopefully they got it out of their system. The good thing is they did get to the free-throw line, but you can t miss as many free throws as we did tonight. In big games that will cost you. On what they want to get out of the next exhibition game A lot of it will depend on the opponent. I really wanted to press there and do some things with some freshmen and I called it off. I want to work on us, and maybe in the next game I can do some things different defensively like press, maybe mix in a zone, some of the new ones, just looking at different match ups. Who are my top eight or nine players who can score the basketball and defend and help us win a championship? When you play with the lights on you get a clearer picture sometimes, but you still have to develop players because there are those who get my attention in practice, in drills, but when the game time comes, you have to play the game on both ends. We re six new players, if you count Trinity [Oliver], that s seven new players on the floor for Baylor. Chloe [Jackson] is older but this is her first time playing with Baylor. If you mix those seven with what we have returning, it s going to take a little time but the talent is there, the chemistry, I think is there, but let s wait until it s a tougher game to see how they respond. They re a joy to coach, I have no complaints there. BAYLOR FRESHMAN FORWARD NALYSSA SMITH On her first game with Baylor: It was fun, just going off and scrimmaging each other every day at practice, and we finally get a new team to play against, it was just fun. Just doing things that I knew I could do and just scored the ball. On what she feels like she brings to the team: I feel like I bring like a lot of offensive rebounds and just energy. On Queen s aggressiveness in practice... Yeah, Queen fouls all the time I tell her about it! BAYLOR GRADUATE SENIOR CHLOE JACKSON On the freshman and their progress from the beginning of the year until now... They always are full of energy, so I know when I m out there with them I can push it and, that with everybody actually, but they re a fun group to play with on and off the court, they re cool people. Just growing from, obviously as a freshman, the pace is different so them being able to adjust to that has been a lot of growth already. On adapting to the new position... Well this past month, I mean, she s just been I guess drilling me and making sure I do everything right. Really just been on me, cause there s really no breaks at the point guard position, which is something I m not used to and also being able to talk and lead and that just comes with knowing the plays and the more you know the more you can lead.
