Volume 58, Issue Number 5 May 2005 Presidents Prerogative May 2005 The spring issue of Blue Bars magazine has a thought-provoking article inside the front cover called Turtle On A Fencepost by Roget Mitchell. It provides an analogy about some demented individuals who find sport at positioning turtles on the flat surfaces of fence posts and leaving them there. Somebody put the turtle there and now the turtle is completely dependant upon others for sustenance. The article goes on to describe how dependant any organization is upon the support of its membership. The board members and officers cannot be successful within CCT without the members who support them. Everything requires a collective effort and each and every person s efforts are important. I ll bring copies of the article to the next meeting for anyone who would like to read it. The next meeting will be our normal time and place at Friendly Chevrolet. Someone who cares about the future of CCT needs to step up to head the Activity Committee. This too, will be a team effort.no!! one need shoulder ALL the responsibility for our activities! Thank you for your continued support. Mitch Factor President, CCT and remember to.

CORVETTE CLUB OF TEXAS, INC. APRIL 15, 2005, MEMBERSHIP MEETING FRIENDLY CHEVROLET, STEMMONS FREEWAY, DALLAS Ken Bradley, a Board Member, brought the meeting to order at 7:30 PM, April 15, 2005. No officers were present at the meeting because they were all attending an event at Boerne, Texas. No treasurer s report was given. The April Board minutes were read and approved. No officer reports were given due to their absence. Visitors were recognized and welcomed. There were four guests welcomed and they were all new C6 owners: Paul Silver (yellow C6 Coupe), Mary Ann and Lou Sheppler (magnetic red C6 Convertible won in the Texas Lotto), and Russell Brundnett. Eight CCT members were in attendance. Activities reported: The Poppy Festival in Georgetown, April 22 & 23 rd was discussed. Greg Kubiak, Internet Director for Friendly, and CCT Rep, discussed car prices. One of the guests (Paul Silver) purchased his car from Friendly and shopped the Internet and all dealers in town and Friendly beat all the prices. Ken discussed the Angel Fire trip over the 4 th of July this year. Everyone was invited to go and eat barbeque after the meeting. The meeting adjourned at 8:30 PM. Respectfully submitted, Ken Bradley

FRIENDLY CHEVROLET CORVETTE CLUB REPRESENTATIVE Friendly Chevrolet s representative to the Corvette Club of Texas is Gary Kubiak. When you need to replace your Corvette for a new C6 be sure and give Gary a call at 214-920-1950. Don't forget to contact Gary when you are upgrading the family car for a new one! In addition to his regular work schedule, Gary is always at the dealership during our monthly Friday night membership meeting. Also, you can email Gary at intdir@friendlychevy.com GOVERNOR S REPORT South West region clubs are beginning to advertise their specific events for 2005. Be on the watch of those of interest to you. As they become available, watch this newsletter, our web site and handouts at our monthly meetings for particulars. Also it is not too early to be thinking about attending the NCCC Convention. It is being held in St Cloud MN July 23-29. Registration forms are in the latest issue of Blue Bars. Here is a condensed version of all the activities upcoming in the SouthWest region. I have additional information if you are interested. See JoAnn Powdrill. The rawing for the Z06 will be held during the C3 Extravaganza, October 13 15. The NCM is now making plans for the 11 th annual Corvette Celebration, to be held Labor Day week-end. This is a fun event with lots of activities for everyone. Again this year they are having a dinner & auction at Wendell Strode s early 1800 s house for lifetime members. SO now is a good time to become a lifetime NCM member & you get to go to this (as well as other) event at no charge. Need garage art??? One of the auction items is the 8ft. I must have missed something. 2005 MONTHLY BOARD OF DIRECTOR S MEETINGS

The next CCT monthly board meeting will be 7:30 PM Monday, May 16th, at Friendly Chevrolet in the Sales Meeting Room. To be able to effectively address all items of importance that the monthly board meetings will continue to be held on Monday evenings until further notice, the week before the membership meeting (2 nd Monday). The Board meetings are open to all CCT members, and members are encouraged to attend and be a part of planning and providing direction for the club in 2005. ACTIVITIES REPORT-Things to Do Members of Corvette Club of Texas: A gentle reminder: 1. Please, make sure you sign the NCCC liability insurance form before embarking on any CCT activity. This is for your protection in case of an accident. The host/hostess will have this form for you to sign prior to departure. 2. On a voluntary basis, you can give to the host / hostess, of a CCT event, your medical history/current physical condition and medicines you are taking, in a "sealed envelope. At the conclusion of the CCT event, The envelope would be returned to you for future use. If you were involved in an accident or became ill, the envelope would be surrendered only to a medical professional caring for you. Coming Soon!! An update from an event posted last month--------------- On the 2nd Friday of every month, the city of Rowlett, TX holds its Family Fun Night & Car show at Dalrock Road & Hwy 66 [Mapsco 20-B-S/W] It begins at 6 P M. Those of us who attended last month's show were not impressed with the event, but found out the promoter for the city [Stephanie Smith @214-718-7984] had to change the location at the last minute due to A new land owner purchasing the shopping center and did not want the event held on his property at this time. All of that problem has been resolved and the city feels this month will be A great event with lot's of turn out. Our new members Russell & Kathy Brundrett are going to the event again this month and will bring back a report for presentation to our board and or membership, as to CCT's participation in the future. Russell wanted them to have A second chance since their fist one was not a good representation of their event. We could meet at Sammy Walkers B Q [next door to the car show] around 6 or meet at the show. They are awarding A dash plaque and T shirt to the first 50 entries. Hopefully, A good turn out will occur in support of the City's effort. Please contact Russell @972-263-9047 home, 214-668- 3534 cell., with questions...regards...ben Loflin Remember members--- Only You can prevent dull weekends. Ben, Dennis and Mitch have coordinated the last few overnighters, but they need help with activities planning. Contact Mitch Factor, Dennis Bertwell or Ben Loflin, to lend a hand.

Be sure and read the calendar of events in the Newsletter as some important dates are coming our way soon, ie, Speedway Children's Charity Laps at TMS on May 14th...The Lone Star Corvette Classic at TMS on May 14th, 15th, 16th, MORE THINGS TO DO AND OTHER INTERESTS Corvette Clubs throughout the South West Region sponsor activities all year round. This is A day trip and no provisions have been made to block off any rooms. However some folks may plan on staying the night...guess it Just depends on how lucky they get.. Let Mary Wolter know @ 817-478-6096, if you are going. and she has full details. The Branson, Mo. Corvette club is having its 4th annual car show extravaganza in Branson on June 10th -12th...some CCT members have made the trip to Branson and said it was great with lot's of fun times... Until we get A full time activities director [now is A good time to jump on board & help with planning this trip] Dennis Bertwell, co-chair for activities and myself will get this trip before our board on May 9th. for Approval or Declination. Your input as to going on this outing will be helpful if you attend the board meeting and let your desires be known.. In the mean time Contact Dennis or my self with Q & A. Ken & Jeanette Bradley are hosting an adventure over the 4th of July week-end at their home in Angle Fire, NM...Right now Ken is busy taking care of Jeanette who had recent knee surgery and is convalescing. So contact Dennis or I until Ken gets things back to normal. There are just too many highlight's on this trip to name them all. Suffice it to say that the 5 days you are there you will be having A good time... Please, read your newsletter for many other local and close by things to do, you will be surprised at how many opportunities for fun and interesting times are available, all listed in the NEWSLETTER..

If you missed it! Red Poppy Festival 2005 Georgetown, Texas April 22, 23, 2005 Well we had terrific weather the entire weekend. Bob & Paula Mischel, Brian & Janet Gelles and myself left Friday afternoon from south Fort Worth and headed south on I-35W. We picked up Gary & Ann Sewell in their brand new red C6 coupe along the way in West, Texas. After we checked in at our hotel we went to diner at the Wildfire Restaurant in downtown Georgetown and had a relaxing evening of great food and drink. The next morning we all got up early and caravanned to the Don Hewlett Chevy dealership. We signed up for the car show then paraded through town with 95 other Corvettes. There seemed to be a shortage of Red Poppies along the parade route but we had a lot of Corvettes. After we arrived at the town square we parked our cars for the show. There was a good representation of all 6 generations of Corvettes starting from 1957 through 2005 models. And Gary & Ann were still sporting dealer plates on their new red 05 coupe. After we had our cars judged we wandered through the streets checking out all the Corvettes, street vendors, entertainment and of course the food. Live music was provided all afternoon and into the evening. Way to go, Mel! We stayed around for the judging and guess what!! My car won best in class for the second year in a row (C5 conv). It must have something to do with that color combo. After the awards we headed for Duke s BBQ to have diner out on the deck, my pick. Again, the weather was perfect and we really enjoyed the diner, live music and conversation. Slept in a little Sunday morning and started back for DFW stopping along the way to have brunch and the Stagecoach Inn on I-35. They have some great food!! All together it was a pretty great trip. I m going to try for #3 next year. Mel Roggenbuck

Where else but Boerne, Texas that is... On April 15th, 6 CCT cars left for Boerne, Tx for the annual fund raiser, St.Judes foundation for cripple children's research. Under the leadership of Mitch & Carol Factor and Dennis & Patti Bertwell they arrived in Boerne around 3 P M. Having stopped at a quaint little bakery in Blanco for hot apple pie covered with ice cream, slowed them up somewhat. After spending some time at The Loflin's home, every one went to their hotel to get ready for the friday night's dinner reservations at the Ye Old Kendal Inn. After dinner we went to "The Cellar", a wine shop with live music and many wines to sample. Saturday morning began at the Loflin's for coffee, Danish and juice. Then the 5 min ride to the car display where lot's of cars were present which included, Corvettes, classics, street rod's and vendors. The ladies went shopping as Boerne has very nice shop's to spend time in. After admiring the vehicles on display and visiting the shops, we departed to spend most of the afternoon seeking out point's of interest on our own. Others of us took A nap. Once again we began our Saturday night adventure at the Loflin's for a refreshment and then off to the Welfare, Texas [population 10] cafe. A very unique place where we dined on the covered patio situated in A flower garden. The food was good as usual, or everyone said it was good. Unfortunately, Mel Roggenbuck's arthritis acted up and he had to go home, so he missed the Welfare dining and the Sunday activities. We began once again at Ben & Billie's on Sunday morning, then joined our host, The Corvette club from San Antonio. They caravaned us through some beautiful blue bonnet areas [ Willow Loop] and through the LBJ Park where we stopped and they cooked hamburgers with all the trimmings. They were great burgers! We did find one problem however, I failed to tell everyone to bring his or her favorite drink and it was warm. No worry! Mr. Bob Elfont came to our rescue by making an announcement to the San Antonio Club that we are not very sophisticated in these matters and not too smart on occasion, but we would be happy to pay anyone who had extra drinks. We had more free drinks than we knew what to do with. Many thanks to Bob for solving the problem. Everyone arrived home safe and sound with no tickets or car problems.. Pics from the trip Nice car, but not a Corvette. Then again, Mel promised the aspiring starlet a cameo in our Newsletter. Way to go, Mel!
