Triangle Sports Commission Newsletter October 10, 2017 Triangle Sports Commission October 2017 Newsletter Triangle Men's Basketball Tip-Off Luncheon The Triangle Men's Tip-Off Luncheon on September 22, 2017 was the first time in eight years that coaches from each of the four NCAA Division I universities in the Triangle came together for this event, and it was well worth the wait! Moderated by WRAL Sports anchor Jeff G ravley, the panel featured Jeff Capel, Associate Head Coach at Duke University; Kevin Keatts, Head Coach at NC State University; LeVelle Moton, Head Coach at NC Central University; and Roy Williams, Head Coach at the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill. The coaches discussed the upcoming season, their coaching careers, and their personal lives. The event was featured in a live radio broadcast over Capitol Broadcasting Company's networks and was livestreamed at WRALSportsfan.com. Virtually every local media outlet attended the event which resulted in significant publicity. You can find links to the news articles and live broadcast by clicking here or visiting http://www.trianglesportscommission.com/usof30.

Staff, board members, volunteers, and athletes of the Festival gathered together to celebrate the amazing achievements and lasting legacies of this seminal event. The Festival still holds the record as the largest sports event ever held in North Carolina. It was also by far the most transformational sports event the state has ever experienced with beneficial legacies that endure today including many firsts for North Carolina such as the first regional transit system and first regional fiber optics network in the state. Hill Carrow, CEO of the Triangle Sports Commission and former President and Executive Director of the 1987 Olympic Festival served, as MC for the evening's festivities. Nancy Hogshead-Makar, the keynote speaker, provided inspirational remarks about her swimming career and how she always strives to work towards something greater than herself. Nancy, who attended Duke University and is an Olympic Gold Medalist, helped market and promote the '87 Festival in the mid-1980s. She has since become a national leader and advocate for Women's Sports.
