Weekly Release #8 Jan. 6, 2009... Page 2 2008-09 Horizon League Team Notes BUTLER BULLDOGS (7-6 overall, 2-0 HL) Butler s 83-40 win over Christian Brothers last Monday was its largest victory since a 87-43 thumping of UIC on Feb. 11, 1999. It also ranks as the 15th-largest win in program history and is just the 19th decision by 40 or more points. Butler s 25 steals against Christian Brothers ranks as the top singlegame performance in the Horizon League this season. The effort helped boost Butler from fourth in the conference (9.8 spg) to fi rst (11.2 spg) in just one game. Junior Melanie Thornton has already eclipsed her scoring and rebounding totals from the 2007-08 season. Through 13 games, she has collected 160 points (12.3 ppg) and 109 rebounds (8.4 rpg). CLEVELAND STATE VIKINGS (7-7 overall, 1-1 HL) Junior Kailey Klein has moved into seventh on Cleveland State s all-time scoring list. She now has 1,246 points in two-plus seasons. Sophomore Shawnita Garland tied her career high with 18 points against Buffalo last Monday. She hit all eight of her shots from the fi eld in CSU s 75-48 victory over the Bulls. Junior Angel Roque had her streaks of consecutive games played (74) and games started (55) snapped when she missed the Buffalo game. DETROIT TITANS (5-8 overall, 1-1 HL) Detroit opened its Horizon League slate with a 71-64 win at Loyola on Saturday. It was UDM s fi rst victory in a conference road opener since the loop changed its named to Horizon League (2001-02). Freshman Talicia Washington posted her fi rst career double-double -- 14 points and 10 rebounds -- against Loyola. Senior Sandi Brown registered a double-double -- 12 points and 11 rebounds -- against the Ramblers. Detroit managed its largest rebounding margin of the year vs. Loyola (+10, 47-37). GREEN BAY PHOENIX (9-3 overall, 1-0 HL) Green Bay is unbeaten all-time in Horizon League openers (15-0) and as an NCAA Division I program with a conference affi liation. The Phoenix limited Milwaukee to just 12 fi eld goals on Sunday -- the fewest it has allowed all year. The 36 points UWM scored are the fewest given up by Green Bay since Dec. 15, 2007, when it allowed just 27 points to Northern Arizona. LOYOLA RAMBLERS (5-7 overall, 0-2 HL) Loyola ranks second in the Horizon League in scoring (66.7 ppg) and fi eld-goal percentage (.441). Junior Maggie McCloskey paces the conference in three-point fi eld goal percentage (.444) and threes made per game (3.0). 2008-09 Horizon League PRESEASON POLL 1. Green Bay (24)...284 2.
