Life Abides A Reflection from Dr. Vallor This is why STEM is so wonderful: Normally, the stream bed that runs under the bridge leading to St. Nicholas field is bare rock. Its too dry and bare for anything to grow. Two days ago, it rained such that as of yesterday afternoon, there was rushing water flowing over the rocks. Today, as soon as the water dried up enough to stop flowing, this little patch of moss appeared, just as bright and green as if it was in a rainforest. By tomorrow or the next day, it will probably be gone, just as it has every time we get a rain storm followed by many days of dry weather. But it s there now, even if just for a little while. With the time it has, it will grow and try to reproduce, to spread spores so that the next bit of rain will let it sprout somewhere else anew. It lives its whole life like this, waiting for a little rain, so that it can sprout somewhere else again, and again. I am sure there's a metaphor in there for the Christian journey, somewhere. But I find the actual thing tells me more. Life abides. It clings tenaciously to even the tiniest amount of space in the most desolate environments. And given just a little chance, it springs up anew as if it were the most lush and plentiful conditions ever. And it never quits! This is God's handiwork, front and center. To understand it is the greatest privilege. From The Atonement Academy s Robotics Facebook page If you are on Facebook, like the Crusader STEM Robotics page: Search for @crusader.stem.robotics What a privilege to teach STEM in a Catholic environment! Fr. Stravinskas to Present to Parents and Teachers Noted scholar, author, and apologist Fr. Peter Stravinskas will join the Atonement community again next week for several presentations, and our parents are invited to hear him discuss the importance of Catholic education on Thursday, October 6 at 6:30 pm. Come meet Fr. Stravinskas and hear his words of wisdom and encouragement! We will have a wine and cheese reception, too. Location to be determined by response, so kindly let us know if you will attend by calling the office at 695-2240 or emailing Mrs. Adame at iadame@atonementonline.com.
