Jacksonville State, from the Ohio Valley Conference, was a former rival of GSU in the old TAAC, then Atlantic Sun days. The Gamecocks have played five of their first eight games on the road, coming to Atlanta after a Sunday loss at nationally-ranked Florida State. One of JSU s top players, Brittany Wiley, hails from Carrollton, Ga. and averages 11 points a game. JaDechia Hill, from Villa Rica, Ga., comes off the bench and has played in every game. Baldwin-Tener has returned to her Atlanta hometown after eight seasons as head coach at East Carolina in C-USA. She took last year s 23-win ECU team to the second round of the WNIT and has started the Panthers at 3-4. Georgia State s been working on team chemistry with the new staff and a lot of new players, mixed with returning players who hadn t started before. So far, eight different players have been given starting assignments. Six-foot-two junior redshirt Chan Harris, averaging 14 points and 10.7 rebounds, while blocking 16 shots, missed the last game with a foot injury and is day-to-day. Senior Angelique Burtts averages 15.3 points and 6.6 rebounds, with 13 steals. Traci Haltiwanger and Kendra Long each have eight three-point baskets. Sophomore center Cody Paulk has 11 blocked shots and is shooting 55.6% from the field. GSU s defensive stats rank them No. 11 in the nation in field goal defense (.329), No. 15 in blocked shots (5.6), No. 34 in points allowed (54.6) and No. 66 in the country in steals per game (10.9). SOME NICE ROUND NUMBERS FOR GSU WOMEN S BASKETBALL GSU S 500th WIN Georgia State began basketball in 1975-76, making this the 36th season. The Panthers currently have a 497-482 all-time record, meaning they need just three more wins for the 500th in school history. GSU has had five 20-win seasons, four postseason bid seasons (three N, one WNIT), and 19 seasons with a.500 or better final record. COACH TENER S 200th WIN New GSU head coach Sharon Baldwin Tener is 3-3 in her first year at GSU, but this is her 12th year overall as a head coach. Her current all-time record as a head coach is 198-146, leaving her just two wins shy of her 200th milestone victory. She s had eight seasons at.500 or better, including 23-11 last year at ECU. She earned both an N and WNIT bid with the Pirates. GSU S 1,000th GAME Georgia State first game played was in 1975-76 with a win over Georgia Tech, 80-33. Their 28th game this year will mark the 1,000th game played in GSU women s basketball history. Should all conditions hold, weather allow for travel, and the like, GSU s 1,000th game will be at Northeastern on Feb. 27.

Adrienne Shuler has 17 years of college coaching experience, including a six-year stint as the head coach at Appalachian State (2002-08). Shuler joined Baldwin-Tener for the past two seasons at East Carolina, helping last year s team to 23 wins and the WNIT bid. Shuler had also been the associate head coach at Furman and on that staff from 1995-2002. She played her college ball at the University of Georgia. Jocelyn Wyatt also comes from two years with Baldwin-Tener on the East Carolina staff. Wyatt served two years as a GA at Georgia prior to that. She played college ball at Appalachian State under Shuler and her high school ball in metro Atlanta at Berkmar. Jonathon Barbaree returns for his second year at GSU and has 14 years experience on women s college basketball staffs. He is an Atlanta native and athlete at Rockdale County High School. PANTHERS ROSTER MAKE-UP The 12 active players include two seniors (Burtts and Haltiwanger), three juniors (Davenport, Ernest, Harris), three sophomores (Anderson, Paulk, Taylor) and four freshmen (Jordan, Long, Shepherd, Smith). The two redshirts are both juniors who will have two years left when they start playing next year (Hargraves and Means). Six of the 12 active players come from Georgia (Anderson, Burtts, Davenport, Harris, Long and Taylor). Two Panthers hail from Alabama (Paulk and Shepherd). Ernest comes from California. Jordan hails from North Carolina and Haltiwanger from South Carolina. Victoria Smith comes from the land down under, in Sydney, Australia. IS TOUGH AGAIN The had seven teams earn postseason bids last year and are ranked No. 8 in the Nov. 30 RPI rankings. Two of the three All-Americans return, who were both top five scorers in the N. They started strong in 2010-11. Elena Delle Donne of Delaware leads the nation with 26.2 per game (high of 41) with 9.0 rebounds and 11-of- 18 treys. That average includes one game of 0 points when she tried to play when sick and only logged five minutes. Dawn Evans of JMU is scoring 23.5 per game (No. 7 N) with 26 treys (No. 6). Courtney Hurt of is No. 3 in scoring (24.7) and is No. 1 in the nation in rebounding (13.0). Four teams are in the Top 25 in the current Mid-Major poll among the 22 conferences considered in that category. ODU is No. 6, Delaware is No. 9, JMU is No. 10, Drexel is No. 20, with Hofstra, UNCW and receiving votes. Six teams are listed in the Top 110 in the Sagarin RPI rankings.

THE ALL-TIME SERIES Georgia State holds a 20-5 series lead overjacksonville State with the first meeting back in 1979-80 and the most recent game four years ago in 2007-08. The Panther have won the last four in the series and 11 of the last 12 games played with the Gamecocks. GSU won seven straight from a win in 1998-99 until JSU won on Jan. 25, 2003, in Jacksonville to end that. GSU has won the last seven meetings between the teams in Atlanta at the GSU Sports Arena, with the Gamecocks last win in Atlanta in the 1996-97 season. The first-ever game in the series was played in Atlanta in the season opener in the 1979-80 season with GSU prevailing, 59-50, to start a final 18-10 season. In the last meeeting on Nov. 24, 2007, GSU won here at the Sports Arena by a 63-51 score, overcoming a JSU 25-21 halftime lead. Danyiell McKeller led the Panthers with 15 points on 5-of-7 field goals and 5-of-6 free throws. Shay Rawls had 15 rebounds that night for the Panthers. Guard Brittany Hollins added 12 points, five assists and five steals. Before the 2007 meeting, GSU traveled to JSU and claimed a 78-67 win on Nov. 25, 2006. McKeller s 21 points led the way as GSU broke from a 35-35 halftime tie to produce the road win. Kelcey Roegiers-Jensen had 14 points, seven rebounds and six assists in that game. The 20 wins by GSU represent the fifth most all-time wins over any rival. HARRIS: A FORCE INSIDE Six-foot-two junior Chan Harris has started strong after her return from foot surgery last December. The high-jumping Harris is currently ranked in the top 35 in the country in three categories: N Total-Average Blocked Shots 1 16 16-2.7 Rebounds 3 20 64-10.7 FG Percentage 2 32 38-68 -.569 Harris has scored in double figures in five of six games and had double-doubles in three of those six games. For her career, the junior is up to 24 double-figure games and 11 double-figure rebound games. In addition to a high jumper on the court, she was an All- high jumper in track and field two years ago, finishing second at the Championship Meet. Her fourth point in Thursday s game with UAB put her over the 500-point milestone as she heads toward a 1,000-point career. RAINBOWS FOR HALTIWANGER Senior guard Traci Haltiwanger leads the team with 7-of-16 three-point shots this year. She has launched 76 arching rainbows from outside the arc into the nets during her career. She s had a pair of games with four three-point baskets made, including one earlier this year at Stetson. Traci s closing in on round-figure milestones, needing 4 more assists for 100, needing 16 more steals for 100 and needing 67 more points for 500 in her career. BURTTS: A SENIOR LEADER Angelique Burtts is back for a final season of college basketball and is adding to an already impressive resume. Burtts, the only player on GSU s team to start all 30 games last year, has 90 games experience with three years N and one year JUCO. The 6-footer has produced 46 double-figure scoring games in her combined career, including 6 of 7 games of 2010-11. She has 961 career points and 492 rebounds. Last year, she recorded a rare triple-double game with 19 points, 11 assists and 10 rebounds in a win over Murray State. She had a double-double against George Mason. She scored 20 points in a game twice last year, both in wins for GSU over Drexel and Nicholls State. She can crash the boards and has three games with 10 rebounds and another pair with nine rebounds. A good passer, she had a pair of seven-assist games to go with the 11-assist game last year. Burtts was a third-team JUCO All-America pick at East Mississippi Community College (25-7 and Sweet Sixteen) as she led the way with 15.5 points and 7.9 rebounds. She had 10 double-double games in JUCO. Also an outside shooter, she has 42 three-point baskets in her career. At Rockdale High in Conyers, Burtts averaged 20 points and 10 rebounds a game as a two-time All-State pick. The all-around athlete was fifith in the state championship in the long jump and was also a 200-meter sprinter. Angelique has a twin brother, Angelo. Sister Lakeia Stokes (Class of 04) played at Clemson and scored 953 points with 463 rebounds.

Down 33-23 at Bethune-Cookman with 3:51 to play, the visiting Panthers ran off the 13 straight points to take a 36-33 lead into halftime. GSU was down by as many as 12 points in that game (20-18 with 11:06). GSU had a 9-0 run to start the second half vs. Alabama A&M and break from a 27-27 halftime tie to a 36-27 lead at 17:27. The first half has been a struggle this season for GSU as the Panthers have trailed four times, been tied once, and led the two others by two and three points. They have trailed at halftime by 2, 6, 11 and 15 points. In the seven games, GSU has outscored its opponents, 206-176, in the second halves combined (+30). DEFENSIVE STREAK Georgia State has held its last 5 opponents to 55 or fewer points, yet won only two of those. GSU is No. 34 in the nation in defense (54.6 per game). The Panthers defense has kept six of its seven opponents to 35.2% shooting from the field, with only Georgia Tech in the opener topping that (44%), meaning a streak of six straight below that 35.2%. Head Coach Sharon Baldwin-Tener Sharon Baldwin-Tener continues her ascent as a rising star and a proven winner. On April 16, she was named the ninth head coach in GSU history by Director of Athletics Cheryl L. Levick. In eight years, Baldwin-Tener turned the East Carolina women s basketball program around, winning 126 games, while earning postseason bids to the N and WNIT tournaments. The Lady Pirates of ECU won the C-USA Tournament in 2007. It is a homecoming for Baldwin-Tener as she played her prep ball in Smyrna and her college ball at both Kennesaw State and the University of Georgia. She was an assistant coach at Georgia and a head coach at Life University in Marietta. In 2009-10, her 23-11 ECU team was No. 37 in the N in scoring, while ranking No. 12 in three-point FG percentage, No. 14 in overall FG percentage, No. 19 in assists and No. 42 in rebound margin among the 345 Division I colleges and universities. Those eight years at ECU followed her 2001-02 season as the Atlantic Sun Conference Coach of the Year honor in her only season at Mercer University in Macon. She first gained notice as the NAIA National Coach of the Year at Life University, where she began that program with a final No. 7 ranking in its first year and produced a team ranked No.1 in the national polls in her second season (2001). The tournament site moves around and this year it will be held at a new venue for the : The Show Place Arena in Upper Marlboro, Md., just outside Washington D.C.
