S U M M E R & 2 0 1 3 & & $ the$ P.O.Box2001,RanchoMirage,CA92270$2.00 President s$message$ We have settled down into a pleasant routine of simply enjoying each other s company and our dances. Even with the excessive heat our Tuesday dances have averaged over 40 people, which is amazing for this time of year. Our membership continues to grow with the latest count at 147 total members. If you haven t renewed your membership it s never to late. For those of us that have been around awhile, let s make an effort to dance with our new members and make them feel welcome and supported as they get into the swing of things. We are pleased to now offer lessons before our Sunday evening dances. We need your support and we are sure that these lessons will increase your interest in joining us on Sundays. Ray Stanton will be teaching Night Club Two Step or Country Club Two Step on the 2nd Sunday of the month. Julie Gubb will be teaching intermediate WCS the 4th Sunday of the month of July. Our golf, dinner and dance we had in late May was so much fun We are grateful for the efforts of Rich Stenton in organizing the whole event. It was a small group but not lacking in enthusiasm. I hope we are able to do it again sometime. Our intermediate workshop with Trish Connery and David Walcup was a big success. We had 31 participants. We learned about musicality, extensions and syncopations in WCS. The Night Club Two Step lesson taught us the importance of timing and other tricks to make sure the dance ebbs and flows. Trish and David could not have been nicer to have joined us. They were as impressed with our friendly and open group as we were with them. Jay Byam's event is coming up Aug-15-18th. He is still looking for volunteers to help out. The conference offers something for every kind of dancer. It s a wonderful way to get instruction both in basic and more advanced WCS, to watch the champions and be inspired by all the great dancers from around the country and finally to enjoy the open dances. Of course, as many of you know, the conference is a great place to shop and buy good WCS dance shoes. Let us enjoy this lovely respite that the summer WCS club offers and be thankful for our friends, fellow dancers, and good health. We are a fortunate group. - Ann DSDC activities are licensed through affiliation with the National FastDance Assn. Let s brush up on those skills OUR&NEW&DANCE&VENUE&is&Indian&Canyons&Golf& 2 Our$Schedule$$ DSDC needs you to LIKE us on FACEBOOK and View this Newsletter on our Website www.desertswingdanceclub.com If you like our newsletter and our photos then DSDC needs you to access these newsletters online. Why? It s a geeky answer. We ve increased the number of pictures in our newsletter but that also greatly increases the file size. And a large file is not very good for emailing. Images take up more bits and bytes than words. Then when we compress them for email they are not as clear as you probably would like. The solution is for our members to access the newsletter from the DSDC website http://www.desertswingdanceclub.com/ by clicking on the PDF link and opening the PDF file. We will send you a link to the Newsletter in email. Then your email is not clogged up with an attachment that the Internet Provider doesn t like, and it s easier for you to directly save that file on your computer. Some of the images can then be removed from the newsletter for your use. But we will save that for another article. Please link to us on FACEBOOK. We now have 53 LIKES on Facebook but we have 147 members. So where are you guys? If we had more of our members on Facebook, we would post more of these pictures. And once you are on Facebook, you can share your mug with friends, children, grandchildren, and the press and show the world what a wonderful dancer you are The truth is we haven t done much of this because we know you guys aren t on Facebook. WE NEED YOU ON FACEBOOK. It s fun and easy, and convenient for getting the word out HERE IS HOW TO SIGN UP FOR FACEBOOK: If you don't have a Facebook account, you can sign up in a few easy steps. To sign up for a brand new account, enter your name, birthday, gender, and email address into the form on www.facebook.com. Then pick a password. After you complete the sign up form, they will send an email to the address you provided. Just click the confirmation link to complete the sign up process. Now all you need to do is search for the Desertswingdanceclubdsdc and click on the LIKE button.
