January - February 2019 Rockin' Times Hotline 773.467.0177 * E-mail: cwcjc@jitterbugchicago.com * Website: www.jitterbugchicago.com STATE OF THE CLUB Joanne Kokalj President Soon the holidays will be here again. It s hard to believe another year has gone by. Once again, it is time to write about our club s overall status. This year we had to make the difficult decision to let Sweet Home Chicago go. As I explained in the July/August newsletter, it was just too much of a risk financially to continue on. For those who have supported Sweet Home Chicago through the years, I m sure they will miss it, but the most important thing is to keep our club going. Listed below is a summary of the major income/expense that we incurred this year. 2017 Holiday Party - expense to club $1,163.52 2018 St. Pat s Party - expense to club $663.00 2018 Baseball Night - profit of $44.45 2018 Sweet Home Chicago - expense to club $3,666.72 2018 Tailgate night - expense to club $248.78 29th Anniversary Dinner/Dance - profit of $383.00 The cost of running a dance at the legion hall is $800. Most dances we do not make this much at the door, so we then have to use the club s portion of the 50/50 to pay the bills. Even using that sometimes we are still in the red. We have looked into what some of the other club s in the area are charging for dance admittance and yearly dues, and we seem to be in line with the other clubs. At this time, we have no intention of raising the yearly dues or the price of admittance to the dance. As I said in the last newsletter, nothing lasts forever, but with support from the members, our club can last quite a while yet, remember it is up to all of you. Inside the newsletter is our 2019 dance schedule, mark these dates on your calendar, get your dancing shoes out and come to a dance. We are working on a picnic for next year, we have a date of June 30th and we have put a deposit down at the Lombard Meadows Picnic Grove. We are still checking into the cost of food and a DJ, this of course will be the determining factor as to whether or not we move forward. Watch for details on this. On behalf of the entire board and all those who work year round for our club we wish each and every one of you a very, very Happy Holiday. May 2019 be a healthy and prosperous year for all of our members and guests and a great year for our club. See you at the dance, Joanne
