ELIZABETH S WALES Wednesday, April 25, BBC One Wales, 7.30pm Nearly 60 years ago, Wales joined the rest of Britain in celebrating the Queen s Coronation. One of the first major events to be televised, the nation clustered around TV sets in the few homes that owned them to view the historic event live on screen. The national outpouring of civic pride as a young, glamorous monarch took the reins after years of wartime austerity brought people onto the streets as they organised parties, hung bunting and pulled together to celebrate. And as former Breakfast presenter Sian Williams discovers, amateur filmmakers were there to capture the events in all their red, white and blue glory. Watching their personal archive film, Sian catches up with Beryl Havard and pals in Ruthin, where they were little stars in their street party as the Fairy Queen and her assistants, visits Pill in Newport where Maureen Harding recalls Coronation Day events with other former residents of Raglan Street, and collects around 100 guests who lived in Llantwit Fardre to view forgotten footage of their own celebrations. THEY SOLD A MILLION: RICKY VALANCE Tuesday, April 24, BBC One Wales, 10.35pm He was the first Welshman ever to have a Number One hit with Tell Laura I Love Her, and Ricky Valance s life has been defined by that one song ever since. Though the hit continues to be a crowd pleaser more than 50 years later, Ricky - born David Spencer in Ynysddu - believes he has much more to offer with a new batch of songs he s recording. There s so much more to me than just this record, he says. Ricky returns from his home on the Costa Blanca, where he continues to entertain with his singing, to a gig at the Newbridge Memo, which holds fond memories as it s where he met his wife Evelyn. On the way he reminisces about his time as a miner before getting out to become a singer - an ambition he was pilloried for as it was seen as namby pamby at the time, he says catches up with childhood friends and even visits his old Ynysddu home. With this sell-out gig in Wales, will he finally achieve his dream of being more than a one hit wonder? Jenny Walford
CONNIE S PEOPLE Monday, April 23, BBC One Wales, 7.30pm Connie Fisher continues her journey on Connie s People as she takes part in one of the strangest events on the Welsh sporting calendar - husky racing in Pembrey Country Park. Joining hundreds of competitors and their dogs at the championship event, she gets the chance to drive her own team of huskies around the course. She didn t even have to wait for snow - the sleighs can also be on wheels. Connie then joins one of Wales oldest volunteer armies, the Women s Royal Voluntary Service. Formed over 70 years ago, they still help people all over Wales - running shops and cafes in hospitals, keeping the meals-on-wheels service going and visiting elderly people living alone. Connie is moved to tears as she spends a day on the frontline in Pembrokeshire, and finds out just how important this army is and why it is fighting to carry on its incredible work. She also meets an ice-cream maker who loves fantastical flavours like roast beef with horseradish! Ceri Mears

BBC NATIONAL ORCHESTRA OF WALES Friday, April 27, Brangwyn Hall, Swansea, 7.30pm bbc.co.uk/now Tim Thorpe, Principal Horn of BBC National Orchestra of Wales, will perform one of the great horn concertos alongside the rest of the Orchestra, at Swansea s Brangwyn Hall on Friday, April 27. Tim, who was appointed Principal Horn of the Orchestra in 2005, will perform Strauss s Horn Concerto No 1 - written when the composer was just 18. A bold, heroic piece, it s a staple of the horn repertoire that shows off the full range of the instrument. Describing how it feels to perform on stage, Time says, It s always nerve-racking performing a solo in front of any orchestra, most of all your own! However, you do get a lot of support from your colleagues and they all want you to do well I m looking forward to performing alongside them in Swansea. The concert also features Brahms s Serenade No 2, and Shostakovich s Symphony No 1 two works also completed by the composers at a young age. Tickets are priced at 12.50 to 15.50 (discounts available) and are available by calling the Orchestra s Audience Line on 0800 052 1812 or Swansea Grand Theatre Box Office on 01792 475715. Serch hynny, nid yw eu llwybr i hapusrwydd wedi bod yn un llyfn iawn hyd yma, gyda rhywbeth neu rhywun yn dod rhyngddynt ar bob achlysur. Ond mae Diane yn cynnig cyngor syml a buddiol gan ddweud y dylai Jim roi ei deimladau ar bapur. Ai cariad sydd ar feddwl Eileen pan mae n chwilio amdano yn y Deri? Mae euogrwydd wedi bod yn llethu Gwyneth wrth iddi deimlo rhwyd ffawd yn cau amdani. Ni all Yvonne ddioddef bod o dan yr un to â hi, felly er mwyn ceisio dechrau egluro, rhaid i Gwyneth gyfaddef bod ganddi gancr. Eglura ei bod yn cael ei chosbi am achosi marwolaeth Brandon. Ond does bosib mai bod yn hunanol y mae hi drwy beidio derbyn triniaeth? Byddai hynny n ffordd llwfr o ymdopi â r sefyllfa a lle fyddai hynny n gadael Gwern? Mae Ffion yn trefnu ei sgan heb yn wybod i Jinx. Ac er fod Iolo n anghytuno n chwyrn gyda r celwydd, mae ef mewn sefyllfa amhosib wrth i Ffion wneud yn glir y byddai n cael gwared â r babi petai n bradychu ei chyfrinach. One could say that Jim Probert has never been very lucky in love but he thought his luck had changed when he got to know Eileen a bit better. So far, their path to happiness hasn t been very smooth, and something or someone has always gotten in the way. But Diane offers him some very straightforward and helpful advice by saying that he should put his feelings on paper. Does Eileen have love on her mind when she makes a beeline for him in the Deri? Guilt has been consuming Gwyneth as she feels a sense of inevitable fate surrounding her. Yvonne doesn t even want to be under the same roof as her wife, so in order to try to explain Gwyneth reveals that she has ovarian cancer. She believes that she s being punished for Brandon s death - after all, what goes around, comes around. Not receiving treatment would be the easy way out but where would that leave Gwern? Ffion arranges her scan without telling Jinx. And despite being outraged at the lies, Iolo is in an impossible situation thanks to Ffion telling him that if he betrays her trust, she ll get rid of the baby. Meleri Thomas
