Spring Convention For those of you attending the spring convention at Myrtle Beach in April, here are the plans for the Saturday evening party. February Meeting AWARD S NIGHT A BIG CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL THE WINNERS AND PRESENTERS. A SPECIAL THANKS TO RICH DARLING FOR ALL HIS HARD WORK. Page 6

** Coming up ** SAVE THE DATE! TuESDAy, April 9 Spring Hike/Brewery lunch Saturday, April 20 Pink Beds Trail in Pisgah National Forest/Sierra Nevada Brewery Three and a half mile easy loop trail. We are not doing the full six mile loop so we can get to the Sierra Nevada Brewery for lunch. Meet for further car pooling in the Ingles parking lot, Landrum I-26 exit at 9am. Wear sturdy shoes or boots and bring water and a snack. Check the weather to see if you need rain gear or sun screen. After the hike we will regroup at the Sierra Nevada Brewery for lunch. If you just want to meet us for lunch I expect we will be there about 1:00. Sign up at the March or April meeting or contact me at: Mark McCall 864 580-0891 mmccall1@windstream.net Page 7

We had a great raffle in February and brought in $104 for St. Luke's. Patsy Whitney will be at our meeting to tell us about how our donations are used at the clinic. The club will present a check for $134 to her from the January and February meetings. If you would like to give a personal check to St. Luke's this would be the perfect time. (It is also tax deductable) You can give it to me and I will put it in the envelope with some other checks I have collected. Thank you all for being so generous. I hope to see you in March. Joy, Fundraising Membership News Always time to introduce friends to SSOC and earn yourself free membership. If you sponsor two new memberships during year, October 1 through September 30 of the following year, your membership fee will be refunded. Rick Page 8

Let's work on a wagon load for Safe Homes this month. As you know Safe Homes provides closets in all three of our county hospitals for rape victims. They need ladies underwear in all sizes. Comfy drawstring or lounging pants, soft shirts, and jackets. All sizes are needed and they need to be new. These are usually items the women wear home from the hospital. They also need socks and underwear for women, boys and girls. Pajamas, robes, and personal hygiene products are needed as well. Some families start over with only the clothes on their back when they enter Safe Homes. Anything you can donate is greatly appreciated. We have made a difference with our donations to this organization, and they always greet us with a smile and a hug or two. I am so proud of our club, and appreciative all of you who donate to this worthy cause. Joy, Fundraising By the way, I will collect items for the Humane Society as well. I would like to say thank you to everyone in our club who continue to be so generous. We delivered a huge donation to The Spartanburg Humane Society in February. They were in desperate need of canned dog food and we delivered over 5 cases! We had so many other items we had to use the SHS cart AND our red wagon. Judy, Jordy and Beck were happy to get in the photo of the items we donated last month. Joy Page 9

NOTES Any Spartanburg Ski Club member may submit items for publication in the newsletter. Publication deadlines can be found on the pullout calendar included in the newsletter each month. Call Taylor for information on how to submit your newsletter item. Also, don t forget - the club has a tent available for rent. It is an 18 X 20 tent, and it is easy to assemble. We also have 4 tables that can be rented with or without the tent. We have the makings for that special occasion and it is all very reasonably priced! Tent rental is $ 35. Tables can be rented for $5 per table. Remember; don t have a party without the comfort of shade. Your guests will appreciate it and so will the club! For rentals of either tent or tables contact Joy Bobo. The Spartanburg Ski & Outing Club normally meets the first Thursday of each month at 7:00 PM. We are located at the Chapman Cultural Center (West Wing) on East St. John Street in Spartanburg on the first floor. During the summer months (June, July, and August) meetings are frequently held, more informally, at different sites and times. Therefore it is necessary to consult the club web site or a current newsletter for the time and location. April s meeting is held at the Piedmont Club. The club does not provide alcoholic beverages at membership meetings, but members are allowed to bring their own (BYOB) choices of beer or wine. Over-indulgence is not condoned under any circumstances. Cups, ice, and some soft drinks are provided. Thank you.
