HOLIDAY PARTY Once again our annual Holiday Party will be at the home of Dottie Daly in Schenectady. Please save the date on your calendar, more details will follow, however, if you plan on attending, you can email back and we will add you to the list, albanyasga2002@gmail.com. Here are the details as of today: Date: Saturday 12/17 Time: 6:00PM Place: Dottie Daly's home (address and directions will be sent later) Cost: $10.00 for members, $15.00 for non-members Bring your own beverages, water, coffee and tea will be available. If you wish to bring either an appetizer or a dessert, please let us know what you are bringing when you RSVP so we can make sure we have enough of each. We will also have a Yankee Swap and if you wish to participate, bring a wrapped unisex gift valued around $25.00. For those of you not familiar with a Yankee Swap: Each player picks from a hat a number from one up to the total number of participants. Each person gets a crack at picking a gift according to his or her number. The person who picks the first gift opens it to show it to the rest of the company. Then the number two participant picks a gift and chooses to either unwrap it or swap it for an unwrapped gift. If the gift is swapped, the person who had their gift taken from them gets to choose a new gift (or steal from someone else-limit 2 steals) gift. The game goes on until everyone has had their chance and then, typically number one has the choice to either keep their gift or swap it with anyone else's gift.

Pizza and Wings Our first Pizza and Wing night at DeMarco's Restaurant in Colonie was attended by twelve people. We had two of our newest members come all the way from Greenwich and Saratoga. We may try and do this every month or every other month. Informal Golf During the past month Sandy and her committee were able to organize some informal outings at Blackhead Mountain, Orchard Creek and Leatherstocking in Cooperstown. Those who attended had a great time! Here's the Leatherstocking group Other Golf Ellen Riley and Judy Price were part of a fund raising tournament for The Children's Museum in late October. They had about 6 birdies, and as a result pulled out the birdie bottle and celebrated! Joining them was Brandon True. And Ray Frederick almost got 5 eagles with one swing, really. On the 16th hole at Saratoga National Ray hit his yellow ball in the fairway, and an eagle tried to pick it up but kept dropping it. He (or she) tried 5 times without success. Therefore Ray almost had 5 eagles!!! Photo is courtesy of Ed Barnard.

TM The most important shot in golf is the next one. - - Ben Hogan American Singles Golf Association November, 2016 Current and Past Issues at SinglesGolf.com/TheNextShot TM New Leaders to Be Elected in Each Chapter It s an annual thing. Each chapter, whether you know it or not, is led by people, a/k/a volunteers, who take their time and make life nice for you. Each chapter is required to, per your bylaws (www.singlesgolf.com/bylaws), elect a new chapter president each year and committee chair positions (golf, social, membership and communications). Other positions are appointed, e.g. secretary and treasurer. After everything s in place, your chapter should look like this organizational chart : www.singlesgolf.com/organizationalchart. These people comprise your Board of Directors who is ultimately responsible for making sure things run right to assure more fun, fellowship and fairways. Many chapters have already elected their chapter president in October; November is reserved for electing the committee chairs. All newly elected persons begin their term of service on January 1 of each year. If you re interested in serving on the Board of your chapter, please don t hesitate to speak up and become part of the decision-making process. As always, your service to your chapter is much appreciated. Terms are for one year only but it can be a life changing event in your life. Become a leader or support your newly elected chapter leaders. A job description for each position can be located at the following links: www.singlesgolf.com/president www.singlesgolf.com/golf www.singlesgolf.com/membership www.singlesgolf.com/social www.singlesgolf.com/communication It s been said many times that the Number One job of a chapter president is to delegate to each of the four committee chairs. If a president does it all, next year, then there s a good chance no one will want to serve in that position the following year. Stay in Shape this Winter Yes, weather is cooling and some chapters are closingdown their golf play until Spring. You want to stay in shape during the winter and be ready to hit the fairways running at the first sight of Spring. Forbes magazine put together a list of things golfers can do to stay in shape during the winter. Our link to that article is here: www.singlesgolf.com/winter Keep Things Social this Winter Don t let your chapter go into hibernation this winter. This is where the social committee can begin providing a variety of winter-time events to keep the troops happy. Go bowling, go to the opera, have Christmas and New Years parties. Plan now! New Year s Event Jan. 1-4 Play TPC Sawgrass! SinglesGolf.com/NewYears 7-Days in Hawaii Feb. 18-25 (Ritz-Carlton Kapalua and Kapalua Golf Courses, a PGA Tour Stop) The Sunshine Fling April 20-23 Orlando ASGA s Annual Event SinglesGolf.com/SunshineFling Canada in July 2017 Tremblant! (A Cool Place to Be in the Dead of Summer!) The New Year Celebration at TPC Sawgrass Ponte Vedra Beach Florida January 1-4, 2017 Event details at www.singlesgolf.com/newyears No doubt, we love to go to nice places and meet nice people. In continuation of our attempt to have every member check things off their bucket list, we re offering a great experience at one of America s most famous sacred ground courses, the Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass, site of the annual Player s Championship. Yes, it s expensive but it s also an optional round for the die-hards who just have to do it. How else are memories made? January 1 is a Sunday. This is our arrival day. Yes, we missed the official countdown (remember, it goes 10, 9, 8, 7...), but what we are gaining are a) lower hotel rates, b) lower airline rates flying south, c) better golf rates and d) no white-knuckle experience driving on I-95. Everyone else is headed north, we re headed south and beating the convention business which starts the following week. We have much better rates this way. We ll be playing the Pete Dye Valley course at TPC Sawgrass and the Slammer & Squire at World Golf Village, not far from Sawgrass. Tickets to the World Golf Hall of Fame are included. On January 4, our departure day, you can opt to play the Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass. You know, the one with the famous No. 17 island green (see above photo taken by our staff pigeon). Will you play that hole from the regular tee box or the drop zone? Hit that green on your first shot and you ll receive your annual $79 ASGA dues on the house! J get that? Free dues if you hit the green! Details at the website shown above. In addition, we ll be staying at the Marriott at PGA head-

... Continued from other side American Singles Golf Association November, 2016 SinglesGolf.com/TheNextShot quarters, taking a tour of the PGA clubhouse and for those who will not play the Stadium Course, you ll have an opportunity to take a free tour of the famous holes sponsored by a local charity that raises money to support local charities. Small donation is a probability. Stay tuned and talk this one up with your other single friends. Also, see attached registration form following this newsletter. ASGA in Hawaii Ritz-Carlton Kapalua / Kapalua Golf Courses Bay and Plantation February 18-25, 2017 Imagine being in Hawaii in the dead of winter. Your friends are on the mainland freezing their tails off. You, in your 80-degree weather and summer shorts, are enjoying some of the best views imaginable. Hit a bad shot, no problem, just look towards the ocean and see whales auditioning for Pacific Life commercials. And then, there s the hotel, the Ritz-Carlton Kapalua. You can t beat the Ritz. They love us so much they re pitching-in their $48 breakfast each morning! We ll play the Bay and Plantation Courses, the latter being the site of the PGA tour s Tournament of Champions in January, 2017. In addition, we ll play Ka anapali, one of the island s most popular courses, not far from the Ritz-Carlton Kapalua. Website and details up by mid-november, but in the meantime, check out this hotel. It s truly one of the nicest in Hawaii: TinyURL.com/RitzKapalua Tremblant Mont-Tremblant, Quebec, Canada Tentative Dates July 16, 17, 18, 19, 2017 I believe it s been a good 18+ years since we last visited Tremblant, a beautiful resort about 90 minutes outside of Montreal. We had a small group of about 24 people. We were such a young organization then and only 24 attended. They have two hilly courses: The Giant and The Devil. And the town itself offers so much. Tremblant.ca is the virtual website but we re looking to do a non-virtual visit next year and they promise much cooler weather than we had this summer. River Cruise / Ryder Cup 2018 Paris, France September/October, 2018 We ve already made some inroads with Le Golf National, site of the 2018 Ryder Cup competition. They welcome members of ASGA to play the Ryder Cup course immediately after the close of the 2018 Ryder Cup. Dates for the 2018 Ryder Cup are September 28-30. This event is two years out and will be the first river cruise ever offered by ASGA. Our hopes are to buy-out the ship by filling-up 49 cabins, which will take no more than 98 members to do so, a lesser amount if some room by themselves. By buying-out the ship, we ll have more latitude on certain things and can certainly party ASGA-style without having people look at us wishing they were single! (LOL) Although we re not officially announcing it yet, the pieces are being assembled and we want to put together another awesome experience for you. We anticipate visiting Versailles, historic monuments in Rouen, the English Channel villages of Etretat and Honfleur, Jumieges Abbey, one of the great Benedictines of France, Chateau Gaillard, Claude Monet s home and a lot more. At our halfway point on the cruise on the Seine River, we ll visit the D-Day beaches including Omaha and Normandy. A once in a lifetime opportunity, by definition, only occurs one time so this may just be it for you! So, talk it up. Think about whom you d like to room with to cut some cost. It will be a few months before the full website, details, etc. are posted so in the meantime, keep your eye on the ball and the event websites. River Cruise Proposed Itinerary: Ultimately... Singles Golf is about... I understand we re about playing more golf, meeting new friends and basically having a life. Take ASGA out of your life and think if that s where you d like to be again. We re a great organization allowing people to have a social life, getting outside and enjoying a great game we all love and doing some travel we might never have done on our own. But most importantly, we re about making relationships happen. With that said, realize the importance of keeping things going. Please don t assume that things just happen on their own. It is incumbent upon each member to step-up to the plate every now and then. Consider your role in your chapter and a chance to make things better! - - Tom Alsop, President and Founder American Singles Golf Association ASGA National Website SinglesGolf.com Upcoming Multi-Chapter Events SinglesGolf.com/events To join or renew dues in ASGA SinglesGolf.com/join List of Chapters/See Newsletters SinglesGolf.com/chapters Request Brochures & Stand SinglesGolf.com/ContactUs Request Set of Lost Club Labels Singles Golf.com/ContactUs Previous National Newsletters SinglesGolf.com/TheNextShot Email the National Office info@singlesgolf.com
