Men s Soccer 5-6 Recaps Men s Soccer Region XII Quarter- at Cincinnati State Technical & CC October 8, 5 @ :3 pm - 3:3 pm Cincinnati State Tech & CC The Jayhawks finish their season with a - loss in the quarterfinals of the Region XII tournament. Men s Soccer at Owens CC October 4, 5 @ 3: pm - 5: pm Owens CC Muskegon Community College wrapped up their regular season today with a hard fought loss in Toledo, OH by a score of - to Owens Community College. In what was a very physical and emotionally charged game, the Jayhawks got couldn t muster up enough offense to stay with the Express. Goalkeeper Ben Fales (Algoma Christian HS) led the Jayhawks with 7 saves on 9 shots. With the loss today the Jayhawks finished -9 overall and 3-5 in the conference. The team travels to Cincinnati, OH on Wednesday, /8 to take on the Surge from Cincinnati State in a Regional Quarterfinal game. Game time is yet to be determined. Men s Soccer at ANCILLA COLLEGE October, 5 @ 4: pm - 6: pm Ancilla College Muskegon Community College traveled to Donaldson, IN to play the #4 ranked Ancilla Chargers and lost a hard fought game by a - score. The Chargers scored two goals early in the first half to take a two goal lead. MCC struck back when freshman Danny Mazariegos (Godwin

Heights HS) capitalized on a foul in the Chargers goal box to get the Jayhawks within a goal. The second half was a very intense, defensive battle. Freshman keeper Ben Fales (Algoma Christian HS) made saves in the contest to lead the Jayhawks. The Jayhawks will travel to Owens Community College on Saturday, /4. Game time at Owens is 3: pm. Men s Soccer at Cuyahoga CC October 8, 5 @ : pm - 3: pm Cuyahoga CC The Jayhawks were victorious today as they topped Cuyahoga CC 6- in Parma, Ohio. Scoring goals for the Jayhawks were freshman forward Miguel Flores (Muskegon HS) with two goals, freshman Danny Mazariegos (Godwin Heights HS) with one, freshman Jake Rajewski (Midland HS) with a goal, sophomore Edgar Alvarez (Holland HS) with a goal and freshman Kyle Winger (Fruitport HS) with his first of the year. Freshman Ben Fales (Algoma Christian HS) earned the shutout in net with 8 saves. Today s man of the match though, goes to Jesus Corona (Holland HS) as he had three more assists today and six total for the weekend. Corona has now set the single season assist record and also holds the all-time assist record for Muskegon Community College. MCC will travel to Ancilla College to take on the Chargers on Wednesday, /. Men s Soccer at Lakeland CC October 7, 5 @ : pm - 3: pm 6 Lakeland CC Neither rain, nor snow nor the Lakers from Lakeland CC could stop Muskegon Community College as they rolled by a score of 9-. The Jayhawks came out firing as they scored just a :3 into the game. Leading the scoring with goals each were freshman Danny Mazariegos (Godwin Heights HS), freshman Jake Rajewski (Midland HS) and Jared Jaekel (Whitehall HS). Edgar Alvarez (Holland HS), Chaise Schuiteman (Western Michigan Christian HS) and Miguel Flores (Muskegon HS) each added goals for MCC. Getting assists for the Jayhawks were sophomore Jesus Corona (Holland HS) with 3. Brandon Edwards (Orchard View HS), Mazariegos, Freddy Lopez (Godwin Heights HS), Ben Fales (Algoma Christina HS) and Hector Chavez (Grand Haven HS) each added an assist. Freshman keepers Hayden Collins (Whitehall HS) and Fales split time in net and combined for 6 saves to earn the shutout. Tomorrow the Jayhawks will take on Cuyahoga CC at : pm in Parma, Ohio. 9

Men s Soccer home vs. LAKE MICHIGAN COLLEGE October 4, 5 @ 4: pm - 6: pm Lake Michigan College Muskegon Community College stopped their losing streak by getting back to Jayhawk soccer with a 6- victory over Lake Michigan College. The Jayhawks took control from the opening whistle as they dominated with possession soccer and capitalized on opportunities in front of the net. MCC was led by sophomore Hector Chavez (Grand Haven HS) who opened the scoring with a great header goal and then added two assists for the game. Sophomore Chaise Schuiteman (Western Michigan Christian HS) got the second goal of the game off a feed from sophomore Edgar Alvarez (Holland HS) to put the Jayhawks up -. With just seconds left in the half, Alvarez got his second assist of the game when he sent a corner kick ball into the box which found a diving Jake Rajewski (Midland HS) for the third goal. The Jayhawks kept the foot on the gas in the second half as Chavez and sophomore Brandon Edwards (Orchard View HS) hooked up for a slick pass that found sophomore Jesus Corona (Holland HS). Corona took two touches and ripped a left footed shot into the upper right corner. Three minutes later sophomore defenseman Cody Loss (Reeths-Puffer HS) won a 5/5 ball just before his half field, dribbled by 6 defenders and beat the goalie with a great shot. The Jayhawks continued to hustle as Miguel Flores (Muskegon HS) capped of a total team effort with a follow up goal off his own shot to finish the scoring at 6. Freshman keeper Hayden Collins (Whitehall HS) earned his 3rd shutout of the season making 3 saves on 3 attempts. With the win today the Jayhawks improve to 8-7 overall and move back into the 5th seed in the regional standings. Men s Soccer at SCHOOLCRAFT COLLEGE October, 5 @ 3: pm - 5: pm 6 Schoolcraft College Muskegon Community College fell short today against #4 Schoolcraft College by a score of 4-. Scoring for the Jayhawks were freshman Jake Rajewski (Midland HS) and sophomore Chaise Schuiteman (Western Michigan Christian HS). Jesus Corona (Holland HS) assisted on the Rajewski goal. Freshman Hayden Collins (Whitehall HS) made 9 saves on 3 shots. MCC is holding on to the 6th spot in the region with key games coming up this week. They look to snap a 5 game losing streak this Wednesday as they host Lake Michigan College at 4: pm at Mona Shores High School. 4

Men s Soccer at Cincinnati State Tech & CC October, 5 @ 3: pm - 5: pm Cincinnati State Tech & CC The Jayhawks lost 8- today to the Surge of Cincinnati State Tech & CC. Tomorrow the Jayhawks take on Schoolcraft College at 3: pm. Men s Soccer home vs. JACKSON COLLEGE October 7, 5 @ 4: pm - 6: pm 8 Jackson College Today at Mona Shores High School the Jets from Jackson College earned a - victory over Muskegon Community College. The Jets scored the only goal of the game just thirty seconds before halftime and that s all they needed as the Jayhawks couldn t find the back of the net. Freshman goalie Hayden Collins (Whitehall HS) made key saves to help out his defense and keep the Jayhawks in it, but it wasn t enough. Collins finished the game making 5 saves on 6 shots. The Jayhawks now take to the road to meet up with Cincinnati St. on Saturday and then Schoolcraft Community College on Sunday. They Jayhawks still hold the 5th spot in the region. Men s Soccer home vs. Owens CC October 3, 5 @ 3: pm - 5: pm Owens CC Today the Jayhawks were roughed up against Owens Community College, dropping the contest 5-. An early penalty kick call put MCC on their heels for the remainder of the contest. Freshman goalie Ben Fales (Algoma Christian HS) took the loss for the Jayhawks. The next game is Wednesday, /7 when Muskegon Community College will host the Jackson College Jets at 4: pm at Mona Shores High School. 5

Men s Soccer home vs. SCHOOLCRAFT COLLEGE September 7, 5 @ 3: pm - 5: pm Schoolcraft College Muskegon Community College fell short today against #4 ranked Schoolcraft College by a score of 3-. Scoring for the Jayhawks were freshman Jake Rajewski (Midland HS) and freshman Miguel Flores (Muskegon HS). Assisting on the goals were sophomore Charlie Wick (Holland HS) with assists and Danny Mazariegos (Godwin Heights HS) with one. Freshman goalie Hayden Collins (Whitehall HS) made 3 saves on 6 shots for the Jayhawks. MCC will host Owens CC on Saturday, /3 at 3: pm at Mona Shores High School. Cincinnati got on the board quick as they scored just thirty seconds into the game. From that point on the Jayhawks took control of the game. Freshman Miguel Flores (Muskegon HS) set up sophomore Jesus Corona (Holland HS) for the Jayhawks first goal of the game. With 5 minutes left sophomore Edgar Alvarez (Holland HS) set up Flores with the game winner. The Jayhawks played tough team defense led by freshman goalie Ben Fales (Algoma Christian) in net. Fales finished the game with 9 saves on shots and earned his third win of the season. Tomorrow the Jayhawks are back in action as they host #4 Schoolcraft Community College at 3: pm at Mona Shores High School. Men s Soccer home vs. ANCILLA COLLEGE September 3, 5 @ 4: pm - 6: pm Ancilla College 3

The Jayhawks dropped a heartbreaker 3- in overtime to conference foe Ancilla on Sept. 3 at Mona Shores High School. MCC fell behind - midway through the first half before getting the equalizer four minutes before halftime. Sophomore Edgar Alvarez (Holland HS) found a streaking Miguel Flores (Muskegon HS), who chipped the goalie to even the match. The Jayhawks took the lead in the 73rd minute of the second half, as Jake Rajewski (Midland HS) buried a header off a great corner from Jesus Corona (Holland HS). The Jayhawks couldn t hold on to the lead though. Ancilla scored five minutes before the end of regulation. In overtime, Ancilla won when it converted on a questionable penalty kick call. Hayden Collins (Whitehall HS) made five saves on seven shots for the Jayhawks, who look to rebound this Saturday when they host #6 Cincinnati St. at 3 p.m. Men s Soccer home vs. Andrews University September 8, 5 @ 4: pm - 6: pm Andrews University The Muskegon Community College men s soccer team set their sites on accomplishing two achievements never done in Jayhawk soccer history; getting 5 consecutive shutouts and beating a varsity 4-year school. On Friday they earned both with a 8- victory over Andrews University. Leading the way for the Jayhawks was freshman Miguel Flores (Muskegon HS) as he tallied his first career hat trick as a Jayhawk with all 3 goals coming in the second half. Jesus Corona (Holland HS) got MCC on the board early as he scored just 65 seconds into the game off an assist from Flores and sophomore Edgar Alvarez (Holland HS). Freshman Danny Mazariegos (Godwin Heights HS) netted the second goal of the game off a pass from defender Cody Loss (Reeths-Puffer HS). Mazariegos didn t stop there, as he made a great hustle play to setup freshman Fredy Lopez (Godwin Heights HS) for his first of two goals in the game. Alvarez then scored one of his own off a Jake Rajewski (Midland HS) assist just two minute into the second half to put the Jayhawks up 4-. Flores got the next three goals with assist going to freshman Matt Kowalski (North Muskegon HS), Corona and Alvarez. Lopez then closed the scoring off a great feed from sophomore Hector Chavez (Grand Haven HS). Freshman goalie Ben Fales (Algoma Christian HS) made 3 saves in the game and secured the 5th consecutive shutout. The Jayhawks improved to 6- on the season and now look to three big games next week with Ancilla CC, Cincinnati CC and Schoolcraft CC all coming into town. Men s Soccer at LAKE MICHIGAN COLLEGE September 6, 5 @ 4: pm - 6: pm 8

Lake Michigan College Muskegon Community College earned their 5th straight victory tonight behind a great defensive effort from the whole team. The team traveled to Benton Harbor and beat Lake Michigan College - on a Jesus Corona (Holland HS) goal set up by midfielder Brandon Edwards (Orchard View HS) in the 78th minute of the contest. The defense was led by sophomore Cody Loss (Reeths-Puffer HS) and freshman Matt Kowalski (North Muskegon HS). Alex Rop (Western Michigan Christian HS), Jared Jaekel (Whitehall HS), Eric Bourdo (Western Michigan Christian HS) and Kyle Wansten (Reeths-Puffer HS) also were very strong for the Jayhawks. Freshman goalie Hayden Collins (Whitehall HS) made 6 saves in the game to earn his second shutout and 4th win of the season. The Jayhawks improve to 5- on the season and - in the conference. With the win today the Jayhawks took back the lead in both conference and regional standings. The team will be back in action on Friday, 9/8 when they host Andrews University at Mona Shores High School. Men s Soccer home vs. Cornerstone University Reserves September, 5 @ 5: pm - 7: pm Muskegon Community College Cornerstone University Reserves Muskegon Community College kept to their winning ways tonight with a 4- victory over the Golden Eagles of Cornerstone University. Freshman Eric Bourdo (Western Michigan Christian HS) got the Jayhawks on the board first with a one touch volley goal from a great hustle play from sophomore Jesus Corona (Holland HS). The Jayhawks took a - lead into halftime and then exploded for 3 more goals in the second half. Putting MCC up - was freshman Miguel Flores (Muskegon HS) with a great finish on a penalty kick won by sophomore Alex Rop (Western Michigan Christian HS). One minute later Flores found sophomore Chaise Schuiteman (Western Michigan Christian HS) on the run and he beat the keeper in the far net. Flores finished the scoring for the Jayhawks with another assist to Corona. Freshman keeper Ben Fales (Algoma Christian HS) played strong in net and earned his first college career win and shutout making 5 saves on 5 shots. The Jayhawks next game is Wednesday, September 6 when they travel to Benton Harbor to take on conference foe Lake Michigan College. Game time is at 4: pm. Men s Soccer at JACKSON COLLEGE September 9, 5 @ 4: pm - 6: pm 4

Jackson CC Muskegon Community College got their first road win of the season with a 3- victory over Jackson Community College. Scoring for the Jayhawks were freshman Fredy Lopez (Godwin Heights), freshman Danny Mazariegos (Godwin Heights) and sophomore Emmitt Mikkelson (Whitehall HS). Picking up the assists were sophomore Chase Schuiteman (Western Michigan Christian HS), freshman Jake Rajewski (Midland HS) and sophomore Hector Chavez (Grand Haven HS). Freshman Hayden Collings (Whitehall HS) notched his first complete game shutout in net for the Jayhawks with saves in the match. The Jayhawks improved to 3- on the season and - in the conference. Next on the schedule is a home game on Friday, 9/ vs. Cornerstone. Men s Soccer home vs. Lakeland CC August 3, 5 @ : pm - 3: pm 3 Lakeland CC Muskegon Community College scored early and often on the way to a 6- win in a game that was dominated by the blue and gold from start to finish. Sophomore midfielder Emmitt Mikkelson (Whitehall HS) got the Jayhawks on the board first with a great goal set up by sophomore midfielder Brandon Edwards (Orchard View HS). Two minutes later MCC struck again as sophomore Jared Jaekel (Whitehall HS) found Edgar Alvarez (Holland HS) who made a nifty cut back move and beat the Lakers goalie. Sophomore Hector Chavez (Grand Haven HS) tallied his first goal of the season off a great one-two combo with freshman Jake Rajewski (Midland HS) and freshman Miguel Flores (Muskegon HS) to put the Jayhawks up 3-. One minute before the half sophomore defenseman Cody Loss (Reeths-Puffer HS) netted his first goal of the season off an assist from sophomore Adrian Briseno (Muskegon HS) and Rajewski. The Jayhawks added two more goals in the second half as Edwards scored his second of the season on a penalty kick in the 54th minute. Alvarez capped of a dominating performance by the Jayhawks with his second of the game off a great pass from the big sophomore defenseman Alex Rop (Western Michigan Christian HS). Freshman goalies Hayden Collins (Whitehall HS) and Ben Fales (Algoma Christian HS) combined for the 4 save shutout as the Jayhawks improve their record to - for the season. Cuyahoga CC Hard work pays of for Jayhawks today in Region action with - victory! Today Muskegon Community College out worked Cuyahoga Community College and won a hard fought victory - at Mona Shores High School. The Jayhawks had a ton of chances during the first half of play but could not capitalize on them. Freshman Hayden Collins (Whitehall HS) made a diving save just before the half to keep it - at the break. In the second half the Jayhawks got on the board first as a great combination play from Hector Chavez (Grand Haven HS) and Jake Rajewski (Midland HS) set up a streaking Brandon Edwards (Orchard View HS) who buried it in the back of the net. Six minutes later Cuyahoga answered with a goal of their own off a misplayed ball from a goalie punt. With 7 minutes remaining the Jayhawks took the lead for good when Hector Chavez (Grand Haven HS) chipped the last defender and found Miguel Flores for his first of the season and the game winner. Hayden Collins finished with 3 saves on 4 shots and earned his first win of the season. Tomorrow the Jayhawks are back in action when they host Lakeland Community College at : pm. Men s Soccer home vs. Davenport JV August 4, 5 @ 3:3 pm - 6:3 pm Davenport JV A second half rally was not enough as Muskegon Community College dropped their opener 4 to at home tonight. Two early goals by Davenport put the Jayhawks down early and they could not overcome the deficit. The score remained - at the half. The Panthers continued the scoring in the second half to go up 4-. The Jayhawks rallied midway in the second half getting a pair of goals from freshmen Jake Rajewski (Midland High School) to cut the lead in half but could not finish on several chances after that. Getting the assists on the Rajewski goals were freshman Danny Mazariegos (Godwin Heights High School) and freshman Marvin Morales (Godwin Heights High School). Freshman goalie Hayden Collins (Whitehall High School) made 4 saves on 8 shots. The Jayhawks open region play this Saturday at :pm at Mona Shores High School when they take on Cuyahoga Community College. 4
