On jumping away Miss Sazoo shifted out and hampered Aeromax, which had to be restrained by its rider. Rounding the home turn and in the straight, Bedouin Prince laid out. Approaching the 350 metres All Day Baby had to be eased off the heels of Gloop and change course when that gelding shifted out under pressure. Dwayne Dunn rider of All Day Baby which performed below expectations, could offer no explanation. A post race veterinary examination of All Day Baby revealed no abnormalities. M. Zahra rider of Accidental Migrant when questioned in relation to getting so far back out of his ground in the early and middle stages stated that it was always his intention to restrain his mount from the wide barrier and that in the gelding s trials has not shown any early speed and after restraining his mount the gelding then failed to stay in touch with the field in the middle stages of the event when placed under pressure by its rider. Stewards noted his comments. Race 2 SCHWEPPES 3YO F MAIDEN PLATE - 1100 metres: Cuban Gold was slow to begin and failed to muster speed in the early stages. Hopetoun Street threw its head in the air shortly after the start.
Approaching the 600 metres You Never Know, when over-racing, had to be eased to avoid the heels of Brienz Bella. Spiritina laid in under pressure in the straight. A post race veterinary examination of Hidden Forever revealed no abnormalities. Race 3 CARLTON DRAUGHT 150 YEARS 3YO MAIDEN PLATE - 1400 metres: In The Cash began awkwardly unbalancing its rider. Shortly after the start Glen Lossie Lad had to be checked when tightened for room and as a result lost ground. Stars At Night raced wide in the early and middle stages. Approaching the 800 metres when the pace steadied Winter Palace and Two Shillings had to be severely checked to avoid heels. At that stage of the event Devil s Tale and Blessings also had to be checked by their riders. In The Cash raced wide from the 800 metres. Passing the 400 metres Blessings after being held up, shifted ground outwards to improve its position carrying Tre Dieci out on to the heels of Stars At Night. H. Coffey rider of Blessings was advised to exercise far greater care in similar circumstances. Shortly after straightening Samerannie which had been held up for clear running, shifted out and bumped Northern Saint, taking that filly wider resulting in Devil s Tale having to be eased off Northern Saint s heels and in turn shifted out resulting in Retold being carried out and bumping with Blessings. M. Zahra rider of Samerannie was reprimanded and advised to exercise far greater care in similar circumstances. Shortly after this incident Worthy Honour shifted out abruptly resulting in Devil s Tale again having to be eased. C. Symons rider of Northern Saint was severely reprimanded for using his whip on seven occasions in a forehand manner prior to the 100 metres. G. Boss rider of Winter Palace which performed below market expectations, when questioned in relation to the disappointing performance, stated that the gelding had to be severely checked near the 800 metres when the pace steadied and then was obliged to race wide from that point, and under all the circumstances was satisfied with the geldings performance. A post race veterinary examination of Winter Palace revealed no abnormalities. Race 4 BRAIDIES TAVERN MAIDEN PLATE - 1400 metres: Johnny The Cashman which was reluctant to proceed to the barriers and made contact with the inside running rail, was examined on arrival at the barriers and passed fit to run. Mr. L. Robertson trainer of Johnny The Cashman was advised a warning was placed on the gelding due to its pre-race manners. Benhassi which had reared and was fractious in the barriers was examined by the Club s Veterinary Surgeon and deemed unfit to start. Acting on this Stewards ordered the withdrawal of Benhassi at 1.16 p.m. All monies bet for a win and/or place and concession betting on the late scratching to be refunded. All successful bets on horses prior to time of withdrawal are subject to the following deductions in the dollar from the face value of the ticket:

Mr. L. Corsten was notified Benhassi must trial to Stewards satisfaction at which time he gains approval to race prior to accepting for its next race start.. As a result of these incidents the start of this race was delayed approximately six minutes. On jumping away Berry Sweet shifted in taking The Baby Sitter in bumping heavily with Demon Dan, taking that gelding in on to Masked Invader then in on to Annesbrook, resulting in all horses being hampered. Primaluna and Call Me Neil were slow to begin. Approaching the 1000 metres Simpsons Track when over-racing, shifted out and away from the heels of Zachord. He s Dirt Cheap over-raced in the middle stages of the event. Masked Invader and Super Daph both raced wide throughout the event. B. Rawiller rider of Demon Dan stated his mount failed to stretch out throughout the race. A post race veterinary examination of the gelding detected cardiac arrhythmia. Trainer N. Blackiston was notified Demon Dan shall not start in any race until the Stewards have received a satisfactory veterinary report. The report must include the results of an ECG performed at rest and cardiac auscultation performed within 30 minutes of completing a satisfactory gallop of at least 1000 metres. C. Symons rider of Berry Sweet which performed below market expectations stated the mare raced flat. A post race veterinary examination of Berry Sweet revealed a poor recovery. Race 5 THE REZZIE AND METRO PUGGS 0-64 HANDICAP - 1300 metres: Statutorial which refused to proceed to the barriers was a late scratching by order of Stewards at 1.45 p.m. All monies bet for a win and/or place and concession betting on the late scratching to be refunded. Trainer S. Fliedner was advised that Statutorial must trial to the satisfaction of Stewards at which time he gains approval to race prior to accepting for its next race start. Alternative Choice and Hussavi were both slow to begin. Shortly after the start Hussavi shifted in and bumped Evenaz unbalancing both horses. Galway Warrior raced wide without cover for the majority of the event. Passing the 800 metres Evenaz, which had been over-racing, had to be eased to avoid the heels of Calibrate, which shifted in. Viscera was held up rounding the home turn and again from passing the 200 metres and went to the line without being fully tested. Calibrate was held up for the majority of the home straight and went to the line without being fully tested. Over the final 100 metres Harpsund when racing in restricted room was held up and went to the line without being fully tested. Michelle Payne rider of Antitita when questioned in relation to racing in a more forward position today stated that after beginning well rather than restrain her mount she elected to settle close to the lead. A post race veterinary examination of Calibrate revealed no abnormalities. Race 6 THE NATIONAL ARMS 0-64 HANDICAP - 1300 metres: The connections of No Prior Knowledge advised it was their intention to have the mare ridden further back today as per its last start, with the blinkers off in an endeavour to get the mare to settle. No Prior Knowledge after beginning well J. McNeil attempted to ease, however the mare commenced to over-race therefore J. McNeil let his mount stride forward. Amaretto which had been fractious in the barriers lunged forward making heavy contact with the front barrier gate. Amaretto was removed from its barrier, examined by the Club s Veterinary Surgeon and deemed unfit to start. Acting on this, Stewards ordered the withdrawal of Amaretto at 2.26 p.m. All monies bet for a win and/or place and concession betting on the late scratching to be refunded. Shortly after the start Spun Dry shifted in abruptly and bumped Tyanna. As a result Tyanna shifted in on to Innovate which in turn tightened the running of I m An Outoftowner between that gelding and Pretty Kool Kat.
Bashan and No Prior Knowledge both raced wide without cover for the majority of the event. Innovate contacted the running rail near the 500 metres. S. Vella rider of Zupasonic was fined $200 for using his whip on ten occasions in a forehand manner prior to the 100 metres, three of which were consecutive. Stewards took into account S. Vella had not been spoken to for twelve months however were mindful that the whip had been used on 10 occasions. Race 7 BENDIGO RSL SHOWCASE BM70 HANDICAP - 1100 metres: Written Intent bounded away and lost ground. Electric Shot over-raced in the early and middle stages. Rounding the home turn until passing the 200 metres Domesday Warrior was held up for clear running. Pretty Possum laid out in the home straight. A post race veterinary examination of Bachelor Knight revealed no abnormalities. Race 8 RISING SUN HOTEL 0-64 HANDICAP - 2400 metres: D. Larsson rider of Jeune Baby Jeune which missed the start approximately five lengths, stated that the gelding anticipated the start and contacted the front of the gates and as a result panicked and slipped behind resulting in Jeune Baby Jeune missing the start. Trainer B. Crofts was advised a warning would be placed on the gelding due to being slow to begin. Shadow Dance raced three wide for the majority of the event. Passing the 600 metres Honour Rakti commenced to weaken, shifted in and brushed the running rail. B. Rawiller rider of Tiger Tuff stated that in his opinion the gelding would be better suited on a track with more give. Race 9 - THE UNIVERSAL ON McCRAE SHOWCASE 0-64 HANDICAP 1600 metres: Near the 1000 metres when the pace steadied Anvil Green began to over-race and shifted ground in abruptly resulting in Arrikool having to be steadied by its rider. On The Beaches which was following then began to over-race and had to be checked by its rider to avoid the heels of Arrikool before shifting ground outwards and checking Cool Attraction, which in turn made contact with Seul Spirit. Passing the 600 metres Cool Attraction shifted slightly off the heels of Contact, resulting in Dazed Ale having to be checked off that mare s heels and taking Artie s Gold wider on the track. L. Nolen rider of Dazed Ale which performed below market expectations stated that in his opinion it was not suited to racing tight between runners and did not appreciate the slow mid-race tempo. A post race veterinary examination of the gelding detected cardiac arrhythmia. Trainer C Widdison was notified Dazed Ale shall not start in any race until the Stewards have received a satisfactory veterinary report. The report must include the results of an ECG performed at rest and cardiac auscultation performed within 30 minutes of completing a satisfactory gallop of at least 1000 metres.
